GLOW rocks! I devoured this season over the course of 2 days. It's refreshingly original and well written. The sets and costumes are fantastic and completely transport you to the 80s. As a gay man I love this show. Its so incredibly interesting and the acting is amazing and the plot has many turns and you never know what to expect. The characters develop just fine and you learn to grow fond of them. What this if you even remotely like fabulous things!

Exactly as advertised. I love these girls. And guys. Just a great group of people and so funny. If you aren't laughing, you just don't get it. Anyone who says the "story doesn't go anywhere" its the first season of a show about making a tv show and they make the tv show...what more do you want?

O.K., let's be honest. I love the cast and the characters but this story isn't really consistent and it never leads anywhere. Alison Brie is brilliant though.

This show really lived up to expectations. The characters are well written and interesting. It's difficult to balance a large cast like this but each person stood out while highlighting a number of larger issues which were prevalent at the time and which are still a big issue today, namely race relations and women in the workplace.

At the end of the day though it's just a really fun show with a great sense of humor. The episodes are quite short (around 30 minutes) so don't be surprised if you binge your way through it. Definitely give it a chance, I loved it :D.

Loved this show, a good mix of humor and drama. And does a great job grabbing what pro wrestling is. From the goofyness to the seriousness. Finished the whole series in a day.

I want to like this show more but it is so corny and most of the people who aren't Marc Maron and Alison Brie are terrible actors. There is some serious eye rolling scenes that Saved By the Bell wouldn't have done. The pilot was great but then the first half of the season is so boring. Despite a boring first half of the season and a wildly scattershot plot overall, GLOW manages to find its footing in the second half of the season, focusing more on the wrestling as well as escalating the character conflicts.

Marc Maron had me sold as the director. If I could make one recommendation to the viewer...there is a one hour documentary on Netflix about the original 1980s GLOW wrestlers...it made the experience all that much better for me. It gave me the opportunity to see the integrity they served with the source material. I am sure the original GLOW wrestlers gave this show their seal of approval. Expand

I get the feeling that after eight years of Weeds and the five years of OITNB, Jenji Kohan is comfortable ising Season one as setup to milk this show for a very long run. The first half of the season is slow,. By the end you will be itching for season two to start tomorrow. I hope that she is not becoming too formulaic, relying on single character backstory to undergird the main wrestling plot in every episode, the way she does with Orange. Clever once. Cliche twice.

This show is purely character driven so far.
I really liked it, but I hope there will be more Side-Plots and a better Story in general.
It has potential to be a really great show, the first season was a good start, and Allison Brie is just awesome.
I hope Netflix will pick up a second season.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pink Neon is the New Black. Show is unbearable. Saw the great reviews and suggested SO and I watch it. SO enjoys it, I find it utterly disappointing. Looking over the reviews, I see a theme of yay! girlpower!. SO is not exactly pro feminism, so I imagine he is just enjoying it for the bewbs. Usually I like Alison Brie, she was great in community, but here she looks like an aging poorly frump with sad mosquito bite breasts. So I am not even sure what SO is excited about ... Perhaps Betty Gilpin and what she describes as her "baby manatee sized pups". Her boobs. Anyway, this show is dull and seems forced. Plus racist and full of absurd situations. No, no soap actress would ever stoop to the level of faux wrestling. Just gag me with a spoon before I have to watch more of this tripe. Expand

GLOW is essentially Orange is the New Black with 80’s female wrestling, and to be frank that should be enough to tell you whether or not it’ll be a show for you. Personally I thought it took a couple of episodes before it really found its feet but once it did it made for a consistently entertaining, and sometimes even laugh out loud, watch.

The story is about a group of different peoples (mostly in the show business...actress, directors, producers ... ) that try to run an all female wresting TV show. Most of the episodes are about the personal lives of these people and why they try to take part in this show.
Dialogues are well written, the story of all the protagonists are deep and adult..sometimes dramatic, there are 80's references without being obsessed with the "nostalgia effects".

Though it definitely seems to focus on one main protagonist, Ruth, it highlights some of the other women and gives a bit of their backstory as well. I truly hope the writers keep adding dimension to each character and expand the depth of each one. . One character I'd actually like to see grow more and didn't get as much satisfaction from is Ruth's opposite, Debbie. I feel her character needs a bit more of something and the surface was only scratched in her development the first season. We want her to succeed simply based on how she was literally screwed over, but not because we're rooting for her in some of the ways we root for the other girls of GLOW. There are moments she even seems weak, but left craving a stronger and more intriguing character, not another typical pretty "dumb" blonde. Obviously the show works off of stereotypes with the possible purpose of conquering those ridiculous myths, but hopefully each character gets a chance to not only debunk these labels, but strip down to the core of who these ladies are. The touches of heartfelt moments and those of fun and awkward ones makes this show it's own unique vision. I have high hopes of where the writers take this one. Expand

[I badly know English, my native Russian, it is machine translation, excuse me]

NetFlix sends us to history again, and again to the 80th, as well as last year in "Very strange things". Of course, before us now not a horror film.

"Glow" is someone's nostalgia on the endured past or on feelings which give old movies, music, cars, clothes.

"Glow" is ill-matched characters, the robot giving drugs, a female wolf and about ten more unusual persons with the social stories.

"Glow" is really ridiculous humour and vital jokes about KGB, the USSR, Cold War, racial and gender discrimination.

"Glow" is a feature film with the long timing which tells the viewer penetrating stories about surprising, though quite ordinary women.

"Glow" is a tragedy. And what really life story can do without it?!

And still these series tell about the American dream, let also with a bias on female wrestling. By the way, it is a little remotely, but nevertheless this cinema in something is similar to Darren Aronofsky's "Wrestler". Just about wrestlers and about wrestling of really good movies is removed a little.

P/S: "the subject of boobs is opened" in the first episode for involvement (enticement) of the audience, everything is farther it will be relative grandly and nobly.

Great dramedy show. After countless and obnoxious recommendation from my friends, decided to check it out. Was pleasantly surprised and binge watched first season in 2 days.

Their marriage has clearly deteriorated. Even though the show is all about girl power, I still feel like its slightly sexist.

Verdict: Quality television, great example of character study/development done right. Can't wait for season 2...which isn't really all that necessary, but the characters deserve more life. It's kind of like House of Cards. Frank became the president. Great. We can end it here.

However rough around the edges this show understands how to reach a point. It doesn't meander as most first seasons do but comes in mindful of what it has to say and staying it well enough you come back for more. Adapted from an unbelievably true story it's a stomachache of laughs and an onion for the eyes.

It’s smartly plotted, with characters that deepen in the course of the show. But, refreshingly, in our era of homework TV, it’s also a joyride, all roller skates and mousse-claw bangs, synthesizer jams and leopard-print leotards, home pregnancy tests and cocaine-serving robots. By the final episodes, I was whooping at my computer screen, fists in the air, like a superfan.
