this show is GREAT representation of what it likes to go through high school as a queer poc. There’s humor, angst, and a great sense of community.

The fact that the reviews are filled with Shawn Mendes' fans who got butthurt over a joke on the show tells you a lot. This show has LGBT+ representation and does it so well. The plot is so much fun and the writing is amazing. It deserves a season 2 so bad, so please, consider giving this show a chance!

It's funny, relatable and realistic show with a great cast and amazing queer representation (queer characters are literally played by queer actors). it was much easier to watch for me than euphoria cause it was actually written by young people with teenage povs in mind. also it's sometimes so cute and hilarious, as a 18yo queer teenager I'm so happy I finally have a show I can relate to

Justice Smith leads a fantastic cast of young up-and-comers in this chaotic, funny but most importantly heartfelt ode to teenage queers.

This show is the best representation of queer youth I’ve ever seen on screen. This is what we need, this is the show that queer youth NEED to feel seen and represented. This show has changed my life and so many others. 10/10 recommend to ANY queer person, but also just all people in general. Especially kids in our generation.

One of the only shows that truly represents the LGBTQ+ community truly for what it is. I absolutely loved this show, finished it in one setting. I thought it was the closest I’ve seen to realistic teen characters, which made sense once I found out there were young writers involved. I’m in love with the cast. I feel like the characters are written down to a T when it comes to the way the dress, the music they listen to, their catch phrases. Really hoping for a season 2!!

This show has the best LGBTQ+ representation out there! Shows teens in a real way unlike many other shows that push for drama and edginess. These characters are REAL and RAW.

This show is truly the queer representation we have been missing for a very long time. And not just the representation, but the queer joy, which is something the youth of today need to see on-screen. It gives a very accurate depiction of many queer teen lives, and feels incredibly authentic in its writing, characters and plot lines. I recommend it 100%!

This show is so important for queer youth, and may I add for everyone really. Is raw, vulnerable, beautiful, funny, sad, real and created by queer people for queer people. The actors are amazing at drawing us audience in and feeling each emotion with them. Recommend it!

Incredible, relevant, raw and amazing performances!

So important to queer and bipoc folks who never saw themselves represented in this light on screen before. Beautiful character arcs and mesmerizing cinematography that adds to the emotional complexity of these characters relationships and interactions. Created by queer people for queer people. I've never felt so seen on screen before

I've never felt so seen on screen before this show. Thank you Zelda Barnz for creating such a heartfelt show and giving us this characters that mean so much to me, specially Greta and Riley!

HBO would make a huge mistake to cancel the show

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this show is Girls but for teens. A lot of the complaints are about how unlikable/immoral the characters are, but that's the point. The characters aren't supposed to be likable. I think it's really refreshing to have a drama featuring LGBT antiheroes rather than the straight ones we usually get. A lot of the characters are performatively woke, invested in social justice etc and that's the point, the show is meant to critique its characters. Favourite scene so far is a girl stuck in a lockdown pretending to freak out about it so she upsets her dads, then going right back to complete stoicism. If you like shows with flawed characters you'll enjoy it. Additional note, lots of comparisons to Euphoria but other than "prestige show with messy high school kids" the similarities end there. I found Euphoria a lot more nihilistic and depressing to watch. Genera+ion isn't exactly sunshine and rainbows, but it doesn't make me feel like we're trapped in an endless nightmare the way Euphoria does. Expand

Anyone who whimsically tells you this is honest is not. Anyone who tells you this is funny is not. Anyone who tells you this is "real" is not.

Watch 5 minutes of the show and then tell me with a straight face it's worthy of TV, much less HBO. Who is in charge of the asylum anymore? Lena?

Generation is comfortable just following the kids around and letting them exist. It’s a bit more uneven when things get plottier or when the focus shifts to the grown-ups.

Toggling between horny and clueless, the characters on “Genera+ion” feel less like 20-somethings than the pervs of “Euphoria” and less wholesome than the ones on “Sex Education.” Unfortunately, it’s everything that happens in between that’s a bit of a confused mess.

An exhausting nihilism fuels Genera+ion, which grafts the preening, lukewarm snark of Gossip Girl onto the bracing pseudo-realism of Larry Clark’s Kids.
