The writing this season so far after 2 episodes is simply inexcusable. From constant brainless quips that would put Marvel to shame, to a story that moves at a snail's pace where characters talk a lot but don't say much of substance, to characters acting erratically not being true to their motives anymore in a world that no longer follow its own internal logic, it all falls apart asThe writing this season so far after 2 episodes is simply inexcusable. Make no mistake, if this had been the quality of the show when it first started it would have been cancelled and forgotten after the first or second season.

The second episode is more boring than the first. It's all about plot setups and padding. You'll be safe in the crypt, O yes, very, very safe. Yawn...

This has turned into an anime. The acting has become as exciting as the antagonist goal. Non-existant. It has done what the Avengers: infinity wars did, diluted any form of complexity and just showed the archetypical characters.

It insults your cognition left, right and centre. It's like: You are too stupid to figure it out so we will make it as obvious as we can. Then all of a sudden

Fantasy and politics, something Tolkien showed us in a perfect way but lacked politcs, don't get me wrong Tolkien is the master and this is a well created show that makes honor of this.

So far, it's only ok, in the way the last 2 seasons have only been only ok, Game Of Thrones in it's first 5 seasons (with exceptions) was the greatest television show I had ever seen, I loved it, and physically needed more of it because of the way it wove it's story, built it's characters, laid out it's plot, and surprised us. After the third season I read every book in A Song of Ice and Fire, simply devoured them. Season 7 was an almost complete let down with plot holes/time shifts so consequential It took me right out of the narrative. Episode 1 of Season 8 continued Season 7's practice of depriving us all of the emotional resonance these character reunions should have had. Every character is getting the short shift, all the actors promise this season will "blow our minds", Maisie said "she loved the reunion scene with Jon", when all I saw was 3 minutes of meh. I only like Game Of Thrones tv show now, but I used to love it. Expand

Game of Thrones returns with a strong gust, but not a bang. In total, provided that episode 2 and 4 can follow suit with suitable bookends, and satisfying conclusions to long-awaited character arcs, at least one major part of Thrones will recieve a commendable conclusion. The show is its own monster after detaching from the safety of martins writing, and in some areas you could argue it has suffered slightly for it, last season had 1 or 2 weaker episodes, the writers clearly trying to move all of the key players into position ready for the end, and the first episode of this season was more or less a calm before the storm episode. Which is COMPLETELY ok. Which is COMPLETELY ok. Not every episode needs to be 10/10 heart-in-your-mouth action, game of thrones has always had slower episodes, and im kind of glad they didnt rush straight into the war from the get go. Building tension has always been GoTs strong suite, we know whats coming, we usually always do with this show.

The thing that really sets GoT apart from any other show is that, 99 percent of the time, when we know something is coming, GoT delivers and then some. Think of all of those big episodes in the past, the big ones we waited eagerly for. The red wedding, hardhome, botb, winds of winter (my personal favorite epside of all time) and now, we KNOW whats coming.

And i for one am feeling very secure in the idea that GoT will deliver. It has earned that trust, by delivering so many times before.

I am READY. A good start, leads to an amazing end.

Daenerys isn't a villain. Daenerys was sold, raped and betrayed, fought for what she wanted and won all obstacles, so can the writers treat her as the leader she is? Cause all we saw in the premiere was a weak and boring sidekick to Jon.

Jon learning the truth as early as this episode was a wise choice from the show-runners also him riding the dragon named after his father was an important step into his transition to a true Targaryen. All in all, this episode was really fun to watch. Expand

Thrones" is an unwieldy beast, and it's still possible that the show won't be able to stick the landing. But if the premiere is any guide, like Jon and Daenerys' dizzying date, the remaining five episodes promise to be a genuinely wild ride.

The show kicks off with one of the best episodes yet. But it is still way too slow for the last season which ends up being quite underwhelming. I'm sure it will pick up steam but that can't happen soon enough.

The premiere pulled everyone and everything together; it was, for the most part, an almost nostalgic hour. ... It is the competing loyalties, the loves and enmities that enmesh the Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and the rest, after all, and the questions Game of Thrones poses about conscience and corruption and the manifestations of power, that will propel us through to the end.

As in season 7, the big problem with “Winterfell”—the reason it felt more like an unlucky videographer’s rendering of an exceptionally dysfunctional family reunion than like a carefully crafted story—was the pacing.

The show has stepped up its pacing. For the most part, that has been immensely satisfying, yielding crowd-pleasing moments that the and that the series generally avoided in the often-grim journey, especially for the Stark kids, which has led to this point.
