The show is its own monster after detaching from the safety of martins writing, and in some areas you could argue it has suffered slightly for it, last season had 1 or 2 weaker episodes, the writers clearly trying to move all of the key players into position ready for the end, and the first episode of this season was more or less a calm before the storm episode. Which is COMPLETELY ok. Not every episode needs to be 10/10 heart-in-your-mouth action, game of thrones has always had slower episodes, and im kind of glad they didnt rush straight into the war from the get go. Building tension has always been GoTs strong suite, we know whats coming, we usually always do with this show.

The thing that really sets GoT apart from any other show is that, 99 percent of the time, when we know something is coming, GoT delivers and then some. Think of all of those big episodes in the past, the big ones we waited eagerly for. The red wedding, hardhome, botb, winds of winter (my personal favorite epside of all time) and now, we KNOW whats coming.

And i for one am feeling very secure in the idea that GoT will deliver. It has earned that trust, by delivering so many times before.

I am READY. A good start, leads to an amazing end.

It's strange, but I wasn't disappointed by the final season, like mainstream was.
There are some flaws, of course. But not so "lethal", as for me.

So watch it at your own risk.

This rich story, that has been an exciting roller coaster, is now shaped on a story no one saw coming. We finally know who the main characters are, and who everything that happened so far mattered. Complex characters, great acting, and finally dragons.

I think that I might be in the minority of fans because yes there were things I would have changed but that is with most seasons of most shows and overall I really enjoyed this last season and it is one of my favorite final seasons of all time. The lead acting was phenomenal especially from Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Rory McCann, Kristofer Hivju, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright and Alfie Allen. Pilou Asbæk, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Gemma Whelan, Jacob Anderson, Bella Ramsey, Tobias Menzies, Daniel Portman, Jerome Flynn, and Conleth Hill gave outstanding supporting performances. Carice van Houten and Joe Dempsie gave excellent guest performances. The visual effects were exceptional especially in the scene where Jon and Daenerys were riding on Drogon and Rhaegal, the scene where Drogon melts the Iron Throne, and the scene where Viserion was attacking Winterfell, the dragons Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal are the best visual effects I have ever seen in a TV show. The costumes wore by Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Lena Headey, Carice van Houten, Kit Harington, Nathalie Emmanuel, Maisie Williams, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Bradley, Alfie Allen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, and Kirstofer Hivju were remarkable. The makeup and hairstyling was stupendous especially on Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Carice van Houten, Nathalie Emmanuel, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Kristofer Hivju, Pilou Asbæk, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Nikolai Coster-Waldau, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, John Bradley, Hannah Murray, and Gemma Whelan. The music was superb as always, the opening theme is my favorite opening theme of all time. The writing was great but there were only a few things I didn't like like the way Rhaegal and Missandei we're killed and I didn't like how Daenerys was turned into a tyrant and killed but overall I loved this season and it was another A+ season and I can say that this is my 2nd favorite TV series of all time and always will be. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the people who think, plot for episode 5 was bad, just think about it one more time,
Dany has lost her 2 dragons, of which one dragon was very recently killed by Cersei’s navy, she lost her dothraki army, she lost her lover, jorah, missandei was killed in front of her, and she couldn’t do anything about it, even after all these, she was betrayed by varys, jon, tyrion, she became possessive about her claim to the iron throne, her dream, her everything was under danger for her.
Not to forget about the hatred she received from sansa, even after she had fought in the Great War, her under appreciation, she couldn’t get any love in the seven kingdoms.
She was already short-tempered, and after all that anger and all that rage, she couldn’t control it, and lost control over her feelings, and she destroyed everything.
Everything was perfectly plotted in the episode.
Writers can’t make Arya look bad, because if she had killed cersei, then she would have to kill Cersei’s unborn child also, and that would have made Arya look cruel

About Jaime leaving Brianne for cersei,
Jaime loved both of them, but loved cersei more, so he had to make lies to make both Brianne and tyrion hate him, so that it would have been easier for them to forget Jaime.

The last day and night before the clash between living and dead is portrayed masterly, especially in terms of story and characters interactions and the feelings they sense during what it might be their last day alive. Everyone decides to do and say what they need to do and say before dying and that is conveyed to the spectator in the most human way. Of course this makes dialogues simple and politics to almost nothing. At this point everyone had better acknowledge that GoT is made up especially of emotions and action, like it or not.

I completed season 8 and had no major problems with it at all. I was disappointed in that it felt as if they cramped two seasons into one by combining the big fight against the dead and the big fight against Kings Landing. The dead war could have been season 8 by itself and Kings Landing season 9 by itself as well...not sure why the show had to suddenly stop after season 8. This compressing two seasons into one made for less character development, less compelling storylines, and less in the way of emotional involvement by the audience. There were many obvious death scenes but that itself does not create a good story. The richness of season 8 also led to too many instances where the viewer who lost some memory of events from previous seasons or dared elect to watch season 8 without watching the prior seasons would have lost many subtle nuances in dialogue and action. In other words, season 8 could not stand-alone and fully enjoyed without prior knowledge...this was most unfortunate given the massive media surrounding the season...I am sure many tuned in just out of curiosity but may have fallen off by the second or third episode of the season.

There were also obvious attempts by the writers to challenge the audience by not taking the story where we all anticipated. They wanted to offer some surprises...Some worked and other did not...sometimes history (life) can imitate art but there are times art has to imitate history (life)...in the cases of the latter the storylines don't always end cleanly, characters don't always die in a blaze of glory, and the good guys don't always come out on top. The writers should have trusted the audience more and not have tried so hard to create the big surprise ending and instead been truer to what the story was in seasons 1 thru 7. Overall the series is a 10...season 8 as a stand-alone is an 8.

Finally, the vitriol over the ending is totally unwarranted...there were hints that this was coming throughout the series...we (me included) all just got lost in the spectacle of the other two charterers (whom I shall not name) as the hero and heroine of the series and overlooked the rest.

The most relevant question that ardent GOT fans need to ask is whether season 8 is terrible because of the writing ... or because the popular fan-theories stewing over the 2-year wait has not come to pass.

For many years, people have watched and re-watched season 1 to date, studying every character, every conversation, and every moment down to the smallest detail. As at the end of season 7; season 8 was bound on a highly predictable trajectory. Enter season 8, and the audience is left with quite the opposite. What has always remained a constant throughout the lifespan of the show is that "you either die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" (vice-versa).

Perhaps the main reason for the mixed emotions of Season 8 is that we see some of the most beloved characters turn into villains. Still, the complex and layered dialogue between characters is sorely missing in this final season of GOT. Instead, the audience is left to draw insight into characters motives and intention by gauging their facial expressions and body language against mesmerising and beautiful settings.

One can't help but sympathise with the show-runners in drawing this detail-orientated and truly epic show to close in the space of 6 episodes alone (despite their extended lengths). It is indeed difficult to bid farewell to any long-running show - but GOT - is perhaps the most difficult to part ways with in recent years. The mortality of the characters that we have all grown to love and hate over 8 seasons is what makes GOT one of the kind. Season 8 neither needs saving nor (dare I say) shall ruin the entire series beyond repair. It shall remain the greatest television show in history for years to come.

Game of Thrones has always stood strong and made tough choices to keep the series fresh and its central characters extremely important. The revelation of Jon Snow's heritage, Daenerys' ascension as a new superpower, the battle with the Night King, and Cersei's resistance all feel mishandled. So much of season 8 feels so rushed. Sometimes the show's writing and narrative choices feel great but the biggest moments often come off as rushed and insincere which will annoys probably a majority of fans. Even in the series finale, the most important episode to land in the entire GoT catalog, idiotic choices in storytelling, flash forwarding, and more leave room for an inappropriate amount of questions that needed to be answered. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone cruising through the reviews so I'll keep from any real plot reveals that could spoil the fun for another viewer but I just can't be happy with what happened in the final episode, which started off fine and then beings to fall apart after the 1/3 point of its 79 minute runtime. I can't believe the show's writers forced everything into 6 episodes when HBO offered them a solid 10 episodes which were probably required to bridge gaps and let big moments really breathe. If Martin's books follow the same general path of the TV series there's going to be a second uproar from fans. Martin has a chance to not be so ignorant and hasty as the show's executive producers and directors and I doubt Martin would be so numb to a good ending that he'd risk repeating the final events the same way the show did. This is the risk you run when you get ahead of yourself. Perhaps the show should have taken more time off? But the final season had already skipped a year to make sure it was polished up. No matter what, HBO will surely be spiteful toward GoT's show heads for ending things so rocky. The first 7 seasons all had their special moments and the rise of Jon Snow seems like such an easy home run to hit and yet I have to completely disagree with where the show's creators lead his path when all is said and done despite having several special moments in season 8. Perhaps the only things gotten right in the final moments of GoT is the remaining Stark family's bow-tied end, Daenerys' outcome, Tyrion Lannister's huge importance being recognized more and more. Just about everything else felt wrong, it felt half-assed with plot twists. Expand

I’m still enjoying it somewhat mostly just because of the spectacle of it all but this shows quality has definitely taken a big hit.

Season 7 was an almost complete let down with plot holes/time shifts so consequential It took me right out of the narrative. Episode 1 of Season 8 continued Season 7's practice of depriving us all of the emotional resonance these character reunions should have had. Everyone and their mother could argue for eternity, and none of us would be right or wrong, besides a few things that are simply not up to debate - GoT has probably the best production of any piece of entertainment on TV ever, and it was brought to you by extremely talented people both in front and behind the camera - in the end what matters is whether you enjoyed it or not. That said, try to be a little bit objective and please refrain from acting as if you're entitled to anything more than what you've got. If you hated it, all I can say is that I'm sorry. I sincerely hope you find something that makes you care this much in the future.

I personally consider the first 3 (maybe 4) seasons of this show gold. The rest doesn't really compare. I've been off the bandwagon for a while, but I did find each and every following season incredibly entertaining. The same with this finale. I enjoyed it. Season 8 had many low points, and quite a few soaring highs as well. Overall, what really bothers me is that these last few seasons shouldn't have become shorter, but longer. A 10 episode season with 90 minutes each might just have been the ticket. Alas, it is a shame. For whatever reason that just did not happen, and we have to accept that fact and move on.

G.R.R. Martin was right. It is a bittersweet goodbye, but a fond farewell nonetheless.

Before the last episode, the season stood at an 8, which is low for Game of Thrones (usually a 9 or 10) but that stupid ending killed it for me. What a bloody joke. Watching this season, while the events follow each other quickly in a superficial way, without explanation, without in-depth analysis, and the characters turn into puppets moved by hands that are too hasty, we understand that whoever adapted Martin's story wanted to finish the job at all costs .

It doesn't matter if Martin spent more than 30 years thinking and writing a story full of details. The television business has its times, and the quality is too expensive in this world, more than all the special effects and actors have cost.

While Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” ends on a satisfying note, it is much more loosely plotted than its previous seasons. This allows for some spectacular moments, but also leaves space open for inconsistent writing by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. By hiring a third writer, the season could have been more polished and impactful than the end product received.

GOT: Season 8 is the weakest season of the show for sure, since it felt extremely rushed and at times nonsensical. The writing was at times horrendous, even though there were a few moments that honestly were well-done. But, it mostly seemed rushed and all over the place, which is a shame. Some characters were well-developed, but others had such a poor character development that many times it seemed undeserved how their character turned out to become to. The plot armor was so absurd at many instances, diminishing the overall tension. This season definitely needed to have 10 episodes so the events could be explained more thoroughly and sensibly, because 6 episodes were not enough at all for this season. But the redeeming qualities of this season are the outstanding visuals, acting and direction, and all of these things made the season more tolerable than it would've been without them. I rated it so low previously probably because I was comparing this season with the other ones too much, and maybe that's kind of unfair. The season on its own isn't so awful, but it's still a huge disappointment. Although the ending was mediocre, I still accept it as it is. This ending was heart-breaking both in the sense that it was disappointing and that the show has finally ended, after all of that hardship and drama.

It is still somewhat entertaining if you've invested yourself into the world and character, but every scene is lazily strung together, contradicting itself and forcing moments they think the fans want to see. Clearly the high fantasy and in depth politics were just too grand for the show-runners to accomplish without a full guideline and story to adapt from the books. It's harsh to say, but they truly have wasted the potential of a great Game of Thrones adaption and have ruined most of the long awaited moments, especially the White Walker confrontation, as they clearly didn't have the talent or ability to pull off the grander prophecies and intricate structures, subtexts or foreshadowing that George Martin put so much time into, and which they even established in the early seasons. It is such a shame that so much work and build up has come to so many storyline conclusions that meant nothing and were unjustified. Dan and Dave continue to say in interviews that they make decisions because they want to shock us, but they constantly do this at the expense of all logical and satisfying storytelling. It has become amateurish and childish, wasting everything that long time fans were hoping for and have betrayed everything that the books stood for, being fantasy subversion. It is now a lifeless, illogical and vapid husk of what A Song of Ice and Fire started over 20 years ago. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There have arguably been worse final seasons to once great TV shows, but none have ever disappointed me as much as this. The acting and production values remain as good as ever but the writing, which has steadily declined in quality since the show outpaced the books, takes a bigger nosedive than I could ever have imagined possible. Rumour has it that lead writers Benioff and Weiss chose to wrap the series up with this six episode final season despite HBO essentially giving them free reign to keep the series on air for as long as they wanted. Whatever the motivation for this decision (and rumour is they wanted to move on and take a big money offer from Disney to write the next Star Wars movie(s)) the result is an incredibly rushed finale full of plot holes and terrible character decisions and the list of issues is virtually endless...

The entire battle with the Night King for example, a threat that has been looming over the show since the pilot, lasts just one episode and we never find out anything new regarding his motivations. Daenerys suddenly goes from conqueror to committing genocide (for absolutely no reason), Jamie Lannister’s whole redemption arch is undone in the space of two minutes, Bran’s whole journey to become the Three Eyed Raven serves no purpose in any of the major battles... I could go on but you get the point!

Let’s hope George RR Martin finally gets around to finishing the books and does a much better job of sticking the landing than this show managed.

Agree with consensus it's the biggest best show of its time (despite HBO's typically lurid, salaciously depraved thumbprint further debasing the culture) with all seasons through the last rating between 9 and 10 here, but this final season is clearly a major disappointment missing the tremendous narrative craft so expertly executed previously. They blew it!

This sums up the length of dialogue written for Kit Harington.

Now I’ve held off my thoughts for season 8 for awhile now because...well, if you heard the overall disappointment from fans, just so you know I was one of them. It’s sometimes hard to express disappointment for something you dedicated for six years.

Game of Thrones: Season 8 was awful and a lackluster finale, which shouldn’t be the case right? In a perfect world this should’ve conclude in a satisfying way that fans should reflect back in a positive perspective. However, looking back from three seasons ago, the seeds were planted around season 5 for a beautiful disaster.

I got to give the creative team credit where it’s due. The sets, costumes, score and the visual effects were all superb and beats any show by a mile. I can tell a lot of passion and effort went into making the show look as great as it dose. And just because a coffee cup and a plastic water bottle was left in the shot doesn’t mean that the team stopped trying, but it’s the film makers who scan the footage over and over again to bring into question. The effort is seen on screen, yet the passion is heard in the behind the scenes making of each episode and how much of an honor to been given this opportunity.

The cast were fantastic this season despite the material given to them. I can see the cast putting sweat and tears into every episode.

Peter Dinklage is excellent as usual and in this season it isn’t any different. The scene in episode six ‘The Iron Throne’, where Tyrion finds Jamie and Cersei under neath the rubble - I thought Peter was truly brilliant and his breakdown was so heartbreaking. Unfortunately the writing for his character took a massive nose drive after they ran out of material from George R.R. Martin books and it got so much worst. Tyrion, a once intelligent character that took his dwarfism away from people perspective to instead judge him on his character in terms of his wise wit in a barbaric world, but now it comes down to idiotic jokes like “I’Ve GOt bALLs aNd yOu dOnT lOl”, and makes plenty of dumb decsisons that feels endless. He’s entire plan to convince his psychotic sister Cersei, which by the way she wants him dead and has lied many times before to be trusted, and yet he still believes she can change he own ways. Also, I find it absolutely annoying when Tyrion gets the opportunity to suggest who should be king despite being a prisoner and Grey Worm telling him to hush at the start, but doesn’t say a single word during the discussion. I guess the writers kinda forgot about Tyrion’s intelligence.

Lena Headey was great this season even through she spent the entire season staring out of window drinking wine, which by the way she got top billing. Cersei has been pregnant for quite awhile now and not for a second dose it show. I guess the writers kinda forgot about that.

I feel sorry for Kit Harington, as this show and his character made him who he is today - he never saw it as work. So it’s sad the writers turned Jon into a one note buffon that vomits awful dialogue like “yOu aRe MY qUeEn”, and “ i dOn’T wAnT IT”, or “i lOvE yOu”. With Jon coming back from the dead by the lord of light for a greater purpose that basically goes nowhere. The whole Targaryen thing and Jon being the rightful heir to throne also goes nowhere. I guess everyone kinda forgot about that.

Jamie's entire character arc was completely wasted. The powerful scene in season three where Nikolaj Coster-Waldau delivers such a raw and devastating performance of a man with the weight on his shoulders over a situation that saved millions of lives, including women and children, but was heavily shamed for killing his king. In season 1, me and everyone loathed Jamie. His cockness mix with his despicable acts left a mark through out the show. However, saying Jamie has changed is a massive understatement - he’s almost a completely different person. A new man that’s been re-born after not only redeeming himself, but accepts his past and does what he feels is right. Well all that is gone with one line and a decision that’s so out of left field it makes no sense. “To be honest, I never really cared much for them. Innocent or otherwise”, and returns to Cersei despite disowning her in the last season. I also find it funny when you break down everything Jamie does this season. He leaves Cersei, travels to Winterfell, sleeps with Brienne, doesn’t like it, goes back to Cersei, and dies. I guess the writers kinda forgot about his character arc.

The second episode is more boring than the first. It's all about plot setups and padding. You'll be safe in the crypt, O yes, very, very safe. Yawn...

As far the endings go, this is not the worst ending they could have made, but it was clearly rushed. Writers just said "f*** this, lets wrap it up and go make star wars trilogy". What a way to treat fans...
I am just sad.... Season 1-6 were so good.

The downhill trend continues. A sad season to end the largest tv series ever produced. No amount of fantastic acting or effects could cover for a distinct drop in the show's writing, which leaves the impression that Benioff and Weiss no longer have the will to maintain the show's quality in a final mad sprint to the finish line.

Absolutely poorly written, stupid character decisions and development, a frustrating conclusion to what was once a great show

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a disappointment! The first couple of seasons belong no doubt to television’s proudest achievements. I really loved GOT. But what the writers did with the storylines and the characters in the final two seasons is nothing but disappointing and a real shame. And in the end, they simply had no clue how to do justice to all the buildup from the previous seasons. One battle against the biggest threat from the north? Seriously, that was it? And Cersei dies in a cave without being confronted by her enemies directly? All the experiences that Jamie had to endure seem to be just a waste of time, he dies with his sister. And Dany turning into Hitler and going mad and aiming to become ruler of the world? I could go on and on, but this collection of plot-holes just spoils everything that used to make GOT one of the best series ever. Expand

Muito fraco !!! Último episódio sem emoção alguma , meio bagunçado, acho q se perderam no meio do caminho , poderiam ter feito algo épico , mas a meu ver , o fim ficou bem longe disso !

The premiere pulled everyone and everything together; it was, for the most part, an almost nostalgic hour. ... It is the competing loyalties, the loves and enmities that enmesh the Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and the rest, after all, and the questions Game of Thrones poses about conscience and corruption and the manifestations of power, that will propel us through to the end.

As in season 7, the big problem with “Winterfell”—the reason it felt more like an unlucky videographer’s rendering of an exceptionally dysfunctional family reunion than like a carefully crafted story—was the pacing.

The show has stepped up its pacing. For the most part, that has been immensely satisfying, yielding crowd-pleasing moments that the and that the series generally avoided in the often-grim journey, especially for the Stark kids, which has led to this point.
