    I'll always be DISGUSTED and appalled by the creators of the show, for what they did to Daenerys. They took a decade-long story of freedom, strength, and hope, and transformed it into a grotesque descent into madness and despair. This is only a TV show, but it affects the psyche and ideas of people. Shame on them. Where are the stories of hope and positive messages these days?     It's not all to throw away! While it's undeniable that this is the worst season of Game of Thrones, it's only insignificant when compared to the others. The problem with this eighth and final season is that Game of Thrones had accustomed us all too well.     In terms of visuals, CGI, music, cinematography, budget, etc., this season is incredible. But the writing and storytelling is absolutely horrendous. I have never seen such an incredible show be butchered so shamelessly. For that reason I really cannot rank this season any higher than 2/10, because Game of Thrones was previously the pinnacle of incredible writing and storytelling.

    A far cry. A grave disappointment of rushed ideas in the penultimate season of a saga of dramatic growth. It plays like a shock exercise and spoils previous seasons. .

    Sometimes I stop and try to think of ways the showrunners could have ruined Game of Thrones more than they did in this season. Somehow, I can never, ever find an answer for that.

    I don’t think it’s possible to have written a worse ending to this brilliant brilliant series. It’s so incredibly horrible I actually believe they tanked it on purpose. I’ll never understand how they could have let this happen... even the actors in interviews about the last season are visibly disturbed about how it ended.

    Good ending. Yeah maybe too hard to admit for some dramatic and purist people but it was good. Yeah some errors here and there, but overall the quality and the feeling was good. Maybe a decade later people will understand the genius and uniqueness of this show.

I think that I might be in the minority of fans because yes there were things I would have changed but that is with most seasons of most shows and overall I really enjoyed this last season and it is one of my favorite final seasons of all time. The lead acting was phenomenal especially from Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Rory McCann, Kristofer Hivju, Iain Glen, Isaac Hempstead Wright and Alfie Allen. Pilou Asbæk, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Gemma Whelan, Jacob Anderson, Bella Ramsey, Tobias Menzies, Daniel Portman, Jerome Flynn, and Conleth Hill gave outstanding supporting performances. Carice van Houten and Joe Dempsie gave excellent guest performances. The visual effects were exceptional especially in the scene where Jon and Daenerys were riding on Drogon and Rhaegal, the scene where Drogon melts the Iron Throne, and the scene where Viserion was attacking Winterfell, the dragons Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal are the best visual effects I have ever seen in a TV show. The costumes wore by Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Lena Headey, Carice van Houten, Kit Harington, Nathalie Emmanuel, Maisie Williams, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Bradley, Alfie Allen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, and Kirstofer Hivju were remarkable. The makeup and hairstyling was stupendous especially on Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Carice van Houten, Nathalie Emmanuel, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Kristofer Hivju, Pilou Asbæk, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Nikolai Coster-Waldau, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, Isaac Hempstead Wright, John Bradley, Hannah Murray, and Gemma Whelan. The music was superb as always, the opening theme is my favorite opening theme of all time. The writing was great but there were only a few things I didn't like like the way Rhaegal and Missandei we're killed and I didn't like how Daenerys was turned into a tyrant and killed but overall I loved this season and it was another A+ season and I can say that this is my 2nd favorite TV series of all time and always will be.… Expand

    This season is really underrated. i dont wanna say its great but it has its own moments that real fans wil enjoy it. And the acting and atomsphere is really good like other seasons. Especially episode 3 that has got great visuals and its thrilling as hell. overall it was a good ending not a bad one for sure. People should not be so dramatic about it.

And with the massive plot that GOT had, it really made it impossible to make a perfect ending.     I used to love this show, the story, characters, the sprawling setting. It's one of the first series that really made me care and root for the characters.     But that all changed with the final season. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year, its commonly known that George RR Martin has not released his final book of the franchise. The final two seasons were all HBO original content, and they could maintain the story in passable quality during the seventh season. However, when it came to ending the story it is rushed, anticlimactic, and immeasurably disappointing.

    Characters started acting stupid, or just entirely unlike themselves. Loved heroes become confusingly insane, they lost all semblance of motivations from past seasons and suddenly became totally different people. The writer's excuse? A new motivation from past seasons is written in to skip development, in other words, retcons galore.

    The dialogue became inanely simplistic or just repetitive and boring. So little of importance is ever said. Characters just stare off in the distance vacantly, then occasionally they make the most observances that anyone could have inferred on their own. What happened to the complex script full of setups, payoffs, and humanly written characters?

    The only thing left to do now is scrub the awful ending out of my head by rewatching the past six seasons. Then I'll wait for George RR Martin to release the true ending because this is an absolute disgrace. D&D spit in the faces of millions of GOT fans. The best recommendation I can give this show is to watch the first six seasons (and the seventh if you want to test your patience) then forget about season eight.    … Expand

    I don't know a single Game of Thrones fan that could not write a better final season to the show. This season is a remarkable piece of garbage, that managed to ruin the entire series. The characters are two dimensional and plain stupid now. The plot armor is so thick that you literally watch your favorite characters die and continue alive, specially in episode 3.     Who is going to be the king? Bran, VOTED by Tyrion, who is sentenced to death (?) and somehow can decide who the king is (??)

    Game of Thrones' rushed final chapter lacks intricate and organic storytelling, leaving behind wasted opportunities and squandered goodwill in its fiery wake; however, it coherently wraps up (most) character arcs and twists the knife in enough unexpected ways to end on a reasonably satisfying note, all while providing the cinematic entertainment fans have come to expect.

This is the biggest middle finger, slap in the face, kick in the nuts, stab in the back, shot to the head Benioff and Weiss could have done.     Everyone and their mother could argue for eternity, and none of us would be right or wrong, besides a few things that are simply not up to debate - GoT has probably the best production of any piece of entertainment on TV ever, and it was brought to you by extremely talented people both in front and behind the camera - in the end what matters is whether you enjoyed it or not. That said, try to be a little bit objective and please refrain from acting as if you're entitled to anything more than what you've got. If you hated it, all I can say is that I'm sorry. I sincerely hope you find something that makes you care this much in the future.

    I personally consider the first 3 (maybe 4) seasons of this show gold. The rest doesn't really compare. I've been off the bandwagon for a while, but I did find each and every following season incredibly entertaining. The same with this finale. I enjoyed it. Season 8 had many low points, and quite a few soaring highs as well. Overall, what really bothers me is that these last few seasons shouldn't have become shorter, but longer. A 10 episode season with 90 minutes each might just have been the ticket. Alas, it is a shame. For whatever reason that just did not happen, and we have to accept that fact and move on.

    G.R.R. Martin was right. It is a bittersweet goodbye, but a fond farewell nonetheless.    … Expand

    Worst final season in TV history. I'm giving them a 3 for the inmense work of the actors and every single person who made it look as visually stunning as it always is.
    The writing tho was **** It was rushed, nonsensical, dumbified characters became a parody of themselves, they lacked motivation, every single one of them got ruined. D&D should be never be hired again after this.

Season 7 Wight Hunt was ridiculous, and that's were I started to lose hope for a great ending. There is no rewatching value after season 8. Turning a 10/10 into 8 would still have been ok.     This sums up the length of dialogue written for Kit Harington.

    Now I’ve held off my thoughts for season 8 for awhile now because...well, if you heard the overall disappointment from fans, just so you know I was one of them. It’s sometimes hard to express disappointment for something you dedicated for six years.

    Game of Thrones: Season 8 was awful and a lackluster finale, which shouldn’t be the case right? In a perfect world this should’ve conclude in a satisfying way that fans should reflect back in a positive perspective. However, looking back from three seasons ago, the seeds were planted around season 5 for a beautiful disaster.

    I got to give the creative team credit where it’s due. The sets, costumes, score and the visual effects were all superb and beats any show by a mile. I can tell a lot of passion and effort went into making the show look as great as it dose. And just because a coffee cup and a plastic water bottle was left in the shot doesn’t mean that the team stopped trying, but it’s the film makers who scan the footage over and over again to bring into question. The effort is seen on screen, yet the passion is heard in the behind the scenes making of each episode and how much of an honor to been given this opportunity.

    The cast were fantastic this season despite the material given to them. I can see the cast putting sweat and tears into every episode.

    Peter Dinklage is excellent as usual and in this season it isn’t any different. The scene in episode six ‘The Iron Throne’, where Tyrion finds Jamie and Cersei under neath the rubble - I thought Peter was truly brilliant and his breakdown was so heartbreaking. Unfortunately the writing for his character took a massive nose drive after they ran out of material from George R.R. Martin books and it got so much worst. Tyrion, a once intelligent character that took his dwarfism away from people perspective to instead judge him on his character in terms of his wise wit in a barbaric world, but now it comes down to idiotic jokes like “I’Ve GOt bALLs aNd yOu dOnT lOl”, and makes plenty of dumb decsisons that feels endless. He’s entire plan to convince his psychotic sister Cersei, which by the way she wants him dead and has lied many times before to be trusted, and yet he still believes she can change he own ways. Also, I find it absolutely annoying when Tyrion gets the opportunity to suggest who should be king despite being a prisoner and Grey Worm telling him to hush at the start, but doesn’t say a single word during the discussion. I guess the writers kinda forgot about Tyrion’s intelligence.

    Lena Headey was great this season even through she spent the entire season staring out of window drinking wine, which by the way she got top billing. Cersei has been pregnant for quite awhile now and not for a second dose it show. I guess the writers kinda forgot about that.

    I feel sorry for Kit Harington, as this show and his character made him who he is today - he never saw it as work. So it’s sad the writers turned Jon into a one note buffon that vomits awful dialogue like “yOu aRe MY qUeEn”, and “ i dOn’T wAnT IT”, or “i lOvE yOu”. With Jon coming back from the dead by the lord of light for a greater purpose that basically goes nowhere. The whole Targaryen thing and Jon being the rightful heir to throne also goes nowhere. I guess everyone kinda forgot about that.

    Jamie's entire character arc was completely wasted. The powerful scene in season three where Nikolaj Coster-Waldau delivers such a raw and devastating performance of a man with the weight on his shoulders over a situation that saved millions of lives, including women and children, but was heavily shamed for killing his king. In season 1, me and everyone loathed Jamie. His cockness mix with his despicable acts left a mark through out the show. However, saying Jamie has changed is a massive understatement - he’s almost a completely different person. A new man that’s been re-born after not only redeeming himself, but accepts his past and does what he feels is right. Well all that is gone with one line and a decision that’s so out of left field it makes no sense. “To be honest, I never really cared much for them. Innocent or otherwise”, and returns to Cersei despite disowning her in the last season. I also find it funny when you break down everything Jamie does this season. He leaves Cersei, travels to Winterfell, sleeps with Brienne, doesn’t like it, goes back to Cersei, and dies. I guess the writers kinda forgot about his character arc.    … Expand

    CONS: without a doubt the worst season of this show, with an absurd plot arc, anti-climatic conflict resolutions and a forgettable ending.

    The problem with this season isn't the ending but how rushed all events and actions are. This season could have had the same ending and be good if it wasn't rushed. Things just are lazy, twisted for impact value and out of logic. The cinematography is amazing.

    - The characters have plot armor thicker than the box office of Avengers Endgame.
    - Most importantly: It is nothing more than a tv movie CGI garbage fest at this point.
    Are there positives? Well, no. But the production team behind making the sets, costumes, music and CGI is to be commended. The attention to these aspects is still very impressive.

    I am profoundly disappointed in David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who are responsible for this terrible season. Shame on you. I give this season a 3/10. It is a terrible.    … Expand

    Game of Thrones would be remembered as the huge failure ending of a series ever with a lack of understanding of its characters and the writing quality of a bad fan-fiction. The weight of the success knocked down one of the biggest examples of epic on TV leaving a sensation of pointless after nine years expecting a great finale that never was.

    Overall, I loved the entire series. I am writing a review on season 8 because of all the negative press it received. I completed season 8 and had no major problems with it at all. I was disappointed in that it felt as if they cramped two seasons into one by combining the big fight against the dead and the big fight against Kings Landing. The dead war could have been season 8 by itself and Kings Landing season 9 by itself as well...not sure why the show had to suddenly stop after season 8. This compressing two seasons into one made for less character development, less compelling storylines, and less in the way of emotional involvement by the audience. There were many obvious death scenes but that itself does not create a good story. The richness of season 8 also led to too many instances where the viewer who lost some memory of events from previous seasons or dared elect to watch season 8 without watching the prior seasons would have lost many subtle nuances in dialogue and action. In other words, season 8 could not stand-alone and fully enjoyed without prior knowledge...this was most unfortunate given the massive media surrounding the season...I am sure many tuned in just out of curiosity but may have fallen off by the second or third episode of the season.

    There were also obvious attempts by the writers to challenge the audience by not taking the story where we all anticipated. They wanted to offer some surprises...Some worked and other did not...sometimes history (life) can imitate art but there are times art has to imitate history (life)...in the cases of the latter the storylines don't always end cleanly, characters don't always die in a blaze of glory, and the good guys don't always come out on top. The writers should have trusted the audience more and not have tried so hard to create the big surprise ending and instead been truer to what the story was in seasons 1 thru 7. Overall the series is a 10...season 8 as a stand-alone is an 8.

    Finally, the vitriol over the ending is totally unwarranted...there were hints that this was coming throughout the series...we (me included) all just got lost in the spectacle of the other two charterers (whom I shall not name) as the hero and heroine of the series and overlooked the rest.    … Expand

This season was by far the biggest letdown for otherwise one of the best television shows of all time, ranking up with the likes of The Soprano's. Season 8 completely gave up on itself with each character making decisions, and doing things that made no sense because these writers had completely lost it. All supernatural aspects of the show were completely forgotten or did not matter, with Bran going into the past and confirming that Jon was Aegon even though in the end it did not affect the show at all. Had Jon not been Aegon the ending would still be the same as him being an heir to the throne did not matter. Also when Tyrion chose Bran to be king how did he know Bran was the three eyed raven, and does Tyrion even understand what that means. From my perspective no characters even know who or what the three eyed raven is except for Arya and Sansa, but even they along with Bran hardly know what this means. How then when Tyrion mentions should this resonate with the other lords of Westeros because they do not know what that even means or why that should matter.… Expand

    It was rushed. Three eyed raven? Why was actualy Jon a Targaryen? Nightking killed with reused content (dagger was used by killing walder frey and the trick was used with the sparing fight with Brienne of Tarth) It's a nightmare. The long night, was too dark, the bitrate and the codec killed it. How could this happen??    … Expand

Many of the show's other strengths — production design, the score, a lot of the acting, the visual effects, the cinematography, some of the directing — continue on formidably. But the interiority of these characters and their relationship to a complex and changing story world has been sorely neglected. It's staggering that a show with every luxury in terms of budget, time, and talent could choose with such hubris to spurn its origins. Daenerys is the hardest hit by this, presented in the end like a two-dimensional cardboard cutout rushed from complex protagonist to antagonist/villain in an episode and a half. Foreshadowing is not story or character development. Foreshadowing sows the seeds of character development, and with Daenerys, we needed to see the "good" seeds wither and the seeds of the "bad" flourishing before we could really see and understand her trajectory. Good tragedy can be tremendously cathartic and satisfying if we see the sheer inevitability of where people end up, as the product of their own decisions and those around them. Dany's arc could have been an epically tragic one, but that opportunity was squandered. We could be debating the choice to make this the end point — because choosing to have two "mad queens" consumed by power and greed while a bunch of men are presented as the moral compasses of the show, and the only ones worthy of wielding power, could be troublesome. But we can't even sufficiently do that because the exposition of that journey was so purely executed. That's to say nothing of all the interesting and profoundly relevant themes that the show has raised over the years, and which seasons seven and eight have treated with scant regard. We already knew war was hell. We knew people were flawed, often tragically. We knew this was not a happy ending story. So the only thing that makes the journey worthwhile (for those who still think story trumps spectacle) is seeing how those characters struggle with themselves, with each other, with their environments before they commit to the courses that lead them to their final destinations. Inadequate time was spent setting that up. That, unfortunately, will be the show's legacy. Doing full orders of seasons seven and eight at 10 episodes a season may have gone a long way to keeping the show coherent. But, unfortunately, it betrayed itself — and us.… Expand

The follow none of what made them who they are throughout the seven seasons. Some dropping all morals all together for revenge and other murdering loved ones for no reason given. Then the fact everyone somehow forgot who Jon is in the end made no sense. They opened up a story about him which would of been better left unknown to try and create some conflict. Which this was very generic and the reactions expected. The battle with the white walkers episode was so poorly lit and to take a word from Howard Stern on this “Even porn directors mastered lighting effects on set” In the end you want to watch this series, I would suggest watching up until season 7 and even then that’s questionable in some episodes. What hbo did to this story and the writers is deplorable. Then to have actors defend this garbage is laughable. Own up to the failure you know it is instead of defending like you made it so important. Trust me if people liked your character and you then they may not so much now.… Expand

The acting and production values remain as good as ever but the writing, which has steadily declined in quality since the show outpaced the books, takes a bigger nosedive than I could ever have imagined possible. Rumour has it that lead writers Benioff and Weiss chose to wrap the series up with this six episode final season despite HBO essentially giving them free reign to keep the series on air for as long as they wanted. Whatever the motivation for this decision (and rumour is they wanted to move on and take a big money offer from Disney to write the next Star Wars movie(s)) the result is an incredibly rushed finale full of plot holes and terrible character decisions and the list of issues is virtually endless...

    The entire battle with the Night King for example, a threat that has been looming over the show since the pilot, lasts just one episode and we never find out anything new regarding his motivations. Daenerys suddenly goes from conqueror to committing genocide (for absolutely no reason), Jamie Lannister’s whole redemption arch is undone in the space of two minutes, Bran’s whole journey to become the Three Eyed Raven serves no purpose in any of the major battles... I could go on but you get the point!

    Let’s hope George RR Martin finally gets around to finishing the books and does a much better job of sticking the landing than this show managed.    … Expand

    Agree with consensus it's the biggest best show of its time (despite HBO's typically lurid, salaciously depraved thumbprint further debasing the culture) with all seasons through the last rating between 9 and 10 here, but this final season is clearly a major disappointment missing the tremendous narrative craft so expertly executed previously. They blew it!

The writers D & D (Dumb & Dumber) obviously lost motivation in the writing department (and/or were exposed to not be that good since the source material ran out) and just started relying on CGI.     The writers D & D (Dumb & Dumber) obviously lost motivation in the writing department (and/or were exposed to not be that good since the source material ran out) and just started relying on CGI.

    How they thought all of this would be satisfactory stinks of complacency and arrogance.

    An absolute disservice to the material and the fan base..

    Still shocking, awesome twists, set pieces and huge battles/duels. Many do hope for something else and give it a poor rating because of it, their loss!!

    GoT is still the most spectacular TV program to be produced to date. Despite all the crybabies.

    As someone who loved season six and felt that season seven was the most epic TV season in existence, I do understand why fans are somewhat disappointed with Season 8. It isn't as gritty, feels a bit too rushed, and some of the lines feel cheesy. The long night was too dark and short, and that    GoT is still the most spectacular TV program to be produced to date. Despite all the crybabies.

    As someone who loved season six and felt that season seven was the most epic TV season in existence, I do understand why fans are somewhat disappointed with Season 8. It isn't as gritty, feels a bit too rushed, and some of the lines feel cheesy. The long night was too dark and short, and that is really the biggest mistake of the season.

They shouldve gone for 10 seasons , without plot armor , stupid episode 3 tactics , subverting expectations for the sake of it and care more about characters and story instead of good camera angles.. this aint xmen .. its game of thrones.. now it became just another generic awfull americanised movie likeTerrible generic and completely unrealistic.     Westeros is shrinking to two venues, Winterfell and Kings'Landing. The drama and battle for the Iron Throne does not find a well-, or intelligent climax in the last episode.

    Another or longer episode, which takes more time, would have been worthy of Game of Thrones. Here is really questionable why those responsible have finished the series quick like that.

    Compared to previous seasons, this was just done in a hurry. You could tell the writers did not want to spend any more time with it. Many seasons spent on the slow growth of characters and theirs stories was just sent to the trash with an extreme makeover of almost everyone and everything. The worst kind of ending that is possible.

It is the competing loyalties, the loves and enmities that enmesh the Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and the rest, after all, and the questions Game of Thrones poses about conscience and corruption and the manifestations of power, that will propel us through to the end.

    As in season 7, the big problem with “Winterfell”—the reason it felt more like an unlucky videographer’s rendering of an exceptionally dysfunctional family reunion than like a carefully crafted story—was the pacing.

    The show has stepped up its pacing. For the most part, that has been immensely satisfying, yielding crowd-pleasing moments that the and that the series generally avoided in the often-grim journey, especially for the Stark kids, which has led to this point.
