    The directors cut, with them talking about their perspective actually tells a lot about the misplaced priorities. They speak at length about using the 'ground perspective' while shooting the episode 'Bells'. Really!! Does the perspective matter if your entire plotline has gone down the tube?

    Very mediocre writing. It's like GRRM gave them the major plot points and they slapped them into a script with as little thought as possible. Genuinely very sad for a great series to end this way.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 8 had some bright spots, but it was mostly cloudy with a change of Dragon Fire. Positives: Acting by Peter Dinklage is wonderful. Apart from a few stupid moments, rearranging chairs, and one lines that fall flat...he does a great job of being Tyrian. Negatives: Dark, poor story line, quick pace, and writing. The show not what it used to be.

    Glad it's over, but still not sure how I feel about the way it played out.

    I hope George RR Martin finishes the books and we can get what we want out of the books. A precise, story that makes sense, creates emotion, and we beg for it not to end.    … Expand

    The series finale brings a disappointing and anti-climactic conclusion to a forever cherished television series. This season is both depressing and infuriating. A television show that took the world by storm goes out with a whimper.

    All the hype for nothing.

    So sad that the writing this season is so bad. 10/10 to the actors and production team.

What made the series so good for me was because you always had expect the unexpected, so I guess in a way the final episode did just that. There was far to many episodes in this series that let it down. The end of the war with the white walkers was done in one episode so far to quick. It was a clearly one sided battle to the extent that it was embarrassing and unbelievable! A similar rant could be aimed at episode 7 which had similar characteristics. The deaths of the two hated Lanisters ended with them both being crushed to death under a pile of rubble when the whole world were guessing which main character would put them to the sword. In the end we were left with most of the main cast still standing after most of the world was wondering how many would be left.

    The visuals, music and actors are all very good as always. However, the writing (dialog, story, character development, character actions, continuity, motives) is down the drain, making it impossible to suspend your disbelief anymore. I'm just staring at the screen, wondering why things are proceeding as they are.

    Sometimes I stop and try to think of ways the showrunners could have ruined Game of Thrones more than they did in this season. Somehow, I can never, ever find an answer for that.

And they could have had the money and time to finish it properly: HBO wanted more seasons, D&D didn't and demanded a short season 7 & 8. All the gritty realism and believable fighting has been tossed out the window in exchange for the same old badly written fantasy trope with Gary Stu and Mary Sue on full display. It's as if Weiss and Benioff took the best fan fiction mailed to them and wrote it into the story. I'm through with this young adult bubble gum fantasy. I can only hope GRRM is writing the new spin-off that takes place in the past since there's little chance of finishing the books before he's dead.… Expand

    What did the White Walkers really want? What were they doing in those thousands of years beyond the Wall? Why was the Night King turning human babies into White Walkers? What was the deal with the symbols they left everywhere? I guess Game of Thrones’s final answer is: Who cares? They’re all dead now. On to the Iron Throne.

    This is so depressing. All the negative reviews are correct. This season has been a disaster. Amateurs have crept into the master's kitchen. They have destroyed the legacy of a great series. Maybe someone will remake the final season in the future. :(

    I haven't seen the whole season, but after episode 3, it is over. I am not interested anymore. I would rather wait for G Martin to finish his work and make sense to all this mess.

    Episode 2 of season 8 was where I finally admitted what I had been reluctant to accept, this show has had a steep decline in the last two seasons. Hopefully they can turn it around with the big finish, but the good characters are either dead or emasculated, replaced by a bunch of boring "strong women".     8th Season is waste of time. Most thoughtless script ever. Previous 6 seasons from the first were full of tricks and plot (7th were good too). But 8th... I have no words. How could they spend 2 years on this?

Because it all ended with the eternal winter of the spotless mind. If you remember The Lost and it's ending, then this seems to be even worse.     Benioff and Weiss were always mediocre writers, but for the final season of a tv show based on the greatest books ever written, it was obvious they weren't even going to try any more. This entire season felt like it had been written in an afternoon and throwing money at effects doesn't change that.

    Compared to previous seasons, this was just done in a hurry. You could tell the writers did not want to spend any more time with it. Many seasons spent on the slow growth of characters and theirs stories was just sent to the trash with an extreme makeover of almost everyone and everything. The worst kind of ending that is possible.

This is no easy feat, i've been a fan of GOT for a long long time. Ninja Aria can fly. The Night King has no tactics or strategy what so ever, and his undead army/generals are truly brainless zombies. i still don't understand how aria got past the undead horde.. This episode had so many conveniences for plot, and the actors seemed almost uninterested in their roles. The camera was shaky and the screen was dark. i could barely tell what was going on. this show used to have so much attention to detail. this seemed rushed. The conversation probably went like this "how can we fit this list of stuff into an episode?"… Expand

    The dialogues and reunions in the first episode were disappointing and lackluster, characters were butchered(Tyrion mostly) and sometimes it felt like some actors even forgot how to play their roles or even act.First episode was therefore mostly wasted.

    The second episode was better but still didn't live up to the expectations, although the group infront of the fire which included Davos Tyrion Jaime Podrick Tormund and Brienne was brilliant and vibrant.
    This part contains few "spoilers" but you are probably reading this after watching the series.
    And let's not get started on the third episode which was full with the most illogical and absurd tactics when the people who sat at the war table were veterans and tacticians of all the wars that happened in all seasons(like why did they charge the Dothraki into the obscure battlefield where they got swarmed and slaughtered , why did they put the siege weapons infront of the soldiers instead of behind them or inside the castle where they can still be fired (i know why, cause of budget) , why were there practically no archers, why was the fire trench only two meters(or less) wide and one meter deep, why did they send all of the army to fight outside and we can go on and on).
    On top of much wasted potential like literally no fights between white walkers and valyrian steel swords holders, no fight between Jon and the night king with Jon being almost useless the whole battle, the night king being killed in a more epic way using a twist or Melisandre power(who was useless and brought back for nothing except lighting swords of the Dorthraki who died in vain anyway) instead of being killed by Arya who somehow managed to sneak past hundreds of wights and a dozen white walkers to jump on the night king from the back.
    Add to that the plot armor that has been given to 8 characters who ,fighting alone, managed to stay alive and Withstand against thousands of wights who swarmed them but never tried to stab anyone.
    All in all this has been a very anticlimactic season especially the third episode (and even more its ending and the ending of the 8 seasons long white walkers story arc, the arc that started since the very first minutes of the first episode aka the real thread as said in the series) with many countless missed opportunities or twists. I can honestly point more negative things about this season (or the last two or three seasons for that matter) but the other negative reviews did the job.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've loved GoT since the start. The interweaving and comeplling storyline, the complex characters, the attention to detail, and the brutal way it dealt with major characters - the sense that no-one was safe. All wonderful.

    Some fans have not been as positive about the later series, but I have been, and up to and including S8E2 I was more than happy. Indeed, S8E2 itself was a masterpiece in stage-setting. We had waited 8 years for this moment, the build up to the long night, we were told "winter was coming" and we knew it would be terrible when it came.

    The first ten minutes of S8E3 started setting up the sense of impending doom. Ok, the battle plan of putting the men outside the wall and infront of the wall defences looked absurd, but I was just letting that go as part of the drama. The Red Priestess lighting all the Dothraki weapons, that caused a frisson of excitement. Their charge (stupid as that would be as a battle tactic in this scenario) was chilling when it failed. And the waves upon waves of undead, they really told us just how bad the sitation was.

    But after this, the episode went downhill and quickly. Despite being overwhelmed, and despite hundreds, nay thousands of deaths of trained soldiers, it seemed if you were a "named" character, with only a couple of exceptions, it was actually impossible to die - no matter how bad your situation got. Surrounded by 30 undead? Survive. On the ground with undead on top of you? Survive. Our heroes outside on the ground... Arya, Jaime, Brienne, Sam, Tormund, Sandor... had plot armour so thick it became just too unbelievable.

    But when the undead in the crypt woke up, what happened there was even more ridiculous. Not a single named character in the crypt, Sansa, Tyrion, Gilly, Little-Sam, Missande, Varys... was harmed, although most of the rest were massacred. It felt like a Hollywood movie, and not in a good way - Game of Thrones had lost what made it special: now, if you were a known character, you were pretty much safe from anything. Just two long term regular characters (Theon and Jorah) had epic death sequences, but the rest were indestructible - in situations where pretty much everyone else dies.

    And then came that ending. We have had seven and half series of detailed foreshdowing and plot development. Everything building up to one of many possible variations of a set of endings which would fit such a wonderful plotline. And the producers threw all that out of the window because they wanted to "surprise" us, and it didn't matter if it didn't really make any sense. Jon and Bran, the centres of the White Walker storyline, pretty much did nothing at all in that battle - and a character that has had absolutely NOTHING to do with the dead storyline, a teenage girl assassin (who I loved when I saw her killing the Frays, that was done so extremely well), does a cheap dagger drop and kills the most powerful evil in the realm for the last 8000 years with one dagger stab - and the rest of the dead army just die.

    What a let down. It all feels so pointless.

    This season is the worst. Since season 6 it is not game of thrones anymore. The writers have wasted one of the best fantasy book adapted to a series. This is a shame. They should have waited the end of the books if they were not able to make any sense writing the rest. The showrunners gave up on following the spirit of this epic story long ago and should have passed it on to someone with the passion to continue it properly. If you are a non reader then you may enjoy the visuals but, the plot is abysmal. If you want to understand the process I believe if you just look at any instance this season and ask yourself "What is the easiest way to wrap up this issue." You will understand D&D's process. Lazy, trope filled, writing while undoing all previous character building until most are unrecognizable shells of their former self. "The Long Night" while action packed remains as nonsensible as season 7 finale. Plot armor will astound. We need a proper animated series not unlike the bluray extras by proper fans of this series who respect the author and his epic saga. Be ready for D&D's Star Wars **** show next in the years to come. I hope they are exposed for the hacks they are. Forgive the salt, but I read the books and have more in mind for what the show represents, so I am very disappointed with the direction GoT has taken.     Worst season ever! Most scenes doesn't make any sense. I thought episode 3 was bad, boy was I wrong; by comparison, episode 5 made episode 3 oscar worthy. Not hoping much for ep 6.

    Can't imagine which word to use....lame? Or tame?
    Whatever, but HBO carried the best show for 7 seasons and then fumbled it in the eighth.
    Hope there's a 9th and hope GRRM writes it.
    Please sign the petition. It's a part of our modern lore now...can't be allowed to go off with a whimper!
    Some points that need to be reviewed, if there is a remake:
    1. Night King, identity, dismal anticlimactic ending.
    2. Cersei, anticlimactic ending. Jaime, uncharacteristic finale.
    3. Battle with dead, invisible, mainly.
    4. Euron Greyjoy, why is he even there?
    5. Daenerys, anticlimactic end after a total senseless character development.
    6. Jon, take the black, again???
    7. Bran, What happened to the three eyed Raven storyline?? What happened to the time travel stuff?
    8. Bron, anticlimax, with bad joke.
    9. Stop rushing, stop giving obvious answers
    10. PLEASE bring back GRRM.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disappointing. First two episodes went so slow, then they defeated a villain who has been hyped up for 7 seasons in one episode. This season was rushed and contained many plot holes such as several prophecies from the books that made it into the show were suddenly ignored in season 8. Episode 5 "The Bells" was the worst episode of GOT I have ever witnessed. They spent years showing how Dany was compassionate (D&D even in an analysis of one GOT episode that Dany wasn't her father) just to make her ruthless and brutal in the last two episodes so they could off her and have an 'edgy' show ending. Complete opposite of her character arc. Also with character development, they developed Jon Snow to be this honorable noble guy, who then kills his lover? Jon wouldn't do that let's be honest. Seemed like a crap way to fulfill the azor ahai prophecy (which was CLEARLY about the white walkers). The literal least likely to get the iron throne, was bloody Bran. WTF. He himself said he isn't even human anymore. Ending was rushed and made no sense, seemed likely they didn't care and wanted to move on.… Expand

    The premiere pulled everyone and everything together; it was, for the most part, an almost nostalgic hour. ... It is the competing loyalties, the loves and enmities that enmesh the Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and the rest, after all, and the questions Game of Thrones poses about conscience and corruption and the manifestations of power, that will propel us through to the end.

    As in season 7, the big problem with “Winterfell”—the reason it felt more like an unlucky videographer’s rendering of an exceptionally dysfunctional family reunion than like a carefully crafted story—was the pacing.

    The show has stepped up its pacing. For the most part, that has been immensely satisfying, yielding crowd-pleasing moments that the and that the series generally avoided in the often-grim journey, especially for the Stark kids, which has led to this point.
