After the third season I read every book in A Song of Ice and Fire, simply devoured them. Season 7 was an almost complete let down with plot holes/time shifts so consequential It took me right out of the narrative. Episode 1 of Season 8 continued Season 7's practice of depriving us all of the emotional resonance these character reunions should have had. Every character is getting the short shift, all the actors promise this season will "blow our minds", Maisie said "she loved the reunion scene with Jon", when all I saw was 3 minutes of meh. I only like Game Of Thrones tv show now, but I used to love it. Expand

Everyone and their mother could argue for eternity, and none of us would be right or wrong, besides a few things that are simply not up to debate - GoT has probably the best production of any piece of entertainment on TV ever, and it was brought to you by extremely talented people both in front and behind the camera - in the end what matters is whether you enjoyed it or not. That said, try to be a little bit objective and please refrain from acting as if you're entitled to anything more than what you've got. If you hated it, all I can say is that I'm sorry. I sincerely hope you find something that makes you care this much in the future.

I personally consider the first 3 (maybe 4) seasons of this show gold. The rest doesn't really compare. I've been off the bandwagon for a while, but I did find each and every following season incredibly entertaining. The same with this finale. I enjoyed it. Season 8 had many low points, and quite a few soaring highs as well. Overall, what really bothers me is that these last few seasons shouldn't have become shorter, but longer. A 10 episode season with 90 minutes each might just have been the ticket. Alas, it is a shame. For whatever reason that just did not happen, and we have to accept that fact and move on.

G.R.R. Martin was right. It is a bittersweet goodbye, but a fond farewell nonetheless.

Seasons 1-4 were fantastic and Seasons 5-7 were filled with great, memorable episodes that were of such high quality that it was enough to carry their respective seasons.

However, this Season 8 abomination is just booty. I had much more typed up, but I think the word 'booty' perfectly describes it. Thanks for your time, The Sentient Pen

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a **** stupid ending. Before the last episode, the season stood at an 8, which is low for Game of Thrones (usually a 9 or 10) but that stupid ending killed it for me. What a bloody joke. Once Daenerys was stabbed, I actually burst out laughing, and when the DRAGON decided to ignore Jon and burn a throne he had never seen before, it became full-on hysteria. The rest of the episode just served as comic relief in varying degrees. Felt like I was watching a parody of Game of Thrones. Disgrace. Signing that petition doesn't sound so bad now. 5/10 Expand

Watching this season, while the events follow each other quickly in a superficial way, without explanation, without in-depth analysis, and the characters turn into puppets moved by hands that are too hasty, we understand that whoever adapted Martin's story wanted to finish the job at all costs .

It doesn't matter if Martin spent more than 30 years thinking and writing a story full of details. The television business has its times, and the quality is too expensive in this world, more than all the special effects and actors have cost.

While Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” ends on a satisfying note, it is much more loosely plotted than its previous seasons. This allows for some spectacular moments, but also leaves space open for inconsistent writing by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. By hiring a third writer, the season could have been more polished and impactful than the end product received.

GOT: Season 8 is the weakest season of the show for sure, since it felt extremely rushed and at times nonsensical. The writing was at times horrendous, even though there were a few moments that honestly were well-done. But, it mostly seemed rushed and all over the place, which is a shame. Some characters were well-developed, but others had such a poor character development that many times it seemed undeserved how their character turned out to become to. The plot armor was so absurd at many instances, diminishing the overall tension. This season definitely needed to have 10 episodes so the events could be explained more thoroughly and sensibly, because 6 episodes were not enough at all for this season. But the redeeming qualities of this season are the outstanding visuals, acting and direction, and all of these things made the season more tolerable than it would've been without them. I rated it so low previously probably because I was comparing this season with the other ones too much, and maybe that's kind of unfair. The season on its own isn't so awful, but it's still a huge disappointment. Although the ending was mediocre, I still accept it as it is. This ending was heart-breaking both in the sense that it was disappointing and that the show has finally ended, after all of that hardship and drama.

It is still somewhat entertaining if you've invested yourself into the world and character, but every scene is lazily strung together, contradicting itself and forcing moments they think the fans want to see. Clearly the high fantasy and in depth politics were just too grand for the show-runners to accomplish without a full guideline and story to adapt from the books. It's harsh to say, but they truly have wasted the potential of a great Game of Thrones adaption and have ruined most of the long awaited moments, especially the White Walker confrontation, as they clearly didn't have the talent or ability to pull off the grander prophecies and intricate structures, subtexts or foreshadowing that George Martin put so much time into, and which they even established in the early seasons. It is such a shame that so much work and build up has come to so many storyline conclusions that meant nothing and were unjustified. Dan and Dave continue to say in interviews that they make decisions because they want to shock us, but they constantly do this at the expense of all logical and satisfying storytelling. It has become amateurish and childish, wasting everything that long time fans were hoping for and have betrayed everything that the books stood for, being fantasy subversion. It is now a lifeless, illogical and vapid husk of what A Song of Ice and Fire started over 20 years ago. Expand

It is the competing loyalties, the loves and enmities that enmesh the Lannisters, Starks, Targaryens and the rest, after all, and the questions Game of Thrones poses about conscience and corruption and the manifestations of power, that will propel us through to the end.
