    I was afraid the show had run out of steam... not yet! Episode 4 delivers! I actually shed tears of epicness! I'm impressed with the moral depth and sophistication of the show, and that it can supply so many layers to keep a full range of people entertained.

    I just finished watching episode 4 and must now ask: Has Game of Thrones ever been so good? It's hard for me to say because this is the first season I didn't know most of what was going to happen (having read the books and the show now surpassing them). So for me, I think so far, yes.

    Each episode this season has shocked me, thrilled me, made my heart bleed, changed the 'game' in    I just finished watching episode 4 and must now ask: Has Game of Thrones ever been so good? It's hard for me to say because this is the first season I didn't know most of what was going to happen (having read the books and the show now surpassing them). So for me, I think so far, yes.

    Each episode this season has shocked me, thrilled me, made my heart bleed, changed the 'game' in drastic ways; and make me love and hate characters and love to hate characters and love to love characters all at once. Or love/hate them more. Or just hate. /Stare Ramsey. We thought Joffrey was bad? Seven hells.

    I think the GoT and HBO teams have really got this season nailed down. The worst part of every episode is when the credits roll and another week of waiting begins. Unlike last season, the *major,* end-game storylines are coalescing at a rapid pace that was missing in parts of books 4 and 5 (and season 5), into something none of us can possibly predict. In other words, it's heading towards its conclusion. And given what we know and what we guess, it's going to be one hell of an ending, whether any of the fan theories are right or not (I try to stay away from fan book/show theories).

    Spoilers start here. Don't tread further.
    -The first episode served as most GoT (and any show's) first episode does, reestablishing where everyone is and what's happening with them. Despite this, it did a much better job over the Season 5 'character catch-up' because it didn't feel like a catch-up episode, but rather a continuation of the story in the last moments of Season 5-- they managed to catch us up while still having very significant things happen within the episode, things that felt organic while catching us up.
    -Seeing the backstory with Lyanna and Ned is great. It's interesting that Ned has allowed a rumor about killing the Sword of the Morning. If you believe a popular theory (to which these flashbacks are leading up to)-- well, for one, we'll finally get an answer that was asked in season 1, episode 1; but also, we find that Ned's not quite as honorable as he seems if he let the rumor fly (though I may be forgetting a time he attempted to dispell the rumor?).
    -Tyrion, in the dungeon with the dragons-- wow. Brilliant, and I can't wait to see where that relationship with Tyrion and the dragons is taken.
    -The last moment of episode 2, while predictable, was also great. I like that they didn't just throw the answer at us immediately. I like that Mellisandra struggled with her faith and it had to be Davos to prod her to try what she didn't believe she could do.In her moment of struggling for faith, while we've already been told she's seen Jon in the Winterfell fighting. We silently root her on while we wait for her to agonize over whether to try the revival.
    -Sealing Olly's fate was tragic when considering the arc of his story. Allister, while wrong, "died an honorable death" in the end.
    -The end of episode 4 was nearly as powerful as the end of season 1 when her dragons emerged from the flames with her; and the scene certainly mirrored and paid tribute to that earlier scene, completely in the context of the Dothraki. What an amazing moment, 180, for a storyline that was starting to feel stagnant. In book and show, you begin to wonder just how competent Dany is once she's trying to juggle 3 kingdoms and make a plan for invading Westeros. But she once again showed us, like she did with the masters of the Unsullied, that she is unflinching, if calculated, on her road to what she believes is her fate (now with our favorite Little Person trailing along).
    -But Dany, just wow. She killed the Khal, making her the new Khal; she killed every Khal in that tent, making her one of the most powerful Khals in known GoT history.
    -From what I understood, Arya's scene to mean that going to the fountain will kill anyone (obviously) who drinks from it, but not kill someone who is "nobody". It begs the question: What if she'd been faking and was still Arya (she still has the buried sword, Needle, after all).
    -In general: Wow. 4 unimpeachably amazing episodes in a row; not that ‪‎Game of Thrones‬ hasn't accomplished this before, but most of the best episodes are saved for last. Can't wait to see what that means for the rest of the season.

    -Speculation: Is Shaggydog dead? We know Rickon's a little nutty; Ramsey mentions in the letter. Is this part of another Stark power we have yet to see?
    Book Spoiler: Nymeria is confirmed alive
    Conclusion: Anyone paying close enough attention knows that we're suddenly hurtling toward the conclusions of these several storylines that are about to collide.
    -The Knights of the Vale (sworn to the Vale Prince Robin and now "uncle" Peter now reside) are finally doing something after an entire book series of doing almost literally nothing. Heading to the wall-- to what end, Peytr?
    -Snow heading to Winterfell with Wildlings; Peter meets up on the

    This season is much better than season 5 was from the start.

    The subplots finally feel as though they're moving towards something concrete. The Sansa/Jon, Ramsay, Bran, Tyrion, and surprisingly enough, even the Dany subplots are substantial.

We have all become accustomed to sudden, unexpected deaths, treacherous plotting and the general bleak, grittiness of the universe by now, stretched over several years -- it's hard to sustain.

    Season six so far struggles to seed multiple story branches with enough weight to justify a forthcoming, inevitable intersection of characters and plots. It appears to be converging, but I reserve judgment. As a result there have been multiple montages already, shorter time with certain locations, a coincidental change in rulership across multiple kingdoms and less character development. It feels more "manufactured" than I remember; the weight of fan expectation taking a toll.

    There is a lot to juggle, and it's hard to know how it could better balance the various elements while continuing to deliver the unexpected. My understanding is, each episode currently sits at $10 million plus to make, so it is an expensive and stressful gamble that hopefully pays off for the majority of us.

    I will continue to watch -- it is still compelling viewing.    … Expand

Was anyone surprised Snow would resurrect. What did he see in the afterworld. "Just, nothing." Woow, booorring! Was anyone surprised Bolton would be stabbed by his own bastard.     Since Martin isn't the best writer around--the fans figured out how this thing ends a long, long time ago. I don't blame the guy for not wanting to finish writing the books. Why would he? The fans have already finished writing them for him. There are no surprises left in Westeros. That being said--it's still a well produced and acted TV show.

    Way better than some beginnings of other seasons. People complain it's boring but I found it quite good as it showed us where we've left season 5. This is not such a bad idea in my opinion. After watching the 2 last episodes, I didn't find the lack of action like in S05 for instance. The plot is fine too except for Daenerys POV. It seems like she will stay forever in Essos. First time in aWay better than some beginnings of other seasons. People complain it's boring but I found it quite good as it showed us where we've left season 5. This is not such a bad idea in my opinion. After watching the 2 last episodes, I didn't find the lack of action like in S05 for instance. The plot is fine too except for Daenerys POV.     For all the negative user reviewers that say this episode is "incredibly boring" and "nothing happens".... GET OVER YOURSELF. This was a fine episode that did a great job of re-introducing us to the many complex story lines of GoT and offering just enough extra story to get us even more excited for the rest of the season.

    How is the review for this season so low. The last two episodes have be epic!! SHAME for the Critics! SHAME! Always love the characters and every episode has me thinking whats going to happen next.

    Apart from season 1, this has been, so far, the best season of GoT for me. Most annoying characters are either dead or are no longer in position of absolute power and now the endgame is finally starting to take shape.

    I really hate the way this season has seen judged by one episode. Feels like critics and fans are hating it just to hate it, but maybe thy don't know what is about to happen this season. I have a feeling episode 3 is going to blow people out of the water with the Tower of Joy, To me, these first 2 episodes are better than season 5's were, and although it may not have a Hardhome, I thinkI really hate the way this season has seen judged by one episode. Feels like critics and fans are hating it just to hate it, but maybe thy don't know what is about to happen this season.     Jon is back, back again, john is back, tell a friend.
    The tension and plot points bioling in this season are perhaps the best yet!

    The inevitable reunion of John and Sansa, and the inevitable war between them and Ramsey will make for some excellent action.

    The turning of King Tommon from a scared boy to a monster under him moms bidding

    The conflict between the Lannisters (with Tywin out of the way) and the Martell's will surely make for some craftey bloodshed

    Bran being back in action doing his thing could be cool

    Sansa out for revenge now backed by Wildlings, Nightswatch, and Breanna will be sure to make for some tasty vengeance.

    Tyrion ruling the kingdom and showing what he is capable of will make us all fall more in love with him

    Ramsey assending to Lord will make for a great new Character to hate

    Winter is coming **** and there will be enough Snow to go around (get it)

    I have never seen a season with such potential and I am excited for whats in store.    … Expand

    the second episode is Amazing, and i can't wait for the next one :) so now i think it gone a have a real battle in WF meybe the 3 Ep or the 4 Ep .
    so this season it complet and a lot of People who will Die so we have to wait and appreciate^^

    Bad reviews after one episode skew the rating for future dude. Episode 2 was great so this is the rating I'm throwing on here. I suppose giving it a 10 after two episodes is just as bad?

    Ummm 7.6???? 73??? WHAT???? I hope the score goes up because so far this season is one of the best. I just watched episode 2, Bran and Hodor is back, the Greyjoys in the Iron islands return. Tyrion releases the dragons, Flashbacks, Ramsey is an evil bastard and the ending is fantastic. I danced for 20 minutes after the episode finished.     First review for episode 2: Fantastic!, That hands down is my favourite episode I have ever seen and there were 3 massive moments in this episode. Can't say too much for spoilers but this was 10x better than episode 1 of this season.This for me is better than even Hardhome

    Nothing is really wrong, per se, but just a little bit off. This whiff continues to grow with each episode since they introduced the Spain, sorry, Dorne timeline last season. No great monologues, witty insights, one liners - ok there are one liners, but that's all there seems to be these days. Gone are the days of spending 15 minutes with Jamie and Brienne in a sauna waxing lyrical on legacy.

    Unfortunately, without Martin's books to quote directly from, the dialogue is cringe worthy at times. I am no expert, but I have seen seasons 1-3 about 5 times and the rest at least a couple. I also read the books (I admit I skimmed some points of views, but I got the gist) and noticed some dialogue was verbatim in the show.

    I hope they sort out this cheesy dialogue problem and start allowing stories to breathe again, and relationships to build. They have killed off everyone I really liked, except of course Tyrion, so at least develop some interest in the remaining bozos. If they carry on like this soap opera, bouncing from on location to the next, I will honestly cry.    … Expand

Having read the books, it's impossible not to be disappointed, the show has been great for the first 4 seasons, some times even improved on some of the material the books gave us, but last season was a complete mess and this episode makes me believe season 6 won't be much better. The 1st episode was, for the most of it, really slow, the complete destruction of the Dorne plotline and the subversion of its characters was outrageous, Daenerys' destiny is much different from what the 5th book makes us believe will be. There she shows up in front of the Dothrakis as a champion, here she's nothing but a slave... the quantity of stuff they just outright removed from the books is appalling.
    The only reason I won't give a 0 to this episode is the final scene. Even though it's not present in the books, nothing there contradicts its possibility and it was a nice tweak, although I thin there was no necessity for the character to get fully undressed in the cold winter of the wall just for the sake of shocking the audience...
    Waiting to see how the show will approach the iron islands and old town plotline, but I'll keep my hopes low.    … Expand

    Not really here to give a rating. Solely to mention that it is absolutely ridiculous that these 'season' ratings appear. As they are only reviews of the season premiere. Put season reviews only in there or make a review-section of episodes I don't know. Not a butthurt GOT-fan just something that generally annoys me.

The first episode of the sixth season serves as a way to resolve most of last season cliffhangers. Great segments in The North, dull inside and out of Mereen. I've read the books and I know the show has had to do some changes, many of them I'veI don't get how season 5 was so praised by critics. It was the weakest one, with outstanding 'Hardhome' among lousy and rushed storytelling. The first episode of the sixth season serves as a way to resolve most of last season cliffhangers. Great segments in The North, dull inside and out of Mereen. I've read the books and I know the show has had to do some changes, many of them I've accepted and even praised. New ideas for different media. But what they did with Dorne is beyond embarrassing, a wasted opportunity and a big mistake not only for book readers, also as a TV script alone. Overall in the episode, some dialogue is poor and it feels the story relies only on the strength of each character. The best of it, is that you can feel there's a lot coming up and they are just setting up for a wild season. Let's hope they manage to do it the way they did in their best episodes.… Expand

    Just remember these reviews from critics can vary on episode... most reviews being a one episode review... so don't ever take much stock in TV reviews. This episode was awesome, it had everything you would want from a GoT episode. Oh no... the Sand Snakes... They are awesome too... get over yourself.

It appears this season will need a few more episodes to really get going. So maybe once the 4th episodes airs you should go back and watch from episode one to be able to really get a verdict.     In the first episode there is a scene where Sansa does a silly vow to Brienne, when she is in the middle of a blizzard and just jumped into freezing water. Later there is cliche dialogue, among you guessed it, the sand snakes. Dialogue among characters was almost unbearable at times in the first episode.

    From what I saw. This season did not deserve such a significant drop in the ratings. I feel that it should at least be in the low 80s in terms of its score. But I guess saying that doesn't really matter.

    I really thought that this episode showed the series' potential for the rest of the season. It started out with engaging plot developments.     Doran Martell's story arch was completely POINTLESS in the show. No one even batted an eye when he died in the first episode, cause nobody had nor the time or want to get to know him.

    I might forgive it if it was some boring character but this is **** DORAN MARTELL. Tywin Lannister was SCARED of this guy (in the books)! He is THE MASTER PLANNER - he gives Littlefinger a run for his    Doran Martell's story arch was completely POINTLESS in the show.     There is a WHOLE story arch in the books concerning the DORNISH MASTER PLAN which is basicly (no spoilers cause the show ruined it now) a plan that allows the Dornish to take over the rule of the seven kingdoms WITHOUT A FIGHT - and Doran came up with the plan, over YEARS of planning and conceiving.

    In the books he had the Sand snakes (the chicks that killed him and his son) thrown in jail RIGHT AWAY after Oberyn died cause he knew they would only cause trouble - he is **** SMART!

    Seriously this is **** up beyond believe.

    Doran isn't **** Joffrey, he isn't **** Ned Stark, he isn't Robert, he isn't Rob - He is **** Doran. What skill his brother Oberyn had in fighting he had in thinking - He knows your move before you even make it. While other people just play the game of thrones he is its master.

    I can't believe they done this to him.

    I never EVER had a problem with the show changing something up from the books - seriously never. I came into this season excited and the first episode killed that excitement and chopped up its body.

    Doran's death was just a cheap atempt to get the viewers shocked about a new death - well guess what: if you don't give the character time to grow, no one gives a **** This failed absolutely miserably.

    Ok with that **** out of the way what else is there?
    - Stannis' death is pointless (still alive in the books - though he lost the battle)
    - Bryane's and Podric's arrival EX MACHINA
    - all scene's with Ramsey and Roose Bolton are very good - better than decent dialogue with clever way to fit in exposition
    - same can be said about Cersai and Jayme scene
    - I don't understand how can Tyrion and Varis walk so casualy through Mereen, that is bull****. The sons of the Harpey are very well informed so they would know who Tyrion is - never mind the fact that everyone saw him in the Arena WITH THE QUEEN. Seriously they would get assasinated. (though you may argue the Sons were at work on the ships so maybe I could believe that)
    - Jorah's grey scale still bothers me. I don't know where are they going with it - maybe some heroic sacriface he'll make later for Daenerys and dies in the proces. BUT it will only make it absolutely WORTHLESS - he would die anyway so that way he'll just die sooner - he has nothing to loose. On the other hand if he would be completely healthy and died for Daenerys that would be a worthy heroic sacrifice.
    - There is no way no one would recognize the Khalissi of Khal Drogo, just no way (I mean they sold her to Drogo cause she was LIKE NO OTHER WOMAN)
    - I don't know what will they do with Arya. If they won't get the abillity to warg into animals soon this will be a steriotype training arch (BORING)
    - and lastly ser Alister gave Davos and the men who guard Jon time till nightfall and as Davos says the red woman is their only chance...AAAAND she is going to bed for the night....well bye guys, you're all ****.    … Expand

    I was almost clapping my hands several time through the first episode. I was a bit worried what would happen with the writing in this season, but I am happy to say that they seem to pull it off just the way I had hoped. No doubt this show is more and more about the bigger picture of the entire show, and I like that!     I have to wonder if some of the critics were annoyed about not being able to recieve advanced copies this time. And maybe that effected their reviews. This first episode of the season is much better than the current rating of 74. It's at least a solid 8.5. One of the better first episodes of any season of Game of Thrones, in fact. Everything was very deftly handled and I wasn't bored forI have to wonder if some of the critics were annoyed about not being able to recieve advanced copies this time. How they set everything up for the season was very well done. Even what will happen with Dorn seems somewhat promising now. Of course, they didn't touch on every single thing going on in one episode but that's always been the case with Game of Thrones.     In short, it was an episode of Game of Thrones, a show with little interest in or aptitude for self-editing. The aspects that worked were no better-written or more artfully shot than those that fell slightly flat; they simply had a sense of urgency that was, even by the standards of a show whose premieres are slow going, was absent elsewhere.

    Surprise has its place, and isn't mandatory in a table-setting episode like this, which did its best to catch us up on most of the characters (while skipping over the likes of Littlefinger, Sam, and Hot Pie) and show us where their stories may be headed after all that went down at the end of last season.

    The bodies still pile up in a sprawling episode full of ongoing storylines, but there's a definite sense that there's hope for some of these hopeless sorts. ... [Arya's] journey, as a young woman in a severely patriarchal society, has always been extremely compelling, but with every season, she gets more agency and strength, and becomes even more captivating.
