Some moments of season 2 are among the best I've ever seen on TV. Manages to keep, and sometimes even improve, on the incredible quality of season 1. My personal must-buy bluerays at the moment

Before the second season of Game of Thrones began, I decided to read the first book and this gave me an appreciation of how true to George Martin's story the writers stayed with the first season's adaptation. It also helped provide some additional background and detail to the characters in the way that only a several hundred page book can.

Fresh from sorting out all the loose ends at the end of the last season, the new season begins in earnest with Robb at war with the Lannisters, Tyrion appointed the Hand of King Joffrey, Arya on the road and Daenerys struggling to forge a way home with her infant dragons.

The season then injects a huge influx of new characters, including Stannis and Renly Barratheon, the township of Qarth, the Tyrell siblings, the house of Greyjoy and Jaqen H'ghar. Certain characters from the first season are given much more screen time this time around, most notably Tywin Lannister, who is superbly played by Charles Dance.

In covering all the characters, locations and story lines, the scope of the show can only be described as epic. As with all good shows of such grandeur (The Wire and Treme), the writers manage to maintain interest through rich character development and intricate story telling despite the meandering pace of the action. Given the scope of the show, the story arc for each character within each book/season is relatively shallow, for instance, Stannis takes almost all 10 episodes to mount his attack on Kings Landing, Robb sits at camp and really does nothing more than deal with his mother and his new love interest, Jon sets out north of the wall and achieves relatively little and Daenerys enters Qarth and struggles with the local politics, but through the structure of the episodes the writers manage to not make you feel short changed at all as the action progresses.

The season really belongs to Peter Dinklage, who as Tyrion, with the confidence of his father behind him, really comes into his own as he schemes and plots with the best of them at Joffrey's court. All in all the acting and production is superb, and as a Northerner, I love to hear the broad Northern accents when the action switches to Winterfell and beyond the wall.

Still loving this show, a bit too much on the 'porny' side. I don't like some of the changes they made to 'enhance' a certain evil king, but I still love the show.

    Twists and turns abound. :)

Sex in season 1 was occasional, erotic and surreal; and painted a vivid picture of the society and characters. Roles of some secondary characters were expanded just so that they could show their breasts, like Margaery and the woman who replaced Jeyne Westerling. The rest, however, was handled pretty decently. The changes from the book were understandable and even better suited in some cases. A Clash of Kings, upon which this season is based, was my favorite book of the series tying with the third, but the season was a step down from the first. Expand

The first episode was confusing without having read the books but I'm glad I persevered. Great story, stellar production values, a believable and scary "universe" and not at all predictable. Almost all the characters are interesting and none of the performances suck. Even the child actors impressed me. Peter Dinklage stands out, in part because his character is fascinating and has a lot of the best lines, but also because he is so damned good. It's not hard to find good actors if you make an effort but finding a dwarf-size actor this talented was an incredible stroke of luck for the series. I will have to check out everything else he's been in. His timing is impeccable, every choice he makes as an actor is perfect and he has charisma I would have thought impossible. I guess that makes me prejudiced, but projecting sexuality is not an easy thing for a man who is less than 5 feet fall. I am SO impressed, both with the series and with Mr. Dinklage. Expand

The show takes off where season 1 ended, naturally evolving the storyline and the characters while maintaining the intense and extreme quality of the production values. On top of this, a bunch of new, interesting, well-acted characters are introduced to the storyline, alongside new plots. The writing is fantastic and while some slow parts in the season existed, it was very, very good.

Season 2 is a pick up form Season 1 and you'll notice almost straight away, as its already established a lot of its important points in season 1, its able to move full steam ahead without any confusion. Along with its quicker pacing, Season 2 also has the first large scale battle the series has to offer and it certainly delivers. Game of Thrones Season 2 is everything Season 1 was and more.

By now, the old characters have well and truly come into their own and we know who to root for and who we want to fail. Peter Dinklage is as brilliant as ever in his role as the ever witty, scheming and scarily clever Tyrion Lannister, Jack Gleeson is despicably awesome as evil king Joffrey, Lena Headey fantastic as the mother of all b****es Cersei Lannister. The new characters are also well acted too, and we have plenty more to ponder in their personalities and ambitions.
Unfortunately, this can also be a little frustrating a times, especially early on in the series when we are introduced to them, which means that the story often slows down considerably; there is perhaps less of a feeling of underlying tension and excitement in this series than in the last. But when things do go off in the final few episodes, boy do they go off!
The awesome battle of blackwater episode is one of the finest in the show's history - truly epic and awesome, as is the final episode, when several plot lines reach their dramatic conclusion. Overall, a fine continuation of the story.

The first season was about introducing almost everything to us, get us to know where we were and how that world works, and they did it very well, in this one they took those already introduced things and go beyond them, so we saw further the wall, and get to know a little about what was there, get to know new houses in westeros, and more things. The focus was to go further on in what was already presented, but they also presented some new things, in this one they talked and showed a more about the religion aspect, making we understand a little more about it, about their gods and how the population sees them, the rivalry between the houses in a religion aspect. They also came with the introduction of magic, they demonstrated a mystic side of the world, wich was a nice expansion, even that somethings realy felt out of place, wich i hope they talk a little more about the god of fire next season and explain somethings, but mainly it worked out in another moments.
In this season they were able to make me feel really distressed in some moments and cheering strong for some characters in some moments, so as maked me feel hate for some characters. I love how they are not afraid to give a personality to a character, giving him a story and making him charismatic for after that just killing the character, making the situations have burden, that is essential and it is a high aspect that why this show is great.
Much about this is in the acting. Peter Dinklage stills doing an outstanding job, he can be sarcastic and demonstrate his intelligence even in the way that he speaks, also can pass his fear and distressed in some situations with his expressions. Lena Headey just confirmed that she was the perfect cast, she can be evil and selfish, but in this season the script gave her more layers, and show that she also can truly love someone, and the actress could do a perfect job in this. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was actually very funny in this season, the way that he speaks is always very calm and confident, he did a good job. Emilia Clarke was certain in her attitudes, she could be a mother that would protect her sons no matter what and even being a little reckless in some moments, she could pass confident in her voice, even that it didn't convinced me 100% of the time, it was a good job. Charles Dance was that kind of guy that every time he opened his mouth you would just shut up and hear everything that he had to, he convinced as a wise man, so as a dangerous one, and without being overacting and screaming, just talking with calm, he convinced me in each moment that he was all of that, and also a great leader. Jack Gleeson also convinced me as a completely spoiled boy, that think that he can do anything but when things don't go his way he is scary, he did a very good job. There are so many actors that it is complicated to talk about each one, but overall they all did a pretty good job.
One thing that i complained in the season 1, was that the acting normally was cutted out, they prepare everything and then they cut to when it is over, this also happens here, but there is a battle that it is really shown and it was mostly very good, the strategy that was came up was great, just the fighting moments in close battle that i just not sure if they are in their best yet but it was a step.
A lot of characters had some journey in this one, some of them didn't felt that they move from some and get somewhere, it felt that was a little stagnant for so much time without doing much, i'm talking about Robb journey. Daenerys jounrey also didn't convinced me a lot in what she was doing, it maked sense, but for me, it didn't moved she that much. Theon one was fantastic, i completely bough why he was doing that, and i could feel his lack of direction and how lost he really was on his had, wich was also a great job of the acotr Alfie Allen.
The new characters that was introduced was a really highpoint, a mysterious guy that got me really interested in his story and a big and poweful knight woman, that was so badass were the ones who called me the most.
The story has some flaws, like a character that it is in one place at the end of episode 9 and then he just appears in another place out of nowhere, wich i believe that it was more of that mystic side that they introduced, but didn't explained or show a lot, but it was strange.
They had some breathtaking ending in some episodes, and a first exhibition of "The Rains of Castamere", wich was perfectly done in the best moment. This show is getting better and better, making their universe being more palpable in each episode.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a big Game of Thrones fan and have read all the books. That said, I am finding Season Two a little disappointing. This is perhaps inevitable, as the producers and writers have to follow (mostly) George R.R. Martin's increasingly meandering narrative. In the first season, there were five distinct families: The Starks, the Night's Watch, The Targaryens, the Lannisters and Baratheons. And there were five distinct locations: Winterfell, The Wall, King's Landing, The Eyrie, and the East. All the characters fit fairly well into one or more of these families and locations. As a result, each episode could spend 15 minutes or more on an individual location or family. In Season Two, we are in the first stages of the disintegration of George R.R. Martin's narrative. Book Two, Clash of Kings, is still compelling, but by Book Three, which we should reach in Season Three, the wheels will have come off for good and the producers and writers are going to have some serious decisions (and triage) to perform. In Season Two, the number of characters has already expanded radically, as have locations. We now have the Greyjoys of Pyke, the Baratheons of Dragonstone, and fairly soon we will encounter the Baratheons, Tyrells and Martells of the South, as well as the Tullys of Riverrun and will make the acquaintance of several more loathsome Freys. This is barely supportable in a book, but not in a TV miniseries. As a result, we are already losing characters and locales (anybody notice Sansa, Rickon, or the Vale of Arryn recently?) and some key characters, such as Littlefinger are temporarily revived in pointless scenes that did not occur in the book, just to remind us that they exist and will play an important part later in the story. Fifteen-minute segments are gone, and now we are down to five or ten-minute scenes. Soon, with the proliferation of characters, we won't even have that, and the story will become more and more disjointed, just like George R.R. Martin's books. As time goes on, Martin's story becomes more dreamlike, with no beginning and no end, just a frittering away of the narrative in pointless blind alleys and ever more complicated stories with more and more and still more characters and locales added to the mix, and obvious plot pathways ignored. Martin's books are a work in progress, and they will probably never be finished, as Martin has been suffering from periodic writer's block for the past several years. The obvious conclusion to the story, a few volumes after Book Five, should be the confrontation of Fire and Ice, represented by Daenerys and her dragons on one side, and the White Walkers and Wights on the other, fighting over a Westeros devastated by the increasingly chaotic and pointless struggle of pretenders to the Iron Throne. But at the end of Book Five, Winter has still not come, Daenerys has still not invaded Westeros, the White Walkers have not come south of The Wall, and the number of pretenders to the Iron Throne just grows and grows. This is a dream that has no end, and the producers of Game of Thrones are going to have some major decisions to make. I don't envy them. With regard to the current season, I would like to see a lot more of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), who justly has top billing now, and a lot more of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) too, who has only gotten started. Season 2 starts off terribly slow and it takes about half of the season for things to really get going but by the end of it, I couldn't wait for season 2 to start. The addition of Stannis, who is a favourite character of mine, works wonders and the battle of Blackwater Bay remains one of the best the show has ever done.

It is also the season where Danaerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) turns into the real star of the show, with a mind-blowing performance and a character that keeps dragging me into her. Watch it for the characters, stay for the blood and the boobs (Hope that didn't sound disgusting but come on, the show's boobs are top notch). Expand

Season 2 of Game of Thrones spawns more locations, subplots and characters. While it suffers from juggling too much, it nevertheless retains the storytelling craft of the first season to create a great fantasy show for adults.

Having read the books I worried that having so many characters and plot lines that an hour long, ten episode season wouldn't be able to keep up and unfortunately I was right. While still good stuff, you never get to stay with any one group long enough for it to get rolling, and the introduction of new characters is done so fast it's hard to feel any emotion for them. While the first season had it's fair share of changes from what happened in the books, I felt most all were well done and used to make the show even better by fleshing out some elements. The second season's changes though seem to be more for the sake of having to condense and simplify, and while maybe needed for the format they are not to the benefit of the narritive.
Having said all of that, there are still some great things left. The acting of almost all involved continues to be superb and the locations, set designs, and overall production value makes for a beautiful show. Season two is still better than most dramas on TV and for fans on the genre there's nothing out there that compares being currently offered. Perhaps the greatness of season one has lead me to treat the lesser season two more harshly than if I weren't comparing them too, but I don't see how I can review the latter without comparing to the former, so you can take it as you will.

I had big hopes for the second season, but alas, it suffers the all-to-common sophomore phenomenon. The dialogue is more stilted, the characters more dispersed, the story lines more scattered. Game of Thrones has lost its mojo. I may stick it out for episode four tonight, but I have little hope of seeing anything that will make me come back again.

My impressions of the first season were mixed and it really was overrated. This second is no exception. The first five episodes are pretty much the same; we get even more character introductions and a well written story. The story got much build-ups, our characters keeps planning and discussing events. That’s both a problem and a unique aspect of Game of Thrones. It’s a great thing because we can at a greater scale understand why certain events come to pass, and why our characters behave as they do. We also get closer to them and when the show really do pay off; we begin to love the show. I totally agree on that matter, but all the slow and less entertaining dialogs and build-ups are so boring. I admire that GoT really is something unique, but there’re no action-sequences!

The first half is as I mentioned very much alike as the first season; nothing really big does happen, but it got its character developments (and introductions). The lack of action is very outspread. I was a bit disappointed, because there were some signs of great action here and there, we see men preparing for battle, but at some point in the first half of the season they skip showing that, and continue after the battle; so annoying and depressing!

The whole season is very similar with the first; much build-ups and boring dialogs, but there are some unexpected events and the characters are the one strong aspect with the show! The season finale is much better than in the first season; it’s intense, bloody, realistic and much unique amount of action exists (finally!). Another aspect is the actors; yes they are all stunning, but Richard Madden is hard to take serious as an actor (doesn’t fit the role).

This second continuation of the overrated show Game of Thrones is both much more action-packed, but even more slow than its predecessor. The slow but still interesting story still defines the show but nothing big really happens. Too much preparing storylines makes the show slow and boring. But the characters and the big and great final episodes made it a bit greater than the first season.

Relatable characters, unique (but low amount of) action, awesome title sequence and a powerful storytelling is still the only aspects that’s great. But I did expect much more, because we had one whole season of nothing, and here it is, another season of more nothing! My overall rating for each episode is 6.48/10.

Yet after 6 episodes of the second season, the TV series has gone astray from the books, not only in unnecessary instances, but also in critical ones. While the series may still be interesting to those who have not read the books, I cannot imagine that readers are pleased. George RR Martin wrote an intriguing tale with copious amounts of sex, yet someone in control seemed to think there wasn't enough for the second season on TV. Disgusting. In my opinion, there were several sub-plots in the first book that were removed from the TV series, but nothing was added. This is the key. In season two they have added plots, or have at least accelerated said plots. At the end of season two episode six, there was an event so different from anything in the books that I may have to stop watching now. Casting is still phenomenal with the introduction of new characters. Love how they've done with a TV budget versus a big screen Lord of the Rings type budget (or, dare I say, Avatar's budget). Expand

I've been a big fan of season 1 and even read ALL game of throne books after watching that. All books except for the first one. After that, the second season is quite disappointing. The entire book chapters have been condensed into 30 second scenes or so, and honestly, if I did not read the book, I wouldn't even know what's going on on the screen half the time or how it's connected to the story.

Bleh all HBO seems interested in is porn. They cut down and simplify all the conversations yet manage to cram in heaps of **** and stuff and it just makes it awkward if your watching with people who don't like that stuff and it seems a waste as they leave out a lot of the good stuff. I guess this appeals to the masses, but not really to me, if I want porn I search the web by myself.
