The US remake is too clinical and sanitised approach. In my view unwatchable compared to this original.

The Danish cast and their acting is simply wonderful. Real character expression supplemented with superbe lighting. The pacing of the script is perhaps for some too ponderous, but sometimes you need to tell a story properly. Finally, someone got drama right.

Will not appeal to people who dislike subtitles. I also glad they didn't do voice overs as that would have only ruined the ability to hear the emotion of the actors. Angst is angst in any language.

Short version: Great first half, poor second half. Long version: The show starts off very promising with two interesting story arcs (one criminal, one political and connected to each other). Gradually, the cops become infuriatingly inept and almost all the characters have the bewildering ability to discard common sense and keep revelations that would help solve the crime a secret. Lund in particular (the main cop) insists on not talking to anyone EVER about her suspicions/conclusions and instead chooses to bark at everyone to do as she says without ever justifying why they should. It all ultimately winds down to a thoroughly mediocre conclusion leaving NUMEROUS threads (hinted at throughout the series) hanging. Conclusion: Its an enjoyable but ultimately frustrating and unsatisfying show. Expand

It really was frustrating to see people constantly wandering into creepy dark places without a flashlight. Who does that in real life? And the writers cheat the audience by fabricating problems that would have easily been solved through communication.

I was disappointed. The actors are fabulous and extremely believable. But their behaviours are not. The last third of the season I was actually hoping the main cop character would be killed or at least severely beaten up to the point of hospitalization. Her narcissism was unbearable and no one in the real world gets away with that crap without a severe reaction.

ALSO: I hated the gum chewing shtick employed by actress Sophie Grabol. Actors use that as a crutch, because they believe it gives them more character. But it was transparently mechanical and hard to watch.

I am happy to see that others came to the same conclusion I did: First Half - Great, Second Half - hard to swallow.

ONE LAST THING: Am I the only one who noticed the incredible number of eating scenes contained in this series? I'm pretty sure this series set a record. Apparently the Danes like to Eat, Copulate and Kill People, (pretty much in that order).
