Down In The Valley finds joy and power among the people who do sex work or sex-adjacent work in the Deep South, and Nicco Annan brings the energy to match that objective.
-
Though Annan is endlessly watchable and “Down in the Valley” encompasses several locations and a whole cast of characters, the manic speed of the show makes it feel rushed and fragmented.
-
In its best moments, Down in the Valley shows that a documentary series with Nicco Annan traversing the Mississippi Delta could be a good thing, especially if he left his Uncle Clifford hat — yes, he has a literal Uncle Clifford hat — behind. In its worst, it just made me wish I were watching a third season of P-Valley instead.
