Awesome start. Let's hope theirs a lot more to come. Just a few DOTA characters to start but I think it will ramp up fast. Great animation and story.

There's so much take in that it's worth the rewatch. If not for the lore, at least the easter eggs and winks made for the players. It's not sugarcoated in typical Valve style. The visual and animations are better than I expected, same goes for voice acting (English). Studio Mir did an amazing job.

I can only hope for season 2 and 3. You can't take the people reviewing this with a 1 2 3 seriously.

Animation/Art style: 4/5
The Animation is really smooth compared to other animated series found in other shows and there was alot of scenes where the animators didn't need to add anything but did anyway. props for the small details that makes the world more alive such as characters moving around in the shoot even the one's that only shows up for 1 single scene.

Visual effects: 3/5
There is a lot of visual effect applied throughout the series such as blur and camera shaking which kinda ruins the action scenes. i had a hard time being able to tell what was happening onscreen from time to time.
Lighting effects are really well made though and holds this up pretty well throughout the show.

Sound/music: 4/5
Sound design is excellent and really well but together that amplifies the feel of unnatural magic flowing through the world.
Music is also well crafted and fits the scenes quite well but... wasn't really memorable which is a bummer.

Story/Viewer interest: 5/5
As someone who don't know anything about the universe i watched this blind and i gotta say im happy its not just a "good vs evil" concept which is seen too often in these types of shows. It still has that vibe though but it keeps the focus on conflict instead of the villain itself which i liked a lot more.
Throughout the show there is plenty of interesting things to think about along the show which i will not spoil but after watching the show twice i was able to understand everything quite clearly and also picked up a lot of untold stuff (mostly displayed onscreen without dialog) that will have the viewer ask questions.
Story also contains a few blot twists that i enjoy. Such as "what happened?" "What do you mean?" "was that?"

Acting/Dialog: 4/5
Gotta say the cast of actors are well up for the task of doing voices for these characters they feel believable and the voices matches their personality (Sometimes)
There is also a few jokes here and there but mostly for teens and young adults.
I did wish they would have spend a bit more time on character development and not jumped too much ahead in the story since there was plenty of time in the universe to learn more about them as they traveled. (it felt rushed)
Punchlines are a bit over the place. Some are really Good (Troy Bakers lines especially) and others not so great (Davion) some of them come out flat and just dosen't really fit the scene but overall the conversation between all of them is enjoyable and believable.

Lenth: 3/5
8x20min is pretty short for a animated series i was really bummed out on how short and abruptly it ended. (I can be watched in one sitting if you have 3 - 4 hours if you skip the intro and credits)
it almost feel like i was more fitting to make this into a 2 hour movie instead but im expecting there to be more in the future so i will be crossing my fingers to see more from this studio.

Overall this is a great experience to watch if you ain't a mega fan and takes everything from first glance be-course the studio decided to do something else.
One of the first Netflix Animated shows i would recommend to friends who are interested in fantasy/action and roleplaying and of course video games.

The pacing is way off, far too rushed, far too much stuff tried to cram into the short episode run. The lack of development means you just dont care about any of it. I've played dota since the old WC days, so I love the game, but this does a very poor job of world building and conveying the atmosphere and depth of the lore thats built up.
The characters are shallow, generic and have next to zero development. Its a generic, by the numbers fantasy animee, with a disjointed and poorly paced plot.

Story is intriguing and the setting of these is incredible! I wasn't expecting it to be so serious and dark story with so much violence and blood. But there are also nice dialogs with interesting thoughts and decent jokes. Animation is 8/10 as for my eyes, sometimes I wish it have more frames per sec but it is not bad at all. It may feel a bit frustrating about the story sometimes because authors had a really lot of the ideas they wanted to put into the series but I guess the budget was not so high so they had to fill all of it into 8 series, so I can forgive this. I hope for season 2 and some bigger findings for these team, I trust they can do even better! Expand

What I got was something indeed simmilar, but adult, brutal even at times, ridden with great mystery of divine origins. Yeah, sure, it can be cheesy at times, but its laced with great voice acting, animation, and intryguing, multifaceted characters. There obviously is room for improvment, but the story is a great foundation to build upon, and I hope they will do so soon because i gulped it all up in one go. And it was delicious. Expand

With peopleTerrible dialogue, bad art (the side of character's noses can be horrific), animation varies from good to bad, and occasionally only has clips, and the story occasionally forgets what it was developing, just dropping a plot. With people doing up to three voices in a single 25 minute episode, it easily rips you out of immersion. But one of the most childish things in this was the use of Jiggly-cam to make a scene seem more frantic that it is. When used in live action it is bad, but in an animated series it is inexcusable. Overall, this is more like a crowdfunded fan project rather than a profession development. That sums up most Netflix developed shows these day, unfortunately. Expand

However, the writing, the storytelling... it is so cheesy and bad that I can only assume that Netflix's producers did bet on attracting more gamers. I suppose that it will find its audience but... the rest of us might be wondering how Valve ignored Miller's past record of bad TV series? Andromeda? Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles? The Twilight Zone? Urgs. What did Valve expect? That Miller somehow makes a better job than the past 20 years, with a TV show based on a video game? As if TV or film adaptions of games would be easy to do. I will try this TV series again in a few weeks but until then, it is rather a miracle to me that it exists. They should have hired a novel writer or comic creator first, to get the story straight first, I suppose. Expand

It's got gods, dragons, demons, elves, fire, and a ton of other cool characters and visuals that splash across the screen in this hectic miniseries. The plot is kind of nonsensical, and despite its relatively short episodes, it's easy to miss plot or lore bits. I wish the show had taken its time more. There are lots of twists and turns that could have absorbed an entire episode, but instead they're resolved in a five minute side plot. As they continue this series, I hope they give each episode a little more room to breathe, just a few more minutes of dialogue could give a lot more life into the series. Expand

I've played a little bit of DotA when moba's we're still my thing and although at the time I found the characters' backstories laughable at best and Shakespeare-esque at worse, I think they did a great job with what they had to work with.
But the show feels like it's moving a little too fast and I don't exactly get a lot of time to attach to these characters, unless I'm actually a fan of the game. I had the same feeling about Castlevania up to season 4, but I really do think that two more episodes would have tied everything together nicely.
The CGI also has to go, it's so incredibly ugly, the villagers in episode 8 and the lip flops of the dragons strike me in particular as goofy and weightless. I don't know what the budget of this series is, but I've almost never seen 2D and 3D combined and done well, unless the models are semi-hidden by energy fields and whatnot to better blend them in. You have traditional hand-drawn animation in twos or threes vs those buttery smooth models for the drakes and Terrorblade and it's a shame, because it makes the experience feel a little bit cheap, I'm talking Master Raindrop levels of cheap. Still a good watch, not gonna lie, but for outsiders it's just action with some predictable character developement thrown in to justify the murder rampages. Season 1 feels more like an experiment to see how many would tune in, so let us hope that season 2 - should it ever come out - gets better from here.

In my opinion, it could have added at least two more episodes to flesh out Luna and Selemene's characterization but I guess we just have to wait for a second season to even see that happening.

The animation is a mixed bag, the fighting choreography at first is just on fire, the first two episodes blew me away. It reminded me how Studio MIR animate "The Legend of Korra" back in the day. However as episodes go by, the action scenes seem to degrade especially the war between the two factions. The dragons looked pretty actually good with their 3D CGI animation, but for some reason, Terrorblade was worse for me.

There were also scenes between transitions that are so short, it annoys the heck out of me when it transitioned to another one. The music is decent though. Maybe one of the problems is why is the show even subtitled "Dragon's Blood" when it's mostly the story of Selemene's.

Anyway overall, I enjoyed the show but it could have been better. We just hope the second season will be better if there's one.
