It's either the people working on the show right does not understand or know Doctor Who at all, or they're just mean for the sake of whatever gain they may achieve. I'm just sad that the show that meant to a lot of people doesn't seem to mean so much to the people making it. Or I don't know, maybe they just don't get it, which is also sad because I'd like to think one of my favorite IP (one with a gargantuan legacy at that) are being handled by professionals. WOW, how the mighty has fallen.

Doctor Who throughout the last 50 years has been evolving, and generally the evolution has been a a positive thing, that is until recently. The last couple of seasons is an absolute dumpster fire, where you get preached at so much, its like an educational propaganda film than entertainment. BBC you have failed the fans. The writing is now garbage, and the lead actress has the charisma of a flat plank.

Can you really believe they burned 50 years of historical canon to show signal virtuing? sad day indeed.

My advice is that anyone who wants to try Doctor Who, try the old material, that was good... the new stuff is just utter crapola.

Season 11 was weak but I just chalked it up to be a transition season. I feel the "companions" have more of a relationship with each other than the Doctor has with them. It's also obvious that these stories have more of an agenda to push rather than telling a fun imaginative story. Personally I can't wait for them to change doctors again, but I realize that a change may not produce what I desire, mostly I wish Stephen Moffit would come back. I may just give up watching a show I love simply due to its spunkiness no longer being present. Expand

BiggestThis is for Season 12, episodes 1 and 2- Jodie Whittaker is an accomplished actor and I used to like her before Doctor Who. I hope she can redeem herself with a movie or something after ending her contract making this terrible show. Biggest issues were rewriting cannon, terrible script that confuses woke identity politics for science fiction, terribly written accompanying actors, anachronistic color blind casting that destroys realism, rewriting actual history and plot-convenient unexplained superpowers that Doctor Who has never shown before, casually thrown in to save time finding solutions to poor scripting choices. I wondered- Perhaps the writers broken the delete button on their computers and are not able to adjust or rewrite any parts of the script when they write themselves into a corner? There is also a race swap to a character (White to non-white obviously), although I didn't mind the race swap. I did mind that the new actor was desperately trying to over-act in a failed attempt to leave an impression in the two minutes of screen time they were given in the role. I expect this was more a writing issue than an acting issue as I got the impression the actor could have done more in an appropriately cast part and some actual characterization. Bradley Walsh returns and is average at best, but in his defense, he's given nothing in the script to work with. The other two unknowns are bad but also have nothing to do. Tosin Cole announces that he has dyslexia from time to time, in Lieu of character development. I have increased the review score from zero to one because at least Tosin Cole announces his dyslexia less often than in series 11. This deserves a point because Cole is far less aggravating to watch and makes me wonder what he could do with a real part in a TV show. Mandip Gill is just there. I think the identity politics obsessed writers "needed" more "women of color" in the show and once Mandip Gill was in the show they never really thought any further about what she did for the story. The three sidekicks are clear examples of tokenism. It also looks like they cut the budget for this series as the visual effects were worse than usual. I didn't mind bad effects, this wasn't a problem as the show has destroyed all realism with the writing. Hopefully they will cut the budget down to zero quite soon. Expand

I loved it so much that i went back and watched as many of the classic series as well and fell in love with that. It is an ultimate disappointment that the state of the show has completely dissolved into political sludge. Any nuance and subtlety Doctor Who once had has been replaced by an over-the-top political message aimed at a broader audience who watches these kinds of shows to escape the monotony of everyday life.

I have nothing against Jodie Whittaker as an actor, nor do i feel that a woman should never play The Doctor. I just do not believe that she was the right choice. Whatever chance she did have has been completely destroyed by the abysmal writing of a clearly inexperienced writing team, and an incompetent show runner (Chris Chibnall) who seems hell-bent on cramming any political message into a story regardless of whether it fits the narrative or not.

I do not hold any contempt towards politics or political shows. But i do not feel that Doctor Who ever needed to become a vessel for political views no matter who's views they were representing.

I believe it is time for the BBC to bite the proverbial bullet, cancel the show and reevaluate their situation. If they do not feel that they can reverse the direction the show has taken, maybe it is time to let it rest. But i think they are going to keep on going with what the show has become, lose more and more viewers and probably silently snub it off when it loses all viewership.

I know it's too late to say it, but this show has hit an Iceberg. We know what happens next...

And it's got a mining drill and looking to dig deeper. Everything is dull: characters, acting, dialogue, suspense and storylines. Episode 3's Orphan 55 is possibly the worst episode in the series' 50+ years. Men in alien suits with big fangs mincing around looking for...who knows...a dentist? They were as frightening as that grey monster that grrr grrrs across Joss Whedon's Mutant Enemy final screen. Jodie Whittaker is completely wasted (and embarrassed) by the BBC here just as Peter Capaldi was. It's time for the creatives behind the series to regenerate, or walk into a cyberman bar. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Jodie's doctor is improving from season to season! She is heart-warming, thoughtful and passionate as the doctor. Every now and then she gives a nod to fellow doctors like 11th and 10th in her performances. This show is all about changes, there isn't such a thing as canon that can't be rewritten. We saw it in the 50th anniversary and saw it in seasons 7 and 12 final episodes. In season 12 we see strong female characters and a lot of new monsters that certainly made their marks on the show. Can't wait for season 13 and beyond! Expand

The only good point in Chibnall's era is the Master and some soundtracks, the others characters are bad and I am not really linking Jodie's Doctor, she is not the Doctor enough. I really miss Russel T Davies's era which was my favorite, Steven Moffat was great as well, not as much as Russel T Davies but he gave us pretty good storys even after started being the showrunner. That's why I am leaving a 8/10, because I see the whole show and not only the two last series, and to me the show deserves a 10/10 if we forget Chibnall's era. Expand

One of my absolute favourite series. One can really admire the team behind the writing, you just need to excuse the one or two inconsistencies that pop up over 15 years.

The show has kinda gone down hill with the last few seasons. I think the writing is to blame. For example Jodie Whittaker seems like she has the range and acting chops to do the character justice, they just don't write her doctor with a distinct personality from the others. Unfortunately her doctor, feels like the most generic version of the doctor. Again I think she's got the ability to really deliver, but the writing of her lines and character feels like you could fit it in with any doctor and you'd just be like. Yep, sounds like the doctor. Anyhow If you like Sci-fi Doctor Who is an absolute must. Expand

Earlier seasons are fun and campy adventures, quite comfy watching overall. Show has gotten worse and worse over the last few seasons and even doctors. Most recent seasons id give a 1 or 2. High points in earlier seasons a 7.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll preface this rating and comment with a warning: You have to read thru to see how it has ended up where it is now.

In 2005, there was a revival. It was slow to catch on, but once it got momentum we suddenly started seeing blue boxes all over the world, and it became a titan in the Sci-Fi world.

So far:
Season 1: = 8.5
Season 1 special thru the end of 7 (with it special): 10
Seasons 8-10: 9.2 (bit of a roller coaster)

Now in 2020, it has been a long and mostly decent road, but these last two seasons (11 & 12) have been somewhat of a disaster. Some blame the casting, others blame the writing... I am on the fence between these two positions, but the result is the same.

First, we have the largest gap in delivery of a new season, then what is finally released feels like a bad first date where both sides are equally uncomfortable, and whatever promise the stories may have had were lost in the awkwardness of this confusion.

Season 11: 7

Then, they break their own established tradition of a Christmas special and move it to new years. Worst. Move. Ever.

Many were very happy with a new holiday tradition of gathering with friends and loved ones to watch the Who special, but by moving it to new years, they have not only stolen this new tradition from the fans, but relegated itself to a "minimally special day of observance".

S11 Special: 6

The 11th season was the obligatory 2nd "pity" date because you did not believe anyone could be that bad, so you felt like giving them another chance. Nope, still just as bad. Singularly they could be just fine, but together... oil and water just do not mix, but we'll turn up the blender speed anyways just to give the appearance of it "mixing well".

Season 12: 5

Now, with the 2021 "special" having been released, they have all but spent whatever currency the last 15 years has brought them in delivering... a rerun. An enemy that has become a running joke, a plot that that was also pegged years ago, and more stiff acting from people that are literally acting like they no longer want to be there. The one bright spot was the return appearance of "the face of Bo", but in the end even he got marginalized.

S12 Special: 4

Whatever follows needs to get it back on track, or all that is left of this show for many will be fond memories of what was. And with it being "lucky" 13, the optimistic odds are bout even between this being the last nail in the coffin, or a successful revival.

If you stop watching early enough, there's actually a lot of joy in it. If you stop early enough...

I hope that there's some kind of solution for this problem and i just hope to see the doctor who series go as up as it used to.

The revival era of Doctor Who brings back one of the best and most iconic sci-fi franchises in a refreshing, unique (yet still in keeping with the classics), and incredibly entertaining way. Whether you are a kid or an adult, you can enjoyThe revival era of Doctor Who brings back one of the best and most iconic sci-fi franchises in a refreshing, unique (yet still in keeping with the classics), and incredibly entertaining way. Whether you are a kid or an adult, you can enjoy this bombastic and fantastic piece of television by watching the adventures of the Doctor in the TARDIS, played by various amazing actors. Accompanying the Doctor is their multiple funny, empathetic, and likable companions who usually range anywhere from comedic relief, to romantic partner, to moral compass of the Doctor. Speaking off, there is a little bit of every type of media genre in the 150+ episodes. Horror, action, comedy, romance, mystery, superhero, and any other genre you can think of can be found in this endlessly diverse show. While the concepts and ideas can be wacky and ridiculous, the acting, dialogue, writing, and music are almost always on point. Some unbeatable, must-watch classics include The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, The Girl in the Fireplace, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, Midnight, The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, Vincent and the Doctor, A Christmas Carol, The Day of the Doctor (my personal favorite), Heaven Sent, World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls, and Twice Upon a Time. Those are only some of the phenomenal episodes within excellently-crafted seasons. I could go on for days why this is such a good show, but I shouldn't so let's talk about the writer eras and seasons before wrapping up. The Russell T. Davies's era is the pinnacle of the show with the best writing, music, acting, and series arcs you could hope for. It successfully revives the show in a very exciting way and overall deserves a 9/10. The Steven Moffat era is a little weaker in terms of writing, as Moffat's stories sometimes have too much in them or too little. That is not every season though, as some have tightly-written, delightfully mysterious series arcs. However, almost every one of his seasons with bad arcs is redeemed by the banger individual episodes. Also, the acting and music are still at the same level of quality as they were in the Russell T. Davies era, so Moffat's time with the show gets a 7/10 from me. Now for the Chris Chibnall era of the show which is just unfortunate. Despite a few good single episodes here and there, the series arcs are either lazily-put-together, uninteresting trash or over-stuffed trash. The writing is basically a self-parody of previous eras, the music is generic, and the acting is nothing special. I have no problem with the people behind the camera and in front of it, because they are doing the best with what they are given, but that only reaches so far. Overall, the Chibnall era had some good ideas that were stomped into dust by the awful execution so I give it a 3/10. Despite my negative words for the current run of the show I have no personal anger towards the people involved, and no matter how bad the show gets, it will never spoil the first ten seasons. I suggest only watching up to Twice Upon a Time, but that opinion might change considering Russell T. Davies is back as show-runner, and he very well could save the show once again. But you are allowed to do what you want. To close this off, here is my ranking of the seasons:
(1)Series 4: 10/10
(2)Series 1: 10/10
(3)Series 5: 9/10
(4)Series 3: 8/10
(5)Series 10: 8/10
(6)Series 2: 7/10
(7)Series 6: 7/10
(8)Series 4, the Specials: 7/10
(9)Series 9: 7/10
(10)Series 8: 6/10
(11)Series 7: 5/10
(12)Series 13: 4/10
(13)Series 11: 3/10
(14)Series 12: 2/10.
