I struggled to care about this meandering story, which involved John Bishop looking as if he'd fallen on hard times and gone into panto in a pirate costume from Aldi.

Nearing the end of this era, it’s a happy pay-off for viewers who have invested in this burgeoning romance and for Whittaker and Gill, who’ve formed a close bond in real life over the past four years. This progressive attitude is the most refreshing aspect of this maritime mediocrity. Hopefully, the Sea Devils will be put into storage and rise again soon with less wishy-washy material.

Without that creeping dread, The Legend of the Sea Devils was reliant on a potpourri plot as watertight as a colander. ... By some way the best part of The Legend of the Sea Devils, however, had nothing to do with the Sea Devils or their legend. The nascent relationship between the Doctor and Yaz (Mandip Gill, superb) has been the most memorable aspect of the last few Whos.
