After taking a massive bashing from the BBC, with an 18-month hiatus and endless critisisms of violence, it nice to see that Doctor Who recovered rather well, with the season long Trial of a Time Lord.
It's still split up into 4 different stories shown as evidence of the Doctor's trial, including The Mysterious Planet, which is well-acted, funny, entertaining and nice looking, but

It's still split up into 4 different stories shown as evidence of the Doctor's trial, including The Mysterious Planet, which is well-acted, funny, entertaining and nice looking, but ultimatly inconsequential, Mindwarp which is dark and great in every aspect, with the exception of it's focus, Terror of the Vervoids, a well-crafted but flatly executed who-dunnit, and The Ultimate Foe, an unepic, anti-climatic, messy conclusion to the trial.
As for the trial itself, it holds together well, but never goes anywhere, even when you move into a different segment, the conclusion is utter rubbish, which doesn't do the rest of the trial justice, and the constant interruption of the stories for the sake of having some trial exposition, but overall, this is an entertaining redemption for Doctor Who, which sadly ended with the firing of Colin Baker, why?, because Michael Grade is a *******.

It's a pity that this season isn't regarded very highly. I find it to be one of the most enjoyable and re-watchable runs in the show's long history. Having calmed down significantly since his previous season, the 6th Doctor is on fine form, stealing the show in every scene he appears in. The plots combine humor, intrigue, and (mostly) good storytelling. It doesn't make total sense, but IIt's a pity that this season isn't regarded very highly.
