Right off the bat, I must say that I have absolutely no idea why this story needed to be told in 8 episodes that add up to almost 5 and a half hours of content, when it spends all that time on nothing of substance.

And I mention this because the suspense is basically zero, even with what it achieves in terms of mystery in its first two episodes, coupled with a climax that builds itself very slowly and turns out to be extremely feeble.

Not only does it fail to provoke tension, but it leads to a conclusion that feels unbearably empty and above all frustrating once you realize everything you had to go through to get there.

Just gawd awful. Painfully slow pacing with absolutely ZERO pay off. Terrible script, terrible editing and oh sooo many clichés it isn't funny... not scary nor authentic nor true to any real life events. Intellectually deficient. There areJust gawd awful. Intellectually deficient. There are only so many hours of viewing some actress with a blank look on her face that a viewer can stand before wanting to slap her to wake her out of OUR coma. One trick poney acting is soooooo boring. I mean REALLY REALLY REALLY boring. How many times must Hollywood portray small town or religious folk and their law enforcement as menacing, territorial ignorant (insert stereotype here) kind of paint by numbers character assassination nonsense. If one were to believe Hollywood, every small town religious community are akin to the inbred cannibalistic Chainsaw Massacre family. Phooey!… Expand

It kept me engaged. Creepy vibe with a slow burn. An odd LGBT story line shoe-horned in. Really hope there is a season 2 because it ended on a bit of a cliff hanger

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While "Devil in Ohio" has a talented cast it falls short for many reasons. Emily Deschanel's roll as a Psychiatrist is not believable because in the real world taking in a patient (even temporarily is unethical and not allowed in the medical field.) Based on true events the shows follows the predictability of every show or film that has preceded it. The inaccuracies of the symbols related to Mae's (played by Madeleine Arthur) cult are used too often in genres such as these. For example early in the series in Episode 3 entitled "Mother's Keeper" Mae rushes to wash off a symbol resembling one that became famous from the original "Blair Witch Project." With such talented actors and (what should have been a great plot from Daria Polatin, who wrote the book) based on true-life inspiration background was slow and wavered from it's main plot and became a series of jumbled ridiculousness. The acting is subpar, which is a shame especially with the name recognition of Emily Deschanel (Bones.) While Emily and Autor Polatin may be long time friends, it did not help tell the chilling story of what really happened in the Polatin's true-life experience. While many shows and movies tend to exaggerate to make it more interesting the exaggeration here lead to a fictionalized mess with predictability and bad acting. If you want to watch a story that has a true-life inspiration to it this is not it and you should pass on this weak Netflix Limited series. It is not captivating and can be boring and frustrating at times. In my opinion this series should end with just one season and then forgotten about forever!… Expand

This is a fun show! Creepy, suspenseful, engaging, and the ending is wild. I enjoyed it and watched it in a couple nights.

The tense eeriness was what brought me in, but I was surprised to find the complex family dynamics of the Mathis household kept me watching. I watched it all in a night. The girl who plays Mae is crazy-good.

I thought this was a fun show. It's like a family drama with creepy suspense, more than a big horror show. If you go in with that expectation it's very enjoyable and kept me wondering what was going to happen til the end.
