Watching at 1.5x speed, this so-called docuseries still tested my patience at every turn. I followed the trial live, so this inaccurate and butchered representation was a slap in the face. Steer clear of this skewed debacle. Expand

Reinventing history is a popular writing trick that a lot of filmmakers turn to for creative ideas and inspiration; you can take a historical event and change it up in any way you'd like.

Clearly the director had a pro Amber (feminist) agenda, as she is reformulating the trial in a very amateurish way in depicting Amber as the innocent victims over the evil powerful men. Last time Ive checked she was declared guilty by in part women jury and a female judge.

Worth watching! Whatever you thought you knew about the trial, watch the documentaries before making your own conclusion.

That being said, this docuseries was pretty much awful. The director provides no original research, no novel insights, and doesn’t really ask any pertinent questions about the externalities that turned the case into an unavoidable cultural phenomenon. My biggest concern is that she only succeeded in reminding people of the existence of some of the bottom-of-the-barrel “content” creators that got their 15 minutes as pseudo-celebrities while they were covering the case. The parade of ineptitude that constituted the low quality social media entertainers giving Depp v. Heard hot takes ought to be left wallowing in post-Depp v. Heard obscurity but I imagine their mention in this docuseries will provide some of them with a much-undeserved bump in traffic. Expand

Biased as hell, the argument that social media affected the judgment of this case is tone deaf and totally dishonest. Amber lost because the Jury saw through her bs.

This is pushing an agenda with a truck load of propaganda on top of it. Yes, a side of this was to show the effect of social media and I am not a big dan of it either but thats not the issue with the show is.... As I said it;s just pure propaganda!

I saw the whole thing (the real story everyday) and the way its representatied in this series is just bonkers! Shows how manipulative TV shows

And... please DO NOT call it a documentary. It was honestly painful and frustrating to see the ending!
Summary: I just can't believe this crap!

A fascinating case study in how social media culture can distract us and divide us. This documentary has found a compelling, organized narrative buried in a convoluted mess of public vitriol and court proceedings, and it tells it concisely in three impactful episodes. 9/10.

It's funny seeing people calling out a non-existent agenda since the documentary series is free of commentary or interviews. Just a documentation of what happened. Maybe these people are embarrassed of seeing themselves in all the opportunistic clowns that commented on the trial.

Emphasizing the social-media frenzy that surrounded the case, alas, proves more irritating than illuminating, with the one truly worthwhile element being how the producers present the two principals’ conflicting accounts side by side.

We’re recommending Depp V. Heard for the edited-together trial footage, especially the back-and-forth testimony from Depp and Heard themselves. The rest of it is just irritating, but not irritating enough to keep us from watching.

This is one of the major drawbacks to the series: the failure to hold any of these commenters accountable, to even explain who they are beyond a simple graphic, to interview them after the fact and ask them how they feel about their performances, which were designed to gain as many “Likes” and Subscribers as possible.
