This season has got off with such a bang that it feels like a return to classic curb form. By focusing on the world post pandemic Larry essentially avoids a great tragedy while finding the humor in it.

You might need to be of a certain age to appreciate Curb. I don't know. I'm a middle aged man and this resonates.

For me this is one of the weakest seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm yet. It still has it's moments, particularly around life post Covid lockdown and as always Larry David's self-depracating humour shines through.

Scattered among the 42-minute premiere are big laughs from veteran players and superb guest stars.

It’s reassuring to know that no amount of paradigm-shifting, reality-altering events can stop the fictional Larry David from being a smug, screamy, narcissistic loon, and the real Larry David from being the funniest comedian on television.

“The Five-Foot Fence” wasn’t a riotously funny premiere for the show, but it did excel at putting Larry through the wringer.
