1st Season starts off well, not a masterpiece but enjoyable enough to make you want to watch the next episode. The second season is when the writing went to **** and nothing made sense, and everything felt stupid and you can't care anymore.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is another instance of a show that was beloved in childhood for its camp and silliness getting a reboot as a modern, dark, artistically-expressive epic. In shows like these, the protagonist is a Mary Sue that both generates and resolves most of the conflicts through personal development, and the formula works well. Overall, this is accomplished well, but as I watched the fourth (and presumably final) season, I realized something was going very wrong, and it kicked the quality of the show down a few pegs for me. The first season ("part") really delivers. We get a degree of silliness while still getting us on board with themes that would make your religious great-grandparent freak out. Season 2 gets a little more convoluted but still works well, and the characters have strong personal motivations that set up for several seasons of conflict and development. Season 3 takes us more into writing where sci-fi fans might easily follow the plot, but some of the characters portrayed as silly middle-ground characters take a sharp antagonistic slant and the primary antagonist from other arcs is back yet again (much in the styling of old sitcoms) and you find yourself being like, "oh, with this guy again...". Season 4...well...
Season 4 feels like the writers got notice there wouldn't be a season 5 and did all they could to wrap up *every* character's arc, dedicating each episode to one or two people getting their conclusion. This telegraphs that the series is ending with the season with that one writing mistake that always calls it out; "Swiper No Swiping" moments. A character might end their relationship just to turn around and get back together an episode later as if they'd developed as a character when in reality not even a full in-world day has passed. A character that was obviously meant to be a Chekov's gun of some sort basically gets thrown into a blender because it's in the way. Having been dead turns into a magical pill to cure both being evil and turns you into medicine to fix mental illness. A character literally has an "oh, by the way, I've been a god the whole time, peace out" moment with absolutely no lead-up or foreshadowing. The "Eldritch Horrors" are introduced as Lovecraftian in nature (to the point the famous author is mentioned by name twice), but are a campy mess that seem more like they are in the writers' way to wrap up character stories by the end (at one point, 'The Great Hereafter' and 'The Void' are identical except for huge, stylized text labels on the wall). The shark-jumping moment is actually when a character goes into what could have been a throwaway gag walk-off involving some of the cast of the original TV show (conspicuously missing a Melissa Joan Hart cameo) in one episode gets turned into another full episode itself just to write off one of the Eldritch Horrors and a character from Season 3. When you rush to conclude all the arcs in a story, it makes it clear that someone announced cancellation or your writers figured out a gambit to write a ton of story to extend a show run didn't work. You also end up focusing so much on those conclusions that you lose your themes; any feminist themes took a hard punch from the awkward way Sabrina's romantic arcs wrap, and one episode was basically a heavy-handed criticism of alt-right conservatism just to get it out there (it even quotes The Crucible directly, to the point I said it aloud before the character said it). Overall, I enjoyed the show's ability to make every episode feel like a movie, but the ending was a convoluted train-wreck to the point that I wasn't even certain that the final episode was truly the last episode until I saw I'd hit the end of the season on the Netflix interface. It's a good watch, but it drops balls at the end like a clumsy person trying to reload a ski-ball machine while holding all of the balls in one arm.

I like supernatural themed shows and had heard good buzz around the story. I knew that many of the positive reviews talked about the feminist angle, but all I cared about was if the show was well written.

Unfortunately the show is a huge let down. The acting is fine. For the most part all of the players do what they can with what they are given. The writing on the other hand . . . is bad. Really bad. Despite being a teenager, Sabrina is better at magic than witches that are hundreds of years older than her. Fine, that goes with the story. I can live with it. What really just drove me insane though is how unlikeable all of the characters are. I loved Hilda Spellman. At times I thought Ambrose was great as well. Beyond that . . . ughs.

A lot of my issues with the characters deals with the type of feminism they have chosen to promote. To me it should be well rounded female and male characters with agency. Instead they went the route of making every single male character stupid, vain, and unlikeable. I mean there are lines that the devil is stupid, controlling, and evil, because of his gender (which they make sure you know is male). They elevate women by tearing down men. It is the laziest type of writing, and it immediately alienated me. The writers also clearly don't know anything about anyone from a rural area. The background characters are all hicks. The miners walk around with coal dust on the faces even when not at the mines. Deer hunting is portrayed as a flat out sinister act. Do the writers understand that we eat animals? Where do they think that comes from? Don't even get me started on Suzie/Theo's "plot." Suzie is picked on. Suzie decides she is actually a man. Suzie is angry that she can't get on the basketball team despite having no athletic ability and being 90lbs soaking wet. The writers decided to jam in a transgendered plot. It has nothing to do with the story narrative, but it is just used to show over and over again how terrible straight white men can be. This series should be cancelled.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was enjoying the premise up until they started with the feminist and the impossibly annoying ultra patriarchy that parodies the mental illness that is the modern feminist movement. A girl gets sexually assaulted and the principle says that she should find another school? I don't know where they drew such fantasy, but it went downhill from there. This had some good potential, but lazy writing destroyed it. Expand

Shouldn't one be notified and explained why? This show has to be the most egregious display of modern identity politics, infecting everything in today's society. I had to force myself to watch at least three episodes to be absolutely sure that it was as bad as I thought. I hated everything about it. The way that Hollywood portrays gay characters is a HUGE stereotype.. harking to the days of the American adaptation of Queer As Folk, apparently, we are all Brian Kenneys (the most promiscuous and amoral sex fiend who has all of the emotional depth of a psychopath) Isn't it ironic that while simultaneously claiming to be championing for inclusivity, Hollywood forces all gay characters into being huge stereotypes. I, as a gay male, am offended by the portrayal of the gay character. While I'm at it, Hollywood needs to realize that T.V. sex scenes are incredibly boring and stupid. The audience that they are so obviously aiming their propaganda towards are the millennials. The generation that has had the most unprecedented access to porn from the internet, ever! What makes the writers think that anyone would be titillated by repeated, protracted and meaningless sex scenes is one of the biggest disconnects from our reality and Hollywood ever. The soft porn, heavy breathing and unrealistic sex scenes are laughable at best and is an other example of how Hollywood is groping and flailing like an inexperienced lover to appear to be sex positive. We still don't see a man full frontal as if our penises are some kind of sacred cow. So much for being progressive and sex positive. Hypocrites, all of them. The identity politics infect this show to such an extent that it really doesn't make any sense at all. The sudden injection of the concept of The White Male Patriarchy as if it was an actual fact and something that everyone is supposed to know and accept as real is worse than Pravda. The wining and complaining that the evil white male school administrator is the most ridiculous cartoon villain ever portrayed since Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle. It's so exaggerated that any critical thinking person would be asking, how can that character even exist in reality without being fired or brought up on charges. Ham fisted identity politics is the climate these days and it seems that no matter how much push back that comes from these minority groups, Hollywood is determined to ram these narratives down our throats. Finally, the violence. My best way of describing the violence in this show is like this. Think of someone telling a children's story... and then suddenly, a Tarantino like violent scene suddenly is injected seemingly out of random. I love a good Horror film and Tarantino is one of my faves but this show seems to use violence and identity politics as if the two go hand in hand. I give this show a 9/10 for propaganda content. It is not necessary to turn the franchise into angsty teen horror. It's just a pathetic parody of Supernatural or Stranger Things. The show deserves a 6 but with some actors lifting it up. I ended up giving it a 7 because of such effort. Plus the costume designers really went out of their way to bring out the wackiness to which is this show. Since the show seems more playful than serious throughout most of it's screen time. You'll either love it, hate it or tolerate it for the interest in the main story line.

It’s funny at times, suspenseful, fun, and brings in many elements of horror. One particular episode where they are celebrating witches Thanksgiving ends in the coven sitting around a dinner table after eating truth cake. It cleverly mimics the family drama of thanksgiving but with a horror/occcult veneer. It’s just a well made show. Expand

There are some dumb globalist/leftist/wokeist/Marxist-revisionist/Leninist politics sprinkled throughout.

Sadly, the creators think that being a witch means you have to be of dark magick, a democrat, and a satanist, which is completely asinine.

Season 3 Review:
The 3rd Season of the Netflix show proves to be darker and bloodier than parts 1 & 2. Kiernan Shipka is still wickedly charming and the 3rd season is the best of the bunch. 7.5 out of 10
