I grew up playing the games, this series has pretty much nothing for me. Transparent writing by an edgy 14 year old. Thebhumour isnt always bad, but it's one note. It's always the same kind of jokes. This season is bad, in the full sense of the word, and the writing is bad, as follows:

* Bad and stupid dialogues and their repetition at times.

* Stupid and bad construction of the main and secondary story characters.

* Slow and boring events significantly in the first half of the season and continue less frequently until the second half of the season.

* Thoughts of events in the first half of the season are repeated in other films or series.

- The fighting in this season is fairly good, but what makes it not interesting is the stupidity of enemies and monsters most of the time.

- The only good thing in this season is the drawing that has evolved from the previous seasons.

This season would have been better if it had been written well.… Expand

Castlevania makes a compelling argument for Warren Ellis never writing another word again. Or at least, for no-one else ever stooping so low as to read it. It is never, over the course of 4 seasons, an interesting story. It is paint-by-numbers done poorly. It is the most basic, unimaginative hero's journey told so sloppy that a fool might mistake it for creativity. It's real, honest garbage. And most of all, ANYONE could do better. He openly admitted he knew nothing about the games and wanted nothing to do with them.

The animation is **** and largely covered up with layers of Adobe polish to hide how poorly drawn it is.

The writer has had over 100 women come forward against him recently so keep that in mind when watching all the lefty wank off themes of this show.

I would say 90% of the positive reviews are just from staff and Netflix trying to promote (save) the show from the garbage bin. The fact that some idiot out there made the decision to commission FOUR **** SEASONS of the same no name writer is **** mind blowing in the breadth of human stupidity. That person genuinely might win stupidest media decision of the decade award. "I know let's give a beloved gaming franchise to some fat British manchild pervert". Morons.

This show is a perfect example of why the Netflix model of pumping out anime is never going to work. If you go with the lowest bidder each time, you will get crap. In terms of animated shows this might be one of the worst I've ever seen. Just name any other anime bar the new Dota **** (same studio) and it is head and shoulders above this crap.… Expand

F***ing hell, where to start. This is so much **** They spend 3 minutes of time in a 30 min episode talking about bestiality. There is no music from the actual games that have been remixed for this. They have ample remixes to choose from on ocremix or even throughout the series where CV3 music has been remixed. Where the Hell is GRANT!? He's one of the first partners to get. Where are the monsters from the game!? No mummies, no skeletons. Where's the red skeleton!?
That F***er's been in nearly every castlevania up to the 3D games.
I get they are building atmosphere, and Dracula seems badass. His summoning is very cool to what EXCEPT who the F*** does he summon? Not pazuzu, not a lesser demon, a bone dragon, jus some unnamed demons never seen with ****ty character design.

Oh, did I mention they left out F***ing Death!? Yes, Dracula's right hand man. Nowhere to be seen at all. During the summoning scene would have been the best time to introduce Death.

Drac woulda been like "come forth my old friend, join me in reaping their souls together."

I can hear all the F***ing neckbeard dickheads who love this piece of **** anime right now being like "OH **** It's Death! I knew it! Those priests done messed up now!"

Instead we got a talking no-named demon killing the head priest. What a F***ing let down.

I swear, Konami was asked the producer: "Hey you ever play the games?"
Producer: "nah, I'm good."
Konami: "ok, F*** those fans. we been doing it for years, 'cept when Iga left." Thank god for Bloodstained being such a triumph over this piece of ****… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is just several hours of dark edgy cynicism, with no respect for the tone of the original games, and constant gore, sexual assault, and racist treatment of its characters of color.

I'm really not exaggerating how racist this show's storytelling is. In the third season, a character named Hector, who is depicted here as a man of color with dark skin, is treated like an animal or a slave by two white female vampires (Carmilla and Lenore). Lenore coerces him into sex and puts a slave ring on him. In the second season Dracula has a council of vampires from all over the world, including vampires of color, but it's suspiciously the white vampires that get all the screentime and development while the vampires of color are slaughtered in an action scene. The character Isaac, who is a black man in this adaptation, has the backstory of being a slave in love with his former master. And that's not even everything...

Watch as beloved characters are turned into constantly arguing idiots who have no honor or love for the people they are supposed to be protecting. Watch as Alucard, who was once a kindhearted stoic who chose to benevolently protect humanity to honor his mother, is turned into a total dickhead who starts impaling people like his father... his father who he's supposed to be the opposite of! Watch as Trevor, a fairly standard hero character from the NES era, is turned into a nihilist alcoholic who makes jokes about beer being better than sex with his girlfriend. Watch as background characters have detailed conversations about bestiality. Watch, and despair, despair that this is what people think Castlevania is.

Just play the video games, and let this game of thrones knockoff rot… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I remember being so excited after watching season 1. Alucard, Sypha, and Trevor looked so bad ass. Dracula was intimidating and sympathetic. SEason 2; Dracula is an idiot and Carmilla takes his place. Also enter Isaac and Hector from Curse of Darkness. Hector is one of the most powerful characters in Castlevania lore and yet somehow is a complete idiot in comparison to all characters in this show who all show no capability of critical thinking whatsoever. Season 3 is an absolute joke. I tried. I really did. Every character acts and talks like a 13 year old. Alucard gets passively **** in the ass and acts sad all the time. Hector is just the dumbest **** thing I've ever seen even after 2 full seasons. The only characters worth following are Trevor and Sypha but this show hardly focuses on them. Season 3 is the last I'll watch. It's so disappointing after the fast and crazy 4 episodes of season 1 to the slow and cringey 10 or so episodes of season 2 and 3. Castlevania follows all modern tv show scripts; honey dick you in episode 1 with fun action only to have nothing but cringe worthy sex scenes and dialogue for 8 episodes to follow up with hollow action for 2 episodes with no resolution. Much like Alucard I feel **** after dealing with this show… Expand

Castlevania. Exactly as I imagined as a kid and although the first season doesn't have the Castlevania feel yet, the second season delivers it. The first four episodes had me so hyped that I binged watched it several times.

Uncensored, follows the Castlevania storyline in it's own way, gave in depth personalities to characters like Sypha Belnades, Alucard and Richter Belmont, has awesome soundtrack even Bloody Tears, etc.

I didn't watch it, when it first appeared on my Netflix account, because I watched too many Vampire themed stuff and got burned out by emotionless dudes being all powerfull and sexy. But people kept praising Castlevania, so I had to take a look:

The vampire stuff is pretty much the same, just the most powerful ones are a little bit more humane e.g. have emotions. You'll see a badass women from the start, which gave me hope for refreshing strong female roles in this anime. The reasoning of the antagonists are understandable, which is sadly rare.

The heroes throuple is basically the same as in Samurai Champloo: two dudes fighting with each other and a cute women between them. I like that she isn't helpless, compared to the dudes.

The overall style and sound is lovingly put together. I find myself looking closely to the landscape, because it's frequently gorgeous.… Expand

Simply epic. Western anime doesn't get much better than this. Just finished season 4 (the final season), and for the first time I can recall, a horror -- anime or otherwise -- managed to make me teary (in episodes 9 and 10). The story isSimply epic. The story is surprisingly sophisticated, and the dialogue, voice acting, and animation are all top-notch. There is a LOT of gore, so this is not a show for the squeamish (and definitely not for kids).

That said, it's by no means *all* gore; there is definitely story and character-building, and the writers did a great job of humanizing characters... even the non-human ones. The show spends time fleshing out the main characters, so the drama has some, uh, teeth. If you're an anime fan who appreciates a great story with interesting characters, this is a must-see.… Expand

Season one and two are brilliant. I couldn't have ever imagined that there will be created such a great Castlevania tv series. Brilliant soundtrack, and great animation. Absolutely worth watching.

I came in thinking it would be garbage because, 1 it's a video game adaptation and 2 the only thing I know about Castlevania is that ricker is in smash and uses a holy whip and Dracula throws wine glasses. After a halfbaked first season and a very average second season, they finally got it right with season three! The dialogue and plot have improved lightyears from the first two seasons. I am 100% on board to see where this story goes next :)

Although I don't really like what they did in the third season starting with the multiple lines of the story and how they managed them. Also what they did with ALucard's story line is just sad. The story and plot, however, was poorly paced and filled with cringeworthy dialogue.

Then of course, the Castlevania franchise is well-known for its great musical score which makes it baffling how little of it was used in this show. Save for a couple of tunes, the score was mostly generic and unmemorable.

Around the end of Season 2 the show's story derails and becomes a chore to watch. It's very annoying to witness an art department being so loyal to the franchise while the writer could only muster to peek at Wikipedia for reference, only then to go on and write something completely unrelated instead...… Expand

Based around the events that transpire within Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, the anime is unfortunately directed by a man adamant about knowing nothing about the series, not wanting anything to do with it while ironically wanting to depictBased around the events that transpire within Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, the anime is unfortunately directed by a man adamant about knowing nothing about the series, not wanting anything to do with it while ironically wanting to depict Castlevania with bare minimum knowledge of events throughout the franchise. A strung together nightmare of nihilistic, worthless plot twist original characters with amazing animation wasted on what feels like filler for an anime that has surpassed its manga counterpart, the anime has an inherent failure to coherently acknowledge and engage long time fans while acting as an introduction to new ones with the bare minimum knowledge of the entire franchise. What little plot follows Trevor Belmont's battle against Dracula and post is obscured by insistent and jarring cuts between various characters and numerous, dramatic changes done to the canon. Most notably, Devil Forgemasters Isaac and Hector are introduced from Castlevania Curse of Darkness with whole new backstories and skin tones, none of the classic universal or folklore monsters or bosses would make an appearance, the fourth major party member and fan favorite character Grant Dynasty was completely removed and replaced by a nobody character named Greta due to the creators bias of Pirates in Wallachia sounding "ridiculous" and Dracula's personality was completely butchered, neglecting his past as Mathias Cronqvist as well as lacking his powerful presence that is far more present in other incarnations of Dracula such as the Rosario Vampire manga and Hellsing Ultimate. As depressing as it is to say, the show is a shell of its former glory, having nothing to define itself among the horde of generic video game spinoff anime's and showered with praise by people similar to the creator, having little to no knowledge of the series. If there's anything to enjoy about this adaptation, it would have to be the personality of the three main leads, as well as the incredible battles and music.… Expand
