    The second season of Castlevania is just incredible. The powerful animation, art direction, composing and voice overs that made the first (albeit short) season so mouthwatering. This is a slower burn than the the first and spme will be disappointed by the fact that it's not constant fights. But the fights that are there are chock full of cool coreography and animated extremely well.The second season of Castlevania is just incredible.     Castlevania season two is a brilliantly executed modern take on the classic tale of Dracula that is absolutely worth your time. It vastly improves on the foundations laid in season one, bringing to live a wonderfully executed tale of loss, regret, rage, betrayal and violence. Shifting the focus away from the adventurers to instead Dracula and his court, this season focuses more on theCastlevania season two is a brilliantly executed modern take on the classic tale of Dracula that is absolutely worth your time. It vastly improves on the foundations laid in season one, bringing to live a wonderfully executed tale of loss, regret, rage, betrayal and violence. Shifting the focus away from the adventurers to instead Dracula and his court, this season focuses more on the nature of Dracula's madness and those whom aid him in his cause. Meanwhile, the adventurers struggle to survive and attain the means to confront Dracula.

    Action scenes are fantastically choreographed and thrilling to watch and far more numerous than season one, although well spaced to maximize their narrative impact and tension. Building to a thrilling conclusion built atop a series of masterfully executed character stories, our cast of players are fully fleshed, flawed, relatable and lifelike.

    I can say with full confidence that Castlevania season 2 is the best interpretation of the classic vampire tale since Bram Stoker's Dracula, and in many ways actually surpasses it. Unmissable and well worth sitting through the less competent but nonetheless entertaining season one.

    10/10, though with the minor caveat that the squeamish will find the extreme violence on display quite disconcerting, though never unnecessary.    … Expand

The second season gives me the impression that they were playing it safe and even toned down some of the limbs that the first season ventured onto that in my view, made Castlevania stand out. I even re watched the first season in order to have the narrative fresh in my mind. I'll just come out and say it, Cypher annoyed the heck out of me. Before all of you SJW knuckle heads start crying misogyny, the two main female characters fill two classic misogynistic roles. One is supposed to be a very wise scholarly type that in actual portrayal, behaves like a whining adolescent child. It would have been refreshing to see a strong female character instead like say, Xena Warrior Princess without all of the bustiers. The second female role follows yet an other Lady Macbeth stereotype. So the two examples of women are the highly educated and sassy Cypher whose only strength comes from her powers, and has the emotional maturity of an adolescent longing for a father figure in romance. The second female role is the," Femme Fatal" type that is insipid, deceitful, calculating, manipulative and power hungry while secretly vying to betray allegiance in order to steal power. The relationship between Trevor Belmont and Cypher was so per-ordained and followed such a well worn out dynamic of being annoyed with each other then, ultimately falling in love that it just pissed me off. It gives one the feeling that the show was dumbed down. While re-watching the first season, I don't know if my memory is playing tricks on me or what but the scene where the Bishop meets his demise, it seems as though part of the graphic part of that scene was cut out to make it less , well, graphic. Maybe some religious types complained I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised. The plot and dialog all followed the most conventional of story telling that I was rather bored of it all by the time our hero's camped out in the Belmont family Library/vault.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I hate to be Negative Nancy but the great production values and gory action couldn't stop me from being disappointed in season 2. In any traditional story, the desire to see the protagonist succeed and the fear that they might fail is what creates dramatic tension. In season 2 of Castlevania, the three protagonists are put into narrative limbo, spending virtually the entire season studying in the basement of the Belmont manor. These eight episodes are almost entirely focused on an intrigue plot about Carmilla trying to overthrow Dracula. The problem is: Carmllia and Dracula both want to destroy humanity, they are both antagonists, and the audience ultimately wants both of them to fail. Whichever one of them succeeds in inconsequential, since the heroes will eventually have to leave their basement and kill the ultimate bad guy. Therefore, there is no narrative tension for the entire intrigue plot.
    It also ends up being mostly inconsequential to the story anyway. After they lock it down, the characters show up to Dracula's Castle and kick his ass, just like they would have if none of the Camellia stuff had happened.    … Expand

    It was great a must watch for any longtime fan! They really breathed life into some pretty cookie cuter characters that have come and gone over the years. And it REALLY stayed true to the lore, in a lot of great ways. No spoilers but the ending is a real tear jerker for myself

    I love the first season so it wouldn't be a surprise that I would enjoy the second season. I binge watch this season only to start watching it again lol I would recommend this series for anybody into Castlevania, anime or both.

It has a great amount of fan-service that fans of the franchise will appreciate, and it will add a layer of enjoyment, but it isn't necessary to enjoy this series. The contrast between Alucard and Trevor is note perfect and strikes a distinctive balance to the narrative. Also, Dracula's motivations are unpacked in a manner where you actually side with him at times, which is a smart way to tell this story. The political machinations of the vampire underworld also add an unexpected complexity to the series in way that lets it play out in slow, but purposeful way. When the action does pick up it feels earned and exciting as a result of its pacing. This is absolutely the best video-game adaption of any medium ever made, which sounds hyperbolic, but if you are a gamer who has been let down time after time with shoddy adaptions, which change everything to the point the work could be called something else and not miss a beat, you are in for a real treat. I would call this a 9 for people who just want to watch an amazing series of anime that has exceptional writing that rivals any fantasy novel out right now, and a 10 for the game fans that will smile when Trevor Belmont finds out what is in that treasure chest at the Belmont castle. A can't miss adventure for fans of the series, and a great piece of fantasy horror for literally any fan of those genres.… Expand

    The second season of Castlevania is surprisingly amazing and surpassed my expectations. It has charismatic and well-development characters, great plot and dialogues, and a frenetic climax that closes in an incredible way the story begun in the first season. And best of all: it has MORE episodes!!!

    The show is has great visuals, amazing fight choreography, and pays tribute to the games without being overtly trying to please the game fanbase. It's simply put a great show that somehow manages to capture the visceral feel of the game while transcending it in both narrative and character development.

    The only reason I'm not giving it a perfect 10 is because it get a little slow around the middle of the second season, but finishes strong. Also, half the characters have a really annoying little tendril of hair that hangs down in front of their face. It seems minor, but is rather annoying and I just want to cut it off. :-)    … Expand

    So. Good. The animation is amazing, the character development is phenomenal, the fight scenes are the best I've ever seen. The only reason i didnt give it a 10 is for not having a main openly gay character.

    Season 2 was a longer set of 8 episodes (25-min each), and like season 1 was really engaging and full of both art and story detail. Still a fine animated series that isn't dumbed down. I really liked season 1, and this second season was doing great until episode 7, the big faceoff between Dracula and son Alucard. Also this must be said, now that misogyny is out of favor, writers have swung the other direction to promote misandry! What?! Why does there have to be either? It's just lazy storytelling and it'll piss off the main demographic, so additional points off for that. Finally, yes, I get the epic animated battles/fights, but come on, Sypha comes off as a master wizard which is ridic, and Trevor and Alucard make it through hordes of huge demons with minor scratches, again, ridic. Why bother with all that activity if they're going to come out of it no worse for the wear of it all? Again, poor storytelling. I'm stating the obvious here, but more than ever, this isn't small kid appropriate, I'd say it's 14+. There will be a season 3 apparently, and I'll likely watch but I'm not stoked about it given what I've described.… Expand

The wizard guy who we've been following all season jumps into the hallway and we just never hear from him again seemingly. We follow this vampire girl torturing and seducing the hellforge guy for the entire season only for it to end in "he's my slave by magic".. well why the **** didn't you do that from the start? In the final episode all the character development and bonding between characters gets thrown out the window in an act of abject nihilism, completely unreasonable behavior from all parties concerned. It's as if they fired all the writers and for the last episode got an edgy 15 year old teenager wrote it to prove how terrible people are. Garbage "subverting expectations" ****… Expand

    why did they have to kill dracula in this season already he is pretty much all the castlevania series is about.

    esta temporada, ha sido muy buena. el autor no se contenta con el solo gore de la primera temporada, sino que hay más desarrollo de personajes. lo mejor para mi ha sido todas las conspiraciones en el castillo de drácula. espero con ansias la tercera temporada.

The voice casting was really good, the characters had a huge development even compared to the games and the producers managed to keep a good show, balancing drama with fighting. However, some major changes to Hector and Isaac caused an awkward effect in the plot, because the original ones could perfectly fit in the series storyline, but they still preferred to change them for whatever reason.… Expand

    Besides that, they keep u 6 episodes preparing u for a plot that won't happend.

    The worst Netflix Show that I've seen and a waste of a great license. Season 2 has loads of issues. ART: The art is choppy most of the time and just has character mouth movements. There are a few times where there are some great cinematic shots and a few good fights. Most of the time, the animation is stiff and looks like it is running at 12fps. Just about every action anime has better combat than this.
    STORY: The church is the main bad guy. Dracula is a suicidal emo. The main characters act like middle schoolers who just learned the F word. I just want to reiterate the CHURCH is the villain in Castlevania. For the first 5 episodes, the main characters sit around in a library telling unfunny jokes while the vampires plan to betray each other. Carmella starts killing vampires and betrays Dracula because women are oppressed in his castle even though we never see women in his castle. In the end, there are a few good fights, but it really doesn't matter. There was no build up to anything. The main characters could have just stayed in the library for the entire series and nothing would have been different.
    CHARACTERS
    There is no chemistry between any of the characters and their accents are all over the place. Belmont is a drunken fool who stinks like pee.
    Alucard is a sad kid with daddy issues.
    Sypha is a church hating magic user who acts 12 and lacks wisdom.
    Carmella is a vampiric Admiral Holdo.
    Dracula is disengaged with the story and mopes in his chair. This is not a joke.
    Isaac is the gay S&M black guy who enslaves white guys.
    Hector can raise the dead by hitting a table with a hammer. He ends up following Admiral Holdo on a leash.

    This trash is worse than The Last Jedi. Don't waste your time.    … Expand

    Season 2 is such a massive step up from the first season. Increasing the number of episodes really helped develop the characters and story. The animation remains as stunning as it was in the first season and the violence is bound to excite a lot of die-hard fans. It makes me very excited for season 3.

    Not surprised. With the first “season” of 30 min episodes x3 spending 3 minutes of Trevor listening to two drunks talk about bestiality I knew this was going to be a discrace to the source material.

    Where to start. Grant Dinesti is not even in the **** show. There is a clocktower of sorts with no tie whatsoever. This being a character that had spiderman like abilities and all players tried to use at least once. Alucard is thebiteration from SOTN, who seems to spam the Alucard sword special attack even when not holding the sword, also the Alucard sword now functions as the sword familiar only with mind controlled movements and without any of the cool sentience from SOTN. I was actually hoping for CVIII transylvanian widowed peak mini-me dracula who used the ball of destruction that some who turned Aryan featured ala micheal jackson by the end. I mean with all the other stupid **** here it would work.

    Hector from Curse of Darkness shows up and seems to be a mixture of Joachim and Hector only he is a necromancer. Isaac is not black and we inly see him use his forging skill once. Isaac is a badass fighter superior to most vampires it seems and Hector cant fight???

    Carlevania now has a warp drive that can be remotely hacked by an inexperienced mage.

    Vampires can be killed by single sword cuts by the end of the series.

    Trevors morningstar has an infinitely exploding tip. He uses no other subweapons. No badass cross, holy water, axe, bibuti

    Dracula uses one spell and not other magic when fighting the trio, and never uses a demon form. Also, in season I, he summons an entire army od demons himself, wtf does he need forge master for?

    While slogra and gaibon make a short appearance, their fictional background as written in the Castlevania Bathroom was not expanded upon.

    Sadly, the character of Death was gone copletely like Grant. Maybe he was too busy being 40,000 years from hence and hanging with Galamoth, who also doesnt make an appearance.

    The fight scenes for Carmillas forces were appalling. Strangely, elite forces of vampire lords move and die like regular humans.

    Count Olrox didnt make an appearance either. Which this series would have been a great opportunity to expand his backstory.

    Lots of of the final fight takes place in a library with no master librarian to be found nor any enspelled books.

    The journey to Castlevania becomes *poof* you’re there instead of multiple levels on the way and saving/waking the alternate characters. No pirate ship :( which was the best stage to use grant as he was a pirate back in the day.

    Absolutely no backstory for any vampire generals except for f-ing Godbrand. All the token ethnic vampires are silent. So call SJW all u want, this **** is still white washed even with changing Isaac to a melanin rich skin tone.

    This show is a steaming pile of ****.

    Thank god Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night came out and is such an f-ing triumph over this garbage that Konami has signed up for.

    There was soooooo much wonderful starting poonts they could have tied to the games. But the creators were lazy, and it shows.

    Criticism for the characters staying in a library forever while the plot drags on however kudos for keeping to the plausibility that answers would take a long time ti find in that jumble of information.

    The few redeaming qualities: the church is bad and the show pulls no stops in showing the horror and stupidity of inquisition type religions. We so root for Dracula when he smites the bishop and co.

    they do actually show alucards room which many gamers speculate even existed. Additionally this room turns dracula from his madness which was great and poignant.

    At the end isaac is making an army, hector is serving carmilla and Castlevania is wrecked and rooted to the spot effectively making it just a castle rather than Castlevania.

    It is hard to put into words the revulsion and rising of bile that watching this drivel to the end has inspired within me.

    I am saddened for those who have enjoyed this as they are chattel being fed cast of rotting rinds of a beatuful masterpiece that has been butchered and tainted.

    I curse those enjoy this venom and poison riddled show. I meditate on wishing the creators could have their skin peeled off and their entrails vivisected while tortuously awake for this is what they deserve for their arrogance and sacrilege to one of the best horror action video games ever created. The work of the producers is a slap in the face to the talent and hard work of the game developers, programmers, art designers, and sound composers.

    This series is a wasted opportunity and a failure of the creators. This pathetic example of poorly directed **** is a festering cancer.    … Expand

    As entertaining as the first season was, it was mostly setup. Dracula only appears in the beginning. This season pays off your patience as it successfully builds upon and concludes the events from before.

    Considering how sparsely we saw Dracula last and how nebulous his army was, I was pleased that the focus was mostly put on him this time. We get to meet his generals, all with unique personalities and goals. Dracula is rather interesting in his desire to end humanity. Rather than go with the traditional villain goals and plans, he is a fully tragic figure, a man who has lost all faith in anything and is spiraling. The heroic trio of vampire hunter Trevor, sorceress Sylpha, and Dracula's son Alucard work really well off of each other, especially the two guys who have a whole frenemy thing going on. There's of character development and backstory here, but unfortunately the action mostly doesn't happen till the end. There is a LOT of people planning, debating, and researching.

    Comic book veteran Warren Ellis does well with most of the dialogue. However, when there are regular old-fashioned human protagonists, such as corrupt priests or thieves, it is as forced and over-the-top as it was last season. Luckily there is a lot less of that here.

    The action that does happen is quite good. The final battle in particular is worth the wait. I'm also pleased to say the backgrounds are a little more colorful. There's a lot less of the constant brownish red from last season.

    Voice acting is solid all around. The VIP is surprisingly Peter Stomrarre (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Prison Break) in a semi-humorous role as a viking vampire.    … Expand

The 1st season delivered more than I could ask for unfortunately the 2nd season was a snore fest with cringey dialogue, stupid characters, and predictable events.     Seems to be an animation of people talking for a long time, with just their lips moving, and vampires seem to have very few facial expressions. Story line did not disappoint but they seemed to loose track with the night creatures, in the first season they came down with a rain of blood and they were not all brainless creatures, the dialog before they killed the cardinal was amazing, on the second season they seem brainless but failed to explain why forge masters have that power. The most epic moment was on the pre-final battle when "Bloody tears" started to sound! wow... Not to mention the Epic ending... Whats not to like? superb! I cant wait for a third season.… Expand

    As a Castlevania fan, I enjoyed it, there are elements and references that generates a better atmosphere. However, it lacked action, it waited until the sixth chapter to get into it. Also, 7 chapters to finally use an original video game song it's too much.

    There was more filler of just wasting time with depressed Dracula or the heroes sitting in a library. The dialogue was horrible, and I don't care what people say about, "It was meant to sound more organic," that is a very fancy way of saying lazy writing and recording... and it honestly gets worse as it goes.

    What feels really dumb to say is one thing I would wish for is actually filler dialogue. The episode with the fight against Dracula is just so stale. Filled with sound effects, grunts, and uncertain conversations. Really, go look up the script for S2E07, it has one redeemable moment of dialogue, and that is it.

    I at least like the direction this show can possibly go, and think it has potential, but to say it's perfect and amazing... Was the bar really lowered that much?    … Expand

    All of this heady material slows the pace down a bit, but the excellently animated action sequence (of which there are plenty to enjoy) give each episode a nice punch-up. All in all, these eight new episodes of Season 2 will give you everything you wanted from Castlevania and more.
