Not many shows manage to keep my interest from start to finish, especially ones with 5 seasons. At some point they tend to go off-track, whether in terms of character behavior, or plot.

Very few shows in recent memory had me so hooked from the very start that before the week was over the whole show had been watched, especially when for a lot of shows now airing watching one episode all the way through can be an endeavour. 'Breaking Bad' had that effect on me, and its reputation as one of the best, consistently brilliant and most addictive shows in many years (maybe even ever) is more than deserved in my eyes. Its weakest season is perhaps the first season, understandable as any show's first season is the one where things are still settling.

Actually everything is established remarkably from the very start, but once the writing and characterisation becomes even meatier the show reaches even higher levels.

Visually, 'Breaking Bad' is one of those shows that is both stylish and beautiful, with photography and editing that are cinematic quality and put a lot of films today to shame, where there are a lot of visually beautiful ones but also some painfully amateurish looking ones. The music always has the appropriate mood, never too intrusive, never too muted.

The writing for 'Breaking Bad' is a fine example to all shows of how to have a lot of style but also to have a lot of substance. The dialogue throughout is thought-provoking and tense, while also have a darkly wicked sense of humour and heart-tugging pathos. The stories are texturally rich, intimate, tense and layered, with the pace of them consistently deliberate but taut. The direction couldn't be better.

Can't say anything bad about the acting. Bryan Cranston is phenomenal as one of the most fascinating anti-heroes, or even of any kind of character, in either film or television. Aaron Paul has never been better and Anna Gunn is affecting. The characters are compelling in their realism.

Overall, describing it as brilliant doesn't do 'Breaking Bad' justice. 10/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

This series offers surprise after surprise, plot twist after plot twist. An intelligent program that just happens to be very fun to watch as well. This is truly a master class in writing, cinematography and acting. So different from everything else, and so emotionally impactfull. La forma en que hank descubre a Walter es casi una tomada de pelo, ni hablar del choque de aviones del final de la segunda temporada justo , justo cae el peluche en la piscina, sin mencionar que de todas las personas del mundo de walt se encontró justo con el padre de Jane en el bar
Breaking Bad era excelente pero muchos de esos conflictos inician de manera facilita , pero creo que la gente los deja pasar por qué es muy famosa y la mayoría no saben de guión, Breaking bad tiene vários (como ese gran deus ex-machina en el que se basa la revelación ha Hank al final de la primera parte de la quinta temporada).
También por ejemplo que Walter haya podido hacer una ametralladora con movimiento, cuando el es químico, no mecánico avanzado.
Esto no tendría un planting narrativo, ya que con anterioridad no se había mostrado que walter white superiera hacer eso.

O por ejemplo cuando en face off Gustavo frink no se subio al carro como si tuviera una especie de sentido arácnido. O lo inverosimil que es Gustavo frink tenga solo media cara quemada de hecho lo opuesto a dónde estaba la bomba, ahora me preguntó por qué todos los cuerpos quedaron rotos, hasta Héctor salamanca quedo sin una pierna y Gustavo frink solo media cara quemada!? A pero claro como fue épico el fandom de breaking bad se lo perdona.

Fanservice: Jesse se salva y Walter se sale con la suya de manera inverosímil a pesar de morir

conveniencias de guion: No solo le sale todo bien a Walter sino que asesina a todos con el deus ex máquina incluyendo a Lidia, da el dinero a los empresarios , etc etc etc etc

Clichés: Escena demasiado trillada en Hollywood del tipo que mata a todos saliéndose con la suya como duro de matar, Rambo, etc, como el cine de acción más convencional Y muchísimas cosas más… Expand

Hear me out. I was constantly told how smart and good of a show it was by friends, family and media. So I watched the first season, but then stopped just before the third season out of boredom. I finally finished the show, and I can't expressHear me out. I was constantly told how smart and good of a show it was by friends, family and media. So I watched the first season, but then stopped just before the third season out of boredom. I finally finished the show, and I can't express how disappointed I am. There were very few stellar moments, and most of those were in the first season. Here are my major gripes with the show:

Characters IMO the most important aspect of a show, and BB does not have many interesting or well developed characters. Skyler is an unrealistically **** wife. Jesse is made out to be overly stupid and simplistic, with random emotional outbursts used to cheaply propel the otherwise stagnant plot points. The show tries to hard to make him look stupid, which prevents him from ever saying anything meaningful or deep.

Walt is an absolute mess of a character. Seasons 1-4 he's a bumbling, nerdy, sympathetic character and then season 5 he turns into a "monster" because the show demands it. Most supporting characters are one-dimensional. The "why" for Walt's actions disappears after season 1, and then is only given in season 5 as a fan-service by regurgitating what forums/reviewers mentioned as a sort of "yeah, that's what we meant all along". Yet the argument for the lust for power isn't supported by the actual show, since there aren't many examples of Walt feeling powerful, or becoming empowered by making meth. He's always scared for his life, answering to bigger dogs.

Jesse's friends are just stereotypical meth-heads, zero depth. The coolest bad guy, Tuco, dies way too early.

Gus is just silent/ruthless, so underdeveloped for the sake of "mystery". Contrast this with Ben Linus from LOST who plays a similar character, except way more believably and to far better results.

There's a constant revolving door of characters because, hey, half of the non-essential characters were killed last season for shock value.

2. The Pacing After the very good first season, the show starts rinsing and repeating the same formula:

"Jesse, we need 2 cook" -> someone makes an unrealistically stupid mistake that puts the boys in trouble -> buddy hijinks galore -> "Chemistry **** haha" -> walt has lie to skyler.

Throw some "artistic" shots of NM fauna, awkward breakfast scenes, expository dialogue, and you've got a seasons 2-4. Also, there is very little good dialogue, it's usually just expository and rarely characterizes the characters beyond their initial caricature-izations. The show just drags on, and intense episodes are a rarity.

3. The lack of Intellectualism Besides some "smart" references (Levoisier, some chemistry tidbits) there is nothing smart about the show. Scenes are always screaming at you (This guy is a jerk! Look at how jerky he is! did you notice!! Oh, Look at how angry this character is!!! LOOK!!! CAN YOU SEE????? The show assumes the viewer is retarded and just highlights everything to the point of silliness. It lacked subtlety, and without subtlety there is no complexity.

4. Nothing is explained. Nothing. What is Gus's motivation. What is Mikes motivation, what happened, who is his daughter? What happened at Grey Matter? Anything meaningful about Walt's past.

5. The Bad Guys Shallow. One-dimensional. Temporary. Unexplained. After Tuco's brilliant and temporary tenure, Gus was just an underwhelming attempt at "mysterious" and was totally unexplained, which was super annoying. Why does Gus do what he does? Does he have a family? What caused him to act all robotic and ruthlessly? What was he like in Chile? What was his relationship like with the "hermano" that the Cartel killed? Why?

So, could you please change my view?… Expand

Breaking Bad is a bad version of Sopranos. I dont get all the praise this show have gotten. There is nothing new for you on this show. Just cliches. They cook meth and hide from the police. Boardwalk empire is the best mafia series ever. This and sopranos are not good tv shows. You can watch The Godfather trilogy and The Departed and you got anything Breaking Bad and Sopranos want to show you.

I wont write much about the plot, for I dont want to spoil anything.

The first three seasons are great - more or less. Starting in the third season the plot gets really stretched out, the character development gets thinner and thinner - allI wont write much about the plot, for I dont want to spoil anything.

In my eyes the first two seasons were great, the third one mediocre and the last two plain bad. All in all this leaves me with a mediocre 4 as a rating. If i knew, how bad the last two seasons were, I would have stopped watching after season 3 - in that case I would have rated the series with a 7 maybe an 8. But the last two seasons really drag the whole rating down.… Expand

Extremely overrated. I would say watch the first season, and then you've seen what you need to see. It's clear the writers didn't have a plan after that. Cranston and Paul are fun to watch, but doesn't really have legs.

Almost a very good show. The last season is the best, because Walter is not such an annoying pusy anymore. Sometimes the characters acted illogical, the reason were to tell a story and make a drama. This is a common problem in such shows. But here it was ridiculous sometimes, because the show is serious and not like Married with Children or Scrubs.

I finally had time to rewatch "Breaking Bad", and it has been just as fun as the first time. Definitely one of the best TV series ever made in terms of writing, direction, and acting. Popular series tend to grow stale over time, but theI finally had time to rewatch "Breaking Bad", and it has been just as fun as the first time. Definitely one of the best TV series ever made in terms of writing, direction, and acting. Popular series tend to grow stale over time, but the quality is uniform throughout the five seasons here. Everything is crafted so carefully that even the subplots and fillers are worth it. It's basically a crime drama with a lot of focus on exploring the depths of all characters. It's not a new formula but has the perfect balance between action, black comedy, introspection and tragedy. The cast is what makes this series so unique: even though the spot is on Walter and Jesse, the side characters are just as iconic and meticulously written that even potentially boring daily life sequences and family drama events are entertaining. Gus is one of the best villains in television history, but does he really count as a villain? I understand that he could not stay around forever, but after he is gone I couldn't help feeling the void that he left. Hank didn't get the same recognition, but I personally thought that in the end he was one of the most likable and multifaceted characters, and the one with the most realistic development.

Even though I enjoyed the whole series, the first two seasons are by far the best in terms of pacing, development and realism. It's impossible not to binge-watch mid-season one to early season three. Things get bigger and more complicated in later seasons, but basically rely on the same structure and situations of the first two. Season three and four introduce great characters like Gus and Mike, but season finales apart the pacing significantly slows down. A lot of situations also start to repeat themselves: Walter and Skyler have the same conversations every single time, Jesse gets manipulated by Walter and turns against him when finding out, Jesse loses himself and gets saved by Walter in some unorthodox way, etc. Season five tries to change the game a little and mostly succeeds, the second part in particular offers a lot of great moments as all storylines start to close. The ending was maybe a bit low-key, but it felt like the right thing to do without getting too unrealistic and leaving loose ends.… Expand

I haven't had a show I watched all the series in 1 week. The story god damn great . And at the time I didnt see the sopranos. And no matter what I still Bryan Cranston in my eye will always be Hal . And Aron Paul great as always

Spellbinding tense thriller that marks one of the most alarming descents into evil on television. It's filled with stirring performances from Cranston, Gunn and Paul. It's not a masterpiece in my books but it is damn near close.
