I knew this show would be good when I first saw the trailer, but I didn't think it would be amazing. I loved it. The acting was phenomenal especially Danny's actor, the writing was great, the cinematography was nice, the music was chilling, it was intense, and very well-paced.

Turned to Bloodline when it became more and more apparent that House of Cards was getting closer and closer to jumping the shark. Bloodline is a terrific show, well written, superbly casted and acted. Some of the negative reviews seem to focus on the slow burn kind of pace of the show, but I found it pretty compelling right of the gate and think it's very evenly paced.

Ben Mendelsohn as the bad seed offspring of Sissy Spacek and Sam Shephard was brilliant. The story is about as dark as it can get, but isn't there always one wayward son in every large family? It was beautifully filmed and acted, although why Mendelsohn is barely mentioned in the credits here, was in a good number of scenes, and while you might be afraid of what he was going to do next, he overtook just about everyone, except Sam Shepgard who still steals every scene he is in with that aging charisma he has. The writing is spot on. It puts most family TV sagas to shame. I am one of the people who appreciates "slow food" in movies. 13 episodes was great. Do more of this quality please, Netflix! Expand

Bloodline is such a compelling adult family drama and the writing and pace feels right in this show, nothing too slow nor too fast, just naturally enough to reveal bits and bits of the plot.

The use of flash forwards and flash backs is cleverly used and makes this show more intriguing to watch. The character development is brilliantly well done and I loved how one character's decision will affect everybody else and the plot that it makes this show more interesting as it goes by.

My favorite part of the show was the cast performances from Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini, Ben Mendelsohn and Sissy Spacek. Kyle Chandler played John Rayburn so perfectly and because of this, I have interest in watching his previous show Friday Night Lights. Linda Cardellini played Meg Rayburn so great as well. She played the character who is nice and wants to help whenever she can even though she can't solve everything and Cardellini captures those emotions so well. Ben Mendelsohn is my favorite actor in the show. He manages to play Danny Rayburn, a shady character that I used to sympathize so brilliantly that he deserves an Emmy nomination. Lastly, Sissy Spacek played the matriarch of the Rayburn family Sally so well and she captures the emotions of a mother who wants everything back to normal and is glad to see her son coming back.

The writing is great and consistent, the directing is flawless and also consistent and the cinematography is so beautiful and rich to watch.

Bloodline is Netflix's answer to HBO's True Detective with its compelling character development, consistent pace, excellent cast peformances, great writing, consistent directing and beautiful cinematography.

And I was thinking that Dexter was the perfect series. When I finished Dexter I was searching for some new series and none of them got my attention. When Netflix introduce this series I expecting a boring cliche type plot but NO. This is clearly my favorite show and I finished it during Spring Break. If you're looking for an intense or interesting series than this is for you. Worth my damn time.

I just finished season one and I loved it. The reason I gave a score rating 8 is because Ben Mendelsohn was the show and he was amazing and the writers decided to kill him of the show. Bad choice. Yes all the other actors are good but this was Ben Mendelsohn's show. Bring him back.

We quickly identify his Danny as the central antagonist, but as the series progresses it is clear that no one in the Rayburn clan is truly innocent. Unrighted wrongs and the ripple effects of decisions from the distant past drive the drama. Every episode ratchets up the intrigue and intensity and by the fifth hour the hooks are in. I've read some of the critics' reviews complaining about the characters being generically drawn types. I think this is by design. At the onset we see the Rayburns as the caricatures the authors intended. Slowly their true motivations and nuanced flaws emerge and the talent of the cast is allowed to emerge. Nevertheless after the first episode one wonders how the show runners can get out of the box they've constructed for themselves. Surely this show can only last a single season. In this sense the show is a grand magic trick. I've completed all 13 episodes and let me just say the writers have pulled off an escape act that would make even Houdini proud. Expand

Visitors know that there is only one road in and one road out -- much like the journey of the main tortured character played by actor, Ben Mendelsohn. His character, Danny, almost leaves several times, only to return -- a familiar compulsion for those of us who inhabit the Keys. I would be very surprised to hear the writers didn't grow up there as well, or, at least, not spend a ton of time there.

I also think the show is a great teaching vehicle on the dangers of booze. Just like the real people who live in the keys, the characters are all alcoholics. And every bad decision made is all fueled by booze. Daddy Rayburn was a drunk. That's what fueled his rage that drove his wife away, kept his kids at a distance and caused him to nearly beat his oldest son to death. Kevin's a drunk and he's often blasted, pissed off, or both. Sally the mom has cocktails every day, the ladies get together for drinks, John the cop drinks 5 fingers of bourbon neat.

The drug side of the story is part of the keys story too, but the real moral of Bloodline is: Alcohol destroys lives. Alcohol destroys families.

BTW--the most fun I ever had with booze, was in the Keys. We used to hop in the convertible on a Saturday, and drive to Key West, stopping every few miles at one of hundreds of roadside bars that offer "Drinks to go."

We'd be pretty lit up by the time we arrived in Key West, where public drunkedness is encouraged. Duval Street on any Saturday night is iNSANE, and the sunset festival every night is made even more bun by being booze soaked.

I've owned plenty of pleasure boats too, and for my money, there is no better place on the planet for their use than in the Keys. Great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. 5 Stars for Bloodline.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This has to be one of the best series I've seen in ages! What a fantastic plot (which could be somewhat believable actually)....loved how pieces of the past were slowly brought to light in most episodes so you could understand the events and emotions going on in the "present"...all excellently done.

The acting was spectacular, and you couldn't help but get into each character's persona. I've been several times to Islamarada, Florida, so can say this series also perfectly captured much of the local lifestyle in so many ways.

The beautiful theme song and haunting panning photography intro is superb, which sets the promise that something is coming that changes as quickly as the weather and time in the intro.

Every actor did a superb job, and the cinematography and editing was perfect. Everything was done in a hauntingly and beautiful way that set the tone.

Bloodline hit home, as it touched on family issues some can relate to....like a "black sheep" in the family, secrets withheld with good intent (or not), a bonding at times and changing the bonding, a sibling with a bad temper, the "perfect" sibling who may or may not be so perfect...a parent who may or may not have secrets that affect the kids. There's a character here somewhere that most anyone can relate to in Bloodline. I think that's what made the mark, because the actors each displayed such different personalities and situations, even those persons outside of family.

Season 1 was awesome...I cannot imagine how Season 2 could surpass it in it's originality. What a challenge that will be, and so very looking forward to it.

Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn stand out in this series. Especially Mendelsohn who plays the "black sheep" son Danny who has a bit of a dark past. You can't help but feel sorry for Danny as one major mistake seemed to ruin his relationship with his whole family. Kyle Chandler plays the "generic cop lead character" but it eventually gets to the point where he maybe isn't as perfect as he lets on.

Season 1 is a slow burn but its consistently peeling away layers and keeping everything interesting. for me bloodline is one of the best shows the last few years, it's up there with shows like fargo or other all time classics.. you will hate most of the characters but in a good way, they acting is outstanding and it's very satisfying to see how each of those individuals **** up.. just a good watch, try it out

Like the show and the captivating drama, but what is with the over use of the f word? Really can not watch this with children around. The f word is just about in every sentence, becomes annoying. Otherwise I would give this a higher rating.

This show is amazing! Binge worthy as they say. I watched the 2 seasons so quickly, knowing there were only 2. Now I'm looking for a substitute. So far, nothing compares. I only have two gripes: first, although the writers and prop-masters did an excellent job in conveying the fact that this is a true Florida family (love the reference to Florida State University for Meg), there were two mistakes: Meg is supposed to be an attorney in Florida, which means that she should have a Juris Doctorate. However, the diploma on her wall shows that she received a "Juris Master" degree from FSU. Although this is a real degree (and FSU does have such a program), it wouldn't entitle you to practice law. See http://www.law.fsu.edu/academic-programs/juris-master-program. The other mistake shows up in both Seasons 1 and 2. A prosecutor in Florida is called an Assistant State Attorney (ASA), not an Assistant District Attorney (ADA). Although a number of states use ADA's, Florida is not one of them. Expand

This show is a bit of a slow burner. But if you give it a few episodes the dramatic payoff is completely worth it. Overall the show is well acted, well shot, and develops into a very taught and intense drama that is a hell of a lot more interesting than the "family" drama the show starts off as. If you are like me and think that the "family" drama TV genre has been played out, don't let this excellent show pass you by just based on it's trailer and description. You would be missing out on one of Netflix's best original shows. Expand

i don't watch many shows these days with dark story lines but i was completely drawn into bloodline. this slowly unfolding tense story has got me hooked. the cast is terrific. i'm halfway through season 2 and look forward to season 3. i'm sad to hear of it's cancellation after the third season. for all the critics who criticize it's slowness i say f them. there are plenty of fasti don't watch many shows these days with dark story lines but i was completely drawn into bloodline. this slowly unfolding tense story has got me hooked. the cast is terrific. i'm halfway through season 2 and look forward to season 3. i'm sad to hear of it's cancellation after the third season. for all the critics who criticize it's slowness i say f them. there are plenty of fast moving tv shows with fast talking people for them. i like bloodline just the way it is. I know i am in the minority, but I never cared for Sam Shepherd, so I struggled with that first. Then with the way they display women. This tightly-written, brilliantly acted, dark, and poignant series is one I will not soon forget. I just finished all three seasons. Anyone who had childhood experiences that changed your life's path will appreciate and become wholly lost in this exploration of 'the butterfly effect.' One act impacts the next and ever after. To Ben Mendelsohn, you are every bit the actor Deniro is. Your portrayal of Danny was nothing short of perfect and most likely more real than the writers ever envisioned. Deeply human. To the rest of the cast, I applaud you and your performances that brought each character such life that the viewer could almost predict how a character would respond in any given situation. I'm not saying the show was predictable; rather, your performances revealed the essence of each character in both nuanced and hard-hitting scenes. Thank you. Expand

Buoyed by a bravura performance from Australian Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises) as prodigal son Danny Rayburn, Bloodline is an absorbing, fractious family drama that captivates despite giving away Season 1’s major development in the very first hour.

The Rayburns are, to a tee, well-trod stereotypes. Their dialogue is often as two-dimensional as they are, and when it veers more toward the melo than the drama, Bloodline can get down right corny.

Bloodline unfolds like a good novel. It’s so well acted, that like a good book, it’s hard to stay away from it
