The season started slow but has picked up speed. The arrival of a new Hap rival should increase the tension. Actors doing a great job.

I have found BLOOD AND OIL TO BE THE "BEST" TELEVISION PROGRAM THIS SEASON. It is one of the few times my husband (who is both macho and brains) will ask me to record his football game so he can watch THIS SHOW and return to his game later. Let's keep this show on the because it has GRIT & GUTS FOR THE MEN and keeps it at the top of the list for the ladies. First off Jewels is absolutely beautiful! The plot is somewhat interesting and the acting is above average. The biggest bother to me is that there is no mountains in Western North Dakota where this is supposed to be set. The movie is about being on the Bakken yet they filmed the whole thing in Colorado. Would have been better and much more realistic had they actually filmed in North Dakota.

The casting was great, the acting was solid, and the story line was compelling. The scenery was gorgeous, too, which never hurts, and the realistic backdrop & anything-can-happen frontier feeling presented by the set really drew me in. But above all else, the win is crystallized by the fact that I cannot wait to see the next episode.

6.4 million viewers are a great start; we'll see how

6.4 million viewers are a great start; we'll see how many stick around for the second episode. Honestly, the premiere was every bit as good as CBS' new hit Limitless. Some wannabe critics have nothing real to say, just inane criticism without substance, but I couldn't disagree more with their snotty polemics.

Personally, I find this to be must-see TV; it is far more entertaining & compelling that The Big Bang Theory, NCIS, CSI, or 'reality TV.'

The cast is somewhat believable - yet I do think the "sex card" is played far too frequently and detracts from the premise of "BLOOD and OIL". Adultery seems to be the rage nowadays and glorifying it only serves to take a potentially good plot and diminish it a considerable amount. In the end I believe viewers will tire of the "beauties and hunks" and want more of the plot. I see the show going perhaps two seasons (if they are lucky) before running out of ideas that are not centered on sex.

The characters, young man/young woman, are attractive (naturally). Well, maybe just too attractive. Each situation they get into is telegraphed way ahead of time (so you don't have to worry about missing anything) and it's almost as if things work themselves out sort of magically for this wonderful couple. But then, that's what you were rooting for, wasn't it?

ABC is in the Prime Time soap business, but this is stretching it a bit. There was nothing compelling about the pilot, which felt like it telegraphed every move. Worse yet, why would we care about these characters? That's a problem.

This show was set up to fail from the time it was put on the air. Sunday is not a good day to start a new show during football season. This show should have debuted on either Monday or Tuesday, so that would have given it some time to grab a viewer's attention. I thought in the beginning it was not going to be any good but then it started to get interesting and blam! it was canceled. IThis show was set up to fail from the time it was put on the air. The first hour spends so much time setting things up it may not have been indicative of what's to come. But the drama needs to ramp up quickly if this is going to have any chance at all.

Both Johnson and Valleta recognize the script for what it needs--a quirked eyebrow here, a glower held a bit longer than usual there--and tip the story in their favor as the down-and-dirty version of Frank and Claire Underwood. Crawford and Rittenhouse are so busy trawling for sympathy that they barely register.

Don Johnson, who’s worth his weight in gold or oil--anchors the show as North Dakota tycoon Hap Briggs.... You can bet the first hour climaxes with some of the main characters rolling around in oil, punchin’ and brawlin’. But the show could develop its own mythology of contemporary wildcatting.
