Was a fan on The Walking Dead but lost interest as found it became too slow paced. Well, let me tell you Black Summer is the absolute opposite, extremely fast paced and actually very tense. Well, let me tell you Black Summer is the absolute opposite, extremely fast paced and actually very tense. Shot in a way that allows you to feel the terror that the characters are feeling. These zombies are quick too - which adds more intensity. I really enjoyed this whole season and cannot understand the negative reviews. The only reason I did not give it 10 is that I would have liked more character development and dialogue, but I suppose this also adds to the mystery of Black Summer. Highly recommend!… Expand

Probably the best zombie story since 28 months later.
With only 8 episodes the show move at a break neck path, no place here for **** cliche "survivor politic", the story stay tightly focused on the struggle for survival.

Better than the Walking dead. Down time is minimal and the action moves along well without being too fast either. I watched the entire 1st season and I barely even noticed I burned through all episodes since the story telling is very wellBetter than the Walking dead. Season 1:
- Story is at times driven by antisocial behaviour that is unrealistic, unexplained and asinine under given circumstances.
+ Fascinating depiction of the actions and experiences of different people in the same area to show howSeason 1:
- Story is at times driven by antisocial behaviour that is unrealistic, unexplained and asinine under given circumstances.
+ Fascinating depiction of the actions and experiences of different people in the same area to show how events are connected.
- Infinite ammo and no reload cheat
+ Some very enjoyable tension packed scenes that were choreographed well.
- Characters keep forgetting to aim at the head, even though they are fully aware that is the only part of the body where shots count.
+ Fast zombies
- Timeline jumps that seemingly cut out important parts of the storytelling. In fact the whole timeline of events is confusing, especially in the early episodes where you'll find yourself asking "Did all this happen today or has this been going on for months?"
+ Zombiecam
- Storytelling sometimes gave in to temptation and went over-dramatic at the expense of realism.
+ Zombies are actually hard to kill in melee combat, just like they probably would be if zombies were a real thing.
- *Staring in disbelief while acting against instinct for added drama* cliche
+ I actually liked the idea of not putting too much focus on character buildup, it's not necessary in this style of storytelling. In this show it leaves more room for action, setting the mood and makes it harder to speculate who is going to be expendable.… Expand

The camera work besides a few ahots was pretty good especially in the 2nd to last episode and it show the straight and open tunnel. I will say this first, IMO it's not a zombie show it's more of a thriller series with zombies involved. I never felt the story was lagging behind or rushed at all. If it had more character development and more backstory on spears I wpuld have given this a 10. All and all fantastic show. Highly recomend.… Expand

Even though it's based on the world of Z Nation, they seem to have decided on a far more serious approach. Unlike literally every other zombie based show, you get the feeling that the characters are real. They're terrified. None of them is suddenly a master gunslinger. They spend a lot of time trying to figure out just how to survive, in their new world. You're also reminded on more than one occasion that, no matter how good someone is, no matter how prepared someoy is, no one is safe in a world ruled by fear. If I have one complaint about the show, it's the inconsistency in the runtime of their episodes. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to them. One episode may be and hr long, while the next is only 20 min long. I found myself feeling a little cheated by the short episodes, to be honest.… Expand

Solid zombie story. It borrows from others, but has made them its own. I love the anthology style with the individual stories coming together by season's end. Looking forward to Season 2.

How little do the writers think of the gen pop. There can not be this much stupidity in the world, try closing a door whilst a zombies chasing you, or not firing what little bullets you have aimlessly. Ive seen some s**t zombie stories. I loved it. I actually thought it was better than walking dead. More realistic and possible. Kept my adrenaline rushing the whole time. I hope they decide to keep the series going

Dumb show, everyone makes stupid decisions. How **** hard is it to close a door behind you so that the killer zombie trying to eat you doesn't rip you apart.

It's really difficult to keep you on the screen for the whole serie in zombie series. It happened with the walking dead when zombies got replaced by humans.

Black summer is good, is very good for the first episodes when you see what people could do when in real danger and the beginning of the contagion. But then you start noticing the bad acting, especially the annoyingly korean girl talking nonsense too often.. Poor choices of the others and a really rushed hit n run shooting ending all brings to a mediocre series.
I am not completely disappointed, but they need to do much better to keep me entertained another season. Is it really that difficult to find some good acting in zombies movies??… Expand

If this show was released in 2010 it would have probably won a Grammy. But unfortunately, it wasn’t. It’s just another zombie show in a long line of zombie shows. The increased pace of the Zombies was a welcome but the series just seemed way too fast paced and the ending just made me feel "is that it?". Season 2 is just bad!

Like what where they thinking, the main characters (mother and daughter) are just dick's and not fun dick but dicks you want them to be killed off in a horrible way in the first 5 minuets you see then in the secondSeason 2 is just bad!

I wanted to believe it along the 8 episodes. But this series has a mediocre scenario without consistency. It's ok, but if you seen the walking dead you've seen this. Everything seems overfamiliar now in the oversaturated zombie trope. The zombies turn so quickly and move so fast you can't see how humanity would have lasted more than a week against them.
