    The follow-up to Breaking Bad. Tough shoes to fill. Since everyone is gonna be comparing the two, i will as well. I do not think this was as good as the first episode of Breaking Bad. But in all honesty, that was not gonna happen. Does that make it a bad show? Of course not. This was a however fantastic first episode. This was a however fantastic first episode. It started off giving us answers that we had at the end of Breaking Bad and left us with questions for Better Call Saul. With as little spoilers as possible, we start off seeing Saul or as he is known before the events of Breaking Bad, Jimmy. Bob Odenkirk's fantastic portrayal of Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad carries over into this show yet there is something different. We get to see Jimmy before he was a big shot lawyer. Before he had mastered his job. He is not as quick talking. Which is an interesting dynamic. We get to see a whole new side of him. We get to see his sad living style. His depressing life. Struggling to make it through. Though do not read this wrong. It has quite a good amount of humor. Odenkirk kills it with his dialogue. Subtle jokes throughout make the humor great. Though a little slow after the start, this will hopefully turnout great throughout the series. Not to mention the great cliffhanger at the end that will have me watching next episode, though, I was gonna already.… Expand

    The first two episodes left a lot to be desired considering that the series had to match the superb quality of Breaking Bad. However, a couple of episodes down the road I have to admit that it is slowly catching up to expectation. Most people forget that they watched Breaking Bad in binge sessions and didn't have to deal with frustrating seven day long cliffhangers.     Whether or not you watched the parent show "Breaking Bad" doesn't matter. This is a spin-off that manages to stand on it's own two feet. Outside of a few little easter eggs and a few cameos you won't be missing much at all for not watching Breaking Bad. The writers just throw in a little fan service here and there. The show however creates it's own unique thing with fleshed out writingWhether or not you watched the parent show "Breaking Bad" doesn't matter. This is a spin-off that manages to stand on it's own two feet. Outside of a few little easter eggs and a few cameos you won't be missing much at all for not watching Breaking Bad. The writers just throw in a little fan service here and there. The show however creates it's own unique thing with fleshed out writing that doesn't hinge on it's predecessor.

    Odenkirk once again gives another excellent performance and really brings the character to life. The new supporting cast is great. I'm really curious about their fates. That's really one of this spin-off's greatest strengths.

    Given that this is a prequel odds are a lot of viewers already know "Jimmy's" fate. You already know he's going to get out of the scrapes he gets into relatively unscathed. The question is what happens to the people around him? It's obvious these new characters are playing a large role in his life right now. So when he drags them into trouble with him you'll be asking yourself if Jimmy is going to be able to get them out of these situations? Or will they suffer for his mistakes? It's a compelling hook that will keep you watching even if you've seen how things end up for the oddball main character in Breaking Bad.

    However while Better Call Saul isn't afraid to ratchet up the tension and have you worried for character's fates, it's still kind of a light-hearted affair most of the time. The show's focus is on dark/black comedy. Something I thought Breaking Bad quickly moved away from. It makes the show feel more like it's own unique thing and makes it funny in often very dark ways.

    In conclusion so far this show is a huge success. It's a spin-off that doesn't stand in the shadow of the parent show and doesn't even require any knowledge of it. It's one that can appeal to new audiences as well as returning fans of Breaking Bad. Either way you'll be hard pressed to not enjoy what's being offered here.

    I think the series is off to a good start, I think it will be enjoyable to watch, but I'm tempering my expectations. One thing that I hope that they do in this series is develop characters that stand completely on their own, it's a major disadvantage to present characters who we know from the future, because we know they're going to live to fight another day.     Vince strikes again. Awesome storyline, great acting, compelling mystery, funny lines from Saul... The show's got it all !
    I can't wait for season 2, seems like another Vince masterpiece !

    As I'm watching the final episode of the first season of Better Call Saul, I can see a show with a hook that is nearly as big as Breaking Bad's. It's not quite the drama or high of its source material, but Saul is a winner, drawing on the great writing and slick characters that we loved so much from Breaking Bad.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If the first two episodes are any guide, "Better Call Saul" is a worthy successor to "Breaking Bad." Best moments for me: the flash forward of our hapless hero working in a Cinnabon -- as he predicted in "Breaking Bad" -- while constantly looking over his shoulder; and, the early appearance to two of my favorite Breaking Bad characters, Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Tuco (Raymond Cruz -- who really knows how to look menacing). I'm hoping for more refugees from Breaking Bad in future episodes, if only in cameo roles, and am really enthused about the series. Bob Odenkirk was fantastic in Breaking Bad and Fargo. He's on track to be every bit as good, if not better, in his new series.… Expand

    Excited at first about this because Saul Goodman was one of the (many) best parts of Breaking Bad, skeptical later because I feared that said character, like many well-written characters in television, could only work as a secondary character due to its nature.

    Boy, was I mistaken. And once again, just like in Breaking Bad, he's just one of the astounding characters of the series!     It 's simply outstanding. It's very refined and cured in every detail, ironically dramatic, intensely gentle. Masterfully written and performed. AMAZING. Maybe better of BB... so it's INSANE!!!

    I must admit to not having been a great fan of "Breaking Bad". When I decided to really check it out with a few episodes, I did like it but the show was too far along to try to catch up. So, I felt that I had to start with "Better Call Saul" right at the beginning.

    I did enjoy the first episode. I have not yet seen the second episode with is snuggly waiting in my DVR. The found the    I must admit to not having been a great fan of "Breaking Bad". When I decided to really check it out with a few episodes, I did like it but the show was too far along to try to catch up. So, I felt that I had to start with "Better Call Saul" right at the beginning.

    I did enjoy the first episode. I have not yet seen the second episode with is snuggly waiting in my DVR. The found the first half of the first episode totally intriguing. But then Chuck came into the show. I am not sure what his problem is but I found the character bland and annoying. If I had followed "Breaking Bad" maybe I would know who Chuck is and why he is, but It seems to me that prior knowledge of "BB" should absolutely not be required to enjoy "BCS". Too much of this may eventually put me off of this show. I hope not!    … Expand

    No doubt one of the best shows this year for all breaking bad fans. I first thought this show wouldn't work, because we were over-satiated with breaking bad, but i was proved wrong, it totally delivers. You'll fall in love with the characters, mainly Jimmy, and the story is totally believable and not over the top. Excellently funny show

    Better Call Saul: Season 1 respeta la esencia, estilo, humor, drama y entretenimiento de Breaking Bad, solo que esta vez, tenemos mas dosis de humor negro, (se maneja el drama, pero se maneja muy poco) Saul como protagonista, momentos totalmente divertidos e inesperados y una excelente dirección y un excelente Guion de Vince Gilligan

    I love this show!!! The dark humor of James McGill morphing into Saul is a must see! Not to mention Mike. I highly recommend this show. The episode where James orchestrates the publicity stunt with the billboard incident is priceless. Every billboard I pass advertising a law firm makes me chuckle and think what a sleazebag.

    Shattering expectations and better than any spin-off series has a right to be, Better Call Saul shows great promise, and certainly gives Breaking Bad a run at its money.

    The first season of Better Call Saul is fantastic. Not only is the writing great, the actors to a fantastic job expressing emotions. It is edited very well, and every frame feels like a painting. I haven't seen a better looking show since Mad Men. Great pilot season.

    it's too soon to be rating this show, but people seem to be doing it anyway. I think it is shaping up to be something great. It's taking its time and by the time the season is over people and critics a like will be singing its praises. I like what I have seen so far, and I trust the writers to deliver the goods.

    An outstanding first episode with fine acting and writing from all concerned. Gilligan and Gould really captured Saul's fraudulent nature.

    I expected this show to be great based on it's pedigree. I did not expect it to accomplish in two episodes what Breaking Bad did in one season. By that I mean completely hook me in and never let me go. Maybe I'm biased because I was one of the diehards that ACTUALLY started BB from the beginning. I just love Gilligan's writing and his directorial skills are so refined it feels like he'sI expected this show to be great based on it's pedigree.     Hell yes! Vince is just too damn good. I thought the first episode was perfect. What a cliffhanger! Which I totally wasn't expecting. Having watched Breaking Bad 4 times, it had just enough Breaking Bad links to make me smile without over doing it. It had me asking so many questions. I'm already hooked.

    The series starts off in the right direction, promising enthralling plot and even some directorial odd choices,    I'm not going to compare this with Breaking Bad. It is a spin-off, yes, but it only features a couple of the same characters, it's set in a different time, it doesn't deal (I'm assuming) with the same things. Instead, I'm going to review this as if it were a stand-alone show.

    The series starts off in the right direction, promising enthralling plot and even some directorial odd choices, it being a TV show: we see black and white, we see weird interruptions, long scenes and so on, stuff that normally belongs in movies. Bob Odenkirk has a combination of manic, sad, foolish, hilarious charisma that isn't that common to find, and he sets off to nail his dubious character of a broke lawyer turned fraudolent defendant of the crooks.

    A closer look at the technical aspects, as I mentioned, also reveals a particular attention for detail that can never hurt. We'll see where this goes.    … Expand

    Waited a year for season 3 and its still painfully SLOW. The first two seasons could've been achieved in two shows. Unrelated sequencing, slow to no story. Very disappointing. I've official stopped watching.

    An excellent opening to the series. Following a similar tone to the first season of Breaking Bad but with enough difference from BrBa due to it's quirky protagonist: Jimmy McGill. The direction was really nice with Vince Gilligan nailing it again, writing was also very well written and great to listen to. There plenty of foreshadowing and throwbacks to other characters in breaking bad thatAn excellent opening to the series. Following a similar tone to the first season of Breaking Bad but with enough difference from BrBa due to it's quirky protagonist: Jimmy McGill. The direction was really nice with Vince Gilligan nailing it again, writing was also very well written and great to listen to. There plenty of foreshadowing and throwbacks to other characters in breaking bad that BrBa fans will have rhe biggest blast watching this. Funny with enough Pathos to not makes it stupid, better call saul has started off great. For now i'd give it an 8.4/10 but i will change my score if needs be as the series progresses.     An outstanding first episode with fine acting and writing from all concerned. It has the depth and attention to detail we came to love in "Breaking Bad" and unlike that show we don't have to put up with the hideous over-acting of Anna Gunn. It's a winner!

    Once again, Vince Gilligan has worked his magic and created another master piece. I look forward to the next episodes of Better Call Saul. I great recommend watching this amazing masterpiece.

    Oh man, that ending! Great start to a new show. Still upholds some elements from Breaking Bad but approached with more humor. Gilligan and Gould really captured Saul's fraudulent nature. When you're just about to think he might be a principled human being, you realize you've been duped and its just good old Saul.

    For all of the thoughts and worries that this show would be a sub par spinoff, cast those thoughts aside. 2 episodes in and we have a compelling story that works well as a drama but shows Saul maturing into the character he is in Breaking Bad. It's wonderfully directed, the second episode "Mijo" having some fantastic shots and a great montage near the second half and a bleak future introFor all of the thoughts and worries that this show would be a sub par spinoff, cast those thoughts aside. 2 episodes in and we have a compelling story that works well as a drama but shows Saul maturing into the character he is in Breaking Bad.     The start was a little boring, probably the writers don't care about the critics because it came from Breaking Bad. But the show starts to engage and by the 7 chapter it was great. In the end of 9, big shake up in the story. Just saw the 10, and it was great. I see these first season as just a warm up for something great. Probably not great as breaking bad, but very close.     I also really like the tone of the show - it's very funny but still serious enough.     The same great writing, style, acting and inventiveness as "Breaking Bad" in this prequel spin-off if not quite as great. The stakes are much less here and the tone is lighter. The storytelling is still supreme.

    Although I was super stoked for this show, one of the things that was an absolute must was for this show to stand on its own two feet. So far, I think that is the direction it is going. The cinematography and acting are absolutely amazing. As if the first episode couldn't pull me in enough, the end of the episode brought in a "Bad-esque" surprise that is going to keep me hooked for the long run.

In the interests of honesty and fairness, however, I can only give the show a 9 out of 10, because it hasn't yet proven itself to be among the caliber of all-time greats, like The Sopranos and the first four seasons of Breaking Bad.     How on earth do you follow Breaking Bad - well I wouldn't have dared attempt it but if anyone can do it its Vince Gilligan! Better Call Saul has a very strong sense of Breaking Bad - if you walked into a room when it was on you would think it was a scene from it - but at the same time it has its own strong identity. Can't wait to see where they take the story!

    Great start for a spin-off series.

    The story so far is solid, the cinematography is fantastic and the mix of old and new characters is very interesting.

    I can't wait to see what happens next in the life of James M. Gill.

Despite having a great cast, colorful characters, well-shot scenes and some naturally flowing dialogue, this show falls flat. Why? To be quite honest, simply nothing of interest happens. We see Saul as Jimmy McGill, doing lawyer stuff, paperwork, and most oftenAs a fan of Breaking Bad, I can't recommend this show. There's no goal, no progress, no motivation. The show doesn't even have a clear antagonist or obstacle. Eight episodes in and no overarching plot has developed, just a series of individual problems that are solved by the end of the episode's self-contained story. There's only two episodes left and still nothing is at stake. There's no reason for me to root for Jimmy, to be concerned for him, to fear for him. There's no urge to see what happens, because NOTHING is happening. It's a shame to see such potential be wasted.… Expand

    if you are thinking about starting this show... don't. Every story line is boring, long, and drawn out and the characters are not interesting. Trying to cash in on breaking bad and doing it poorly.

    As everyone else has done in most of the reviews for this show, they have compared Better Call Saul to it's predecessor Breaking Bad, which has to be done to really be able to critique the show, but I also like to see the show with it's own legs to really see where it falls among all of these high drama shows in television today. Looking at the first couple episodes I really was a little wary at first considering where Saul Goodman AKA Jimmy/James McGill (his birth name) started off at, as a back office inside a beauty salon lawyer, with a thirst for money at no costs. As the story started to go a little deeper however I really became more favorable of where it was going. Finding out about Jimmy's brother Chuck, and Jimmy trying to get him the right amount from his company due to health problems was probably the highlight of the show for me, b/c I could start to see a very methodical puzzle being mapped out, with many pieces just scattered out in the wind for later resolution. As the episode continues we see Jimmy coerce two young hoodlums into a scheme with not a very good backup plan if any at all where one of the boys will hit the windshield of a particular woman and pretend to be badly injured so as to get compensation. As the plan fails however due to the wrong car being targeted, and the driver taking off, the boys decide to follow the car back to where the woman lives only to be taken into a hostage situation by the woman's grandson (Tuco from Breaking Bad) with Jimmy being taken in shortly after. As Tuco decides what to do with them he discovers the true intentions behind the three of them, and takes them out to the desert to maim them. He later comes to terms with Jimmy that he will let him go and injure the three boys with broken legs. After this is done, Jimmy is visited by one of Tuco's henchman Nacho, who wants to get the larger amount of Chuck's compensation in exchange for Jimmy getting a finders fee. Jimmy declines, and after threatening him Nacho leaves, and the second episode ends. I found the first two episodes to be very exhilarating with the same slow burn that Breaking Bad had but with an even more in depth look at the characters thought process and where they were coming from. The show has left us with many questions and very few answers, and a lot of conspiracy theories on my part, such as how Jimmy knew Tuco first and if that had anything to do with his and Walter's partnership, or how far Jimmy actually went to become who we all know and eventually loved. All in all I give it a great review b/c it sets up an arc that looks as if it will fall right in line with Breaking Bad, and as a show all it's own.… Expand

    the attempt to humanize saul is terrible and, IMHO, is not consistent with the character that we all loved in breaking bad. probably the writers recovered some stuffs that wrote about the biography at the time of bb. and then they tried to develop it. I believed that 'Better Call Saul' had little hope of being anything more than a wannabe sequel/spin-off. Well, I have been pleasantly surprised so far. Here we see an early version of Saul Goodman prior to his colorful career as attorney for shady characters in 'Breaking Bad';I must admit that I was cautious about getting hooked on something new after the grand finale of 'Breaking Bad' . I believed that 'Better Call Saul' had little hope of being anything more than a wannabe sequel/spin-off. Well, I have been pleasantly surprised so far. Here we see an early version of Saul Goodman prior to his colorful career as attorney for shady characters in 'Breaking Bad'; he is troubled, wrecked with failure armed, it seems, with nothing except the 'gift of the gab'. Yet it's his mouthiness that will ultimately redeem him, or not; we have yet to find out.
    With densely atmospheric cinematography, dripping with large- than-life characters and the general tragi-comic ambience (how I both love and detest Alberquerque!) that we love in 'Breaking Bad', 'Better Saul' promises to find its rightful place amongst the TV drama/comedy greats....can't wait for the next episode!    … Expand

    Last season of Breaking Bad is best of its all the season, for it to win an Emmy. But what we saw in BETTER CALL SAUL: SEASON 1 was improved version of the former. Just the newfangled approach was enough for me to rate it the best season of all this year till now.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off... if you aren't already a fan of the parent show, Breaking Bad, then you may not feel much of a connection to this one. You would especially miss the importance of various characters from the BB world making their appearance, and the emotional impact you are expected to feel.

    Overall, this show is Vince Gilligan at his most methodical; the plot is a very slow burn. My SO and I have said several times to each other, throughout season 1, "Wow, I hope they're going somewhere with this...." The story does feel like it meanders like a lazy river.

    Not that this is a bad series. It's actually quite good. Odenkirk's Saul Goodman was possibly my favorite character on Breaking Bad. And once Mike Ehrmantrout makes his appearance, things start to move. In fact, the episode dealing with Mike's backstory is one of the best TV episodes I've ever seen (really).

    I guess where the show isn't connecting with me yet is that the Saul Goodman character is such a slick, fast talking, shady guy with all the wrong connections. I like Jimmy McGill... but I LOVE Saul Goodman. And we don't really get to see Saul in season 1.    … Expand

    This show still has Gilligan directing, writing and filming this show in it's own similar but unique style. The acting is flawless. It's a much more refined version of Breaking Bad, touching on all of the same points but with more realistic characters and situations.     Better Call Saul is not what most of us expected it to be, as we assumed, Saul wouldn't stay where he was after the events of the Breaking Bad finale, and that we'd come to see what's next, but in fact, it's just the opposite. The series begins with a depressed and sentimental Saul, taking a look back at where it all started, back when he was kind of an honest man, who kind of cared about a few people, and went by his real name, James McGill. McGill was a con-artist who was frequently bailed out by his brother (Michael McKean) who was a big time lawyer at a huge firm. It was he who convinced Jimmy to turn his life around and try to follow in his footsteps and that's what he did....kind of.

    Lets start with the show, because it is every bit as clever and well written as Breaking Bad was. You might not have the shocking violence, at least not yet, but as with it's predecessor, the show is always three steps ahead of you, it's clever, humorous in that dry kind of way, and it is extremely entertaining.

    Also similar to Breaking Bad, you have some great side characters, but one man is the show, and that man is Bob Odenkirk. If you thought he was good on Breaking Bad, you haven't seen anything yet. By the time he was Saul, he was a complete con-man, everything was a joke or a scam, but Jimmy, he hasn't really crossed that line completely, he has his moments, but he still has his humanity and compassion. That internal struggle between doing what's right and doing what he deems is necessary is at the heart of the show, and Bob Odenkirk is the heart and soul of the show.

    The bottom line, Better Call Saul is not on the same level as Breaking Bad...YET, but it's headed that way. What did you think of Breaking Bad after twenty episodes? Did you feel the same way as you did after sixty? That's the point, Saul is feeling his oats, building his story and his reputation. As for Vince Gilligan, he learned from his mistakes and I think people are going to catch on and get hooked a lot faster this time around. This show has the same feel to it and things are only going to get bigger and better, so if you're putting off on watching it until you start hearing more hype, that's your choice, but you're missing out on some pretty good stuff.    … Expand

    This show is very well done. I didn't know how they were going to pull it off. But here is the deal. First two episodes just like breaking bad. I wasn't sure about the show. By the third episode I was hooked. The show gets better and better with every episode. Good to see some familiar faces the ones that you really came to love during breaking bad. Gotta watch this show!

    A solid start to the show. One of the things i appreciate the most about BCS is how it stands on it's own. You can tell by the way it's made that it's from the same guys behind Breaking Bad but it's tone and characters distinguish it from the series that spawned it.

    Better Call Saul is a great serial and does Breaking Bad honor. It has more black comedy then Breaking Bad, but that doesn't make it worse: no, sometimes it makes it even better. Better Call Saul is well written and directed.

    Everything a Breaking Bad fan could possibly hope for and even if you haven't watched the show from which it was spawned you can follow exactly what is going on. It's slightly more rewarding with the knowledge of BB but not required. Actually without that knowledge it might possibly be even better without knowing certain events in some of the characters futures. It's great to be back in the ABQ.

But, the idea of making a show about the sleazy (hilarious) lawyer who enabled the people in a hit show felt compelling to me.     For someone who never watched breaking bad, I think this show is great. I love how it has cliff hangers after each episode. It makes me want to keep watching. I was worried once I saw the first episode but after the second I know that I was going to like it. The characters seem to come alive and 3d.

Many friends of mine had commented that even after the eight episode of the show there was no clear goal materialized before the protagonist; and that he was a lawyer who was going about his daily duties with any interesting issues dealt with in the very same episode or a few down the road.     Undeniably, the biggest positive for the show is Jimmy McGill who is a relatable character, looking to make a name for himself. It makes sense that he might dabble in interesting issues when he starts off but one knows, that nothing major might happen at the beginning .
    This show had great acting performances all round and a great story-line which could have been better paced.
    That said, this is not a perfect 10/10 show either as many would have you believe because of the simple reasoning that in order to judge it fairly we should not compare it with breaking bad nor judge it in the scale with all spin-offs ever made, which in all respects is not such a difficult list to top.

    While this show may become one of the best spin-offs to have come about in recent memory, it still can become one of the better shows in recent memory.
    All in all, a strong first season, with interesting characters (and a bunch of easter eggs) and definitely worth your time!    … Expand

    Breaking Bad was an amazing show. The setting, the cast, the music, the cinematography and the story. I liked it all. I was really disappointed when the show ended in 2013. Then I heard about a spin-off called Better Call Saul created by Vince Gilligan. For a long time I was skeptical about the show, but after I've seen the first two episodes I'm all in.    Wow, this show is amazing!

    Breaking Bad was an amazing show. The setting, the cast, the music, the cinematography and the story. I liked it all. I was really disappointed when the show ended in 2013.

    Then I heard about a spin-off called Better Call Saul created by Vince Gilligan. For a long time I was skeptical about the show, but after I've seen the first two episodes I'm all in. I'm addicted and can not wait for the next episodes.

    The story is completely different from what I expected. The show is about the (pre-Breaking Bad) life of Jimmy McGill (aka as Saul Goodman). And I'm excited to see what will happen next.    … Expand

    Simply Put, "Better Call Saul" is the only show that i currently will anxiously wait each week to see. It is that good. The humor is excellent and the plot connections between Breaking Bad make it even more fun to watch.

    With one episode left I'm already wanting more. Going in I really didn't know what to expect with this show, and now that we're nearing the first season's finale I can't get enough of it. I don't even think of it as part of Breaking Bad anymore. This show would be great even if it's predecessor never came to fruition.     I'm a crazy fan of Breaking Bad and this is an unbiased opinion: BCS is good because it has all the good Breaking Bad characters in it: Saul, Mike, Tuco,.. But it's own characters: Chuck, Kim,Hamlin,..Let's be real, they are tedious.     Best new show of 2015. Stellar acting by Jonathan Banks and Bob Odenkirk and also Michal McKean. Visually it's on the same level of breaking bad but it manages to have its own life. If you love quality tv and cinema, you can't miss this.

    When watching the first two episodes of Better Call Saul, I thought that it might actually be better than Breaking Bad. After finishing this season, it felt a bit too early to have that statement especially Better Call Saul is still its early season. However, the quality of the first season of this show is on slightly on a better level than the first season of Breaking Bad and that’s saying something.

    What makes the first season of Better Call Saul so entertaining and interesting to watch was the way how it handles its season plot arcs and most of them are character-focused, not “case of the season” focused. It was executed excellently with excellent writing and character development as we see Saul Goodman’s origins as James McGill.

    The excellent character development is carried by excellent cast performances. The main star of the show Bob Odenkirk brilliantly captures and elevates the emotions and thoughts of the character that made him famous. His character was the comedic relief on Breaking Bad and it’s so nice to see that in his own show that he is just a regular lawyer who is need of money. Kim Wexler sounds so boring and plain on paper but Rhea Seehorn’s performance as the character made Kim Wexler one of my favorite characters on the show. Last but not the least, Michael McKean played Chuck McGill very well and his character had a fascinating transition that is elevated by his performance.

    Lastly, this show is eye porn for people who appreciate excellent direction, camera work and cinematography. It’s those elements are one of the reasons why Breaking Bad is considered one of the best TV shows of all-time and it’s carried over so well to Better Call Saul.

    When I first rumours of Better Call Saul's development I thought it was a joke. I couldn't see how Saul Goodman could ever have his own show but when I thought about it a spinoff really makes sense. There is so much that we still didn't know about Saul. Better Call Saul introduces mostly new characters. Better Call Saul introduces Saul as a character that is completely different from the Saul that we know from Breaking Bad and although it is hard to believe I think Better Call Saul is more sustainable than Breaking Bad. I think this show can last for just as many seasons as Breaking Bad, if not more. The first season is just the first few baby steps. Really the first season of Better Call Saul may be better than Breaking Bad's first season. One thing that sort of disappointed me was the lack of comedy. As with it's predecessor, 'Better Call Saul' has moments that are fantastically written, thoroughly entertaining and brilliantly acted out. However, for every one of these moments, there's at least 15 minutes of can be loosely classed as character development, but is more akinI find 'Better Call Saul' an incredibly frustrating experience, much like the time I invested in 'Breaking Bad'. As with it's predecessor, 'Better Call Saul' has moments that are fantastically written, thoroughly entertaining and brilliantly acted out. However, for every one of these moments, there's at least 15 minutes of can be loosely classed as character development, but is more akin to filler material. In short, the show is slow. I found that these personal gripes with the writing and execution to be present in 'Breaking Bad', but I managed to persevere as, broadly, the series was more engaging.

    It may be that Vince Gilligan's work just doesn't quite cut it for me, in 'Better Call Saul' (more than with, but still present in, 'Breaking Bad') I can't shake the feeling of certain parts being contrived and the show carrying an air of pretension.

    However, the acting is solid and cannot be faulted; with Bob Odenkirk really pulling off the multiple dimensions to Jimmy's character. As with the acting, the cinematography and music are brilliant, but this is, in my opinion, to be expected when you're following up one of the biggest TV shows of all time.

    To the show's credit, it makes the series accessible to those who haven't seen 'Breaking Bad'. This being said, those that haven't seen the series may have certain elements of the show and cameos lost on them. I did feel that at one time in particular, a cameo was a cheap way to get people interested and was somewhat shoe-horned into an already meandering and muddled storyline (i.e. 'Oh look who's here! It's this character from 'Breaking Bad' - weren't they great!').

    Would I recommend 'Better Call Saul'? I wouldn't steer people away from the series, but there's much better television out there (i.e. House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black). You need patience for 'Better Call Saul', and you need to be willing to invest the time for not much reward - as I felt the series only just got going in the final episode, but this may set up season 2 well.    … Expand

    This is far from Breaking Bad. Yes, some actors are here, Saul Goodman is excellent, but the series is not as good. Some episodes are fantastic, some are a bit dull. Still, it's a nice time killer and I could recommend it.

    3 episodes in, and we have seen a serious palette of material that creates synergy with BB elements, rather than riding on coattails. The drama is crisp, the humor black, the vision precise. I am having much fun so far!

But coming to Better Call Saul with only a casual knowledge of its parent show will not only do a terrible disservice to a show whose bolshiness is rarely seen in modern American mainstream television, but also to yourself as a discerning and selective television consumer. I don’t doubt your seriousness. Please come back when you already know what happens. You’ll care much more about what’s happening.

After we got sick of series that have unrealistic characters, characters too fictional for fiction itself we finally get a lovable and realistic character placed skillfully in a perfect story line.     It is very difficult to beat the expectations of being a successor to a show like Breaking Bad but Better Call Saul does this in spades. It immediately attracts you by using a great story and Saul's clever lawyer tactics with the perfect amount of humor.

It goes to show people are rating this show based on how much they liked breaking bad. the first episode was wildly mediocre but the show started to pick up in episode 2. so far the acting is good and the cast isn't terrible. episode 3 was rather predictable. if it continuesIf you where on IMDB when this show aired you would've noticed this show had a 9.5 before it was even 10 minutes in.     Good series, after the third episode the story is really starting to take shape and become more exciting with the bald 50 yr old guy starting to play a part.

As we know Saul turns out more or less okay (and alive) by the beginning of Breaking Bad, the tension is completely taken out of any life threatening scenes. We also know he has contact with drug cartels in Breaking Bad, which makes the show somewhat predictable - very much unlike Breaking Bad.

    Love the character development and pacing. Bob Odenkirk has done a terrific job fleshing out Saul.

    As a Breaking Bad addict, I thought Vince Gilligan was near genius, but he choose the wrong character to make into a leading man in his new series. Yes, the acting is excellent, the sets are great, but the plot just doesn't hold my attention. I really wish I could like this but it ain't happening, at least not yet.

    Amazing cinematography? Check. Interesting characterization? Check. Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman? CHECK! The scripting is amazing and the plotting is all over the place so that whenever seasons 2 and 3 come, they will brilliantly begin to push the series faster and further just like Breaking Bad did.

    Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman was pure brilliant and always such a joy to watch his character reaching to be the best but everything always seems to back fire on him and it get's more hard as everything seems like a challenge that he can't beat, and Bob Odenkirk cough all the stress, the hard work and the good sense of humor that we all know is Saul. Good work Bob.

    Jonathan Banks as Mike stole the whole show for me as I think Jonathan Banks did one of the best performance of the year with the heartbreaking episode Five-O, well to be honest I think I named off the things I wanted to say about his performance so check out my review Five-O to know more.

    The writing is the highlight of this show as Better Call Saul hasn't got exploding cars or over the top kills that wouldn't happen in real life when you think deep about it. Some people may think this show is boring with people talking and I really don't get what people are saying that, I don't go into a show expecting gun shootouts or people making cheesy one liners, no I want great writing, a good story and a show that can suck me in with all of that and this TV show dose.

    If I have to find one problem with the first season is one of the episodes known as Alpine Shepherd Boy and let me get this out there this isn't a terrible episode, it was okay but I think it kind of pointless episode, just watch and you may agree or not but to me it felt fill, but besides that the rest of the episodes are amazing and truly outstanding.

    Overall Better Call Saul season 1 is a solid season with great writing and acting and I can't wait for season 2.    … Expand

Answering Kim's radiant good news, based on nothing but his accomplishments with 'Is this some sort of a tax write-off? Is heartbreaking and really drives it home: We become what we are labeled as, and prove the bastards' dank prophecies right. If you don't get it, I congratulate you on your supportive surroundings in your life until now. If you wanted nothing but a second Breaking Bad, you might not see that you got something far, far better. I can't think of a better series ever.     A near-perfect segue from "that other show". BCS doesn't try to pick things up, match it's intensity, or fall prey to the other pitfalls of being in such a large shadow.

    But it's classic Vince Gilligan, and I couldn't think of a better Saul Goodman prequel track. I love the pacing and style, and 9 of 10 episodes have been terrific. So far, so good.

    The ball of manic, depressed, negative energy that is Jimmy is a perfect match for Odenkirk’s comedic (and newfound dramatic) chops, as he lends plenty of pathos to this mesmeric loser with a heart of fool’s gold. He’s not Saul Goodman just yet, but the journey there should be a bumpy, thrilling ride.

    Odenkirk is a gifted comic actor, and the sadness in his eyes hints that he can fill in more dimensions to Jimmy McGill as time goes on. But the first two episodes of Better Call Saul take their own sweet time setting things up.
