It did have me thinking about the routine gore of Robert Altman’s “M*A*S*H”;. the otherworldly medicine of the Lars von Trier epic “The Kingdom”; Paddy Chayefsky’s unsentimental script for “The Hospital”; and the frenetic energy and hysterical camera of, say, Mathieu Kassovitz’s “La Haine” or this year’s Oscar-nominated Sean Baker romp, “Anora.” In case I’m being vague, this is a love letter.

While the ER in Berlin ER looks grungier and bleaker than ones we’ve seen on American TV, the beats of the show will be familiar to people who are fans of medical dramas. In this case, the show is watchable because of its cast, especially Jones and Popadic.
