The animated duo have returned, as dumb--and hilarious--as ever. [31 Oct 2011, p.36]
-
There's still something winning and relevant about their particular blend of cluelessness and surprisingly sharp commentary.
-
Is the show still funny? Sure. But it now seems about as cutting edge and relevant as "Alf" or "Suddenly Susan."
-
Nevertheless, this is a kind of American classic that goes right against the grain of what cartoons are supposed to be.
-
It definitely has its moments.
-
The boys are at their best when mocking the absurdities of what they find on television.
-
It's not essential anymore, but it's still welcome.
-
The new jokes mostly feel slow and hands-off, less disdainful than uninterested.
-
The new series works just OK. The problem is, there actually isn't much of a need for the two dopes and their anti-wisdom anymore.
-
There is--beneath the stale crust of the new Beavis and Butt-head, baked in with the program's existential outlook--a special grimness.
-
Mostly, Judge has an unerring ear for pop culture and outright stupidity.
-
Reality TV has blessed us with so many idiots to laugh at, it's overkill to have a couple of animated jackasses describe what a jackass Snooki is.
-
Beavis and Butt-Head are who they've always been, for ill or (comedically) for good. I'm glad to have them back.
-
You either like Beavis and Butt-Head or, if you're like most of the world, you don't. And they don't care. If you do, it will be good news that they are back and better news that they've lost nothing off their fastball.
-
Beavis and Butt-Head's snarky remarks are still so stupid--even in a world crowded with them--that they're funny.
-
Like opening a time capsule. The boys remain the same. At least their snark has been updated for contemporary targets.
