This show could be really good, if it was better written. Thinking back how good the early days of the Arrowverse were (meaning Arrow S01 and also S02), it hurts to see that this is what we have now.

So to cut this short, dear DC/CW, please for the love of batman, hire better writers!

Poorly acted and written. I have no recommendations for who the CW could have picked to act in this, but they should have gotten the writers from Netflix's Daredevil as this would have been right up their alley.

This is very woke and not just politically correct but actually quite stupid way to portray batwoman. No batwoman is not stone-cold feminist who hates men and thinks Batman takes all the credit. Pathetic and cringy lines just push away normal people and juice-up triggered ones.

Her excruciatingly bad acting made me uncomfortable. After seeing the trailer for Batwoman i really question why someone would hire her as an actor and after seeing the first episode the question still stands. The only reasons i can find is her looks, her (shallow) "strong" attitude and her sexuality. She's not the "typical" strong heterosexual feminine female. She definitely didn't get the job for being talented. Ruby Rose is the stereotype of a bad actress/actor. "Look angry!" [clenches teeth, lowers eyebrows and widen the nostrils. ] By the way, it's nothing strong and cool about looking like, walking like, having a posture like and making face expressions like Justin Bieber. Anyone who defends her acting chops are lying or/and delusional. On the other hand, this seems to be the agenda with a show like Batwoman. Nothing's meant to be good. It's just pushing the feminist LGBT agenda. No, i'm not one of the typical people screaming "Woke!" about everything, but sometimes the "woke" and delusional consumes a production, like Batwoman, and it becomes terrible. In this case it's just too obvious. And that's why this show never will see a second season. They put the agenda above quality. It might see a second season if they scream "Haters!" and "Anti-feminist!" loud enough. Because in this day and age, some people rather push blame when they fail, rather than realizing they might be doing something wrong themselves. Like this show. Expand

The Audience is the true critic, and what the response here tells me is that the viewer is tired of characters being used to carry out a sexual role agenda. The Audience does not care about the sexual preference of a Superhero and is focused on the comic book style action and storylines that are synonymous with being a Superhero character. As long as garbage like this BATWOMAN continued to get released, the Audience will continue to voice extreme displeasure and realize that the Critics are also part of the problem. Instead of the show relying on a capable hero standing her own ground, it constantly has to throw in weak and completely unnecessary "stings" that are absolute, without doubt or remorse openly sexist to a degree near racism, and pit man vs woman instead of hero vs villain, and force a woman to clearly adopt super traditional douche bag male stereotypes (which doesn't this undermine the whole principle that women are as capable as men?). It destroys the characters individuality and stuffs frivolous attempts for the writers to "show their wokeness" in search for Twitter high-fives, and it ruins the whole show. They should take note from Catwoman in Dark Knight Rises. She is all female, and all powerful. A great character.

The writing in this show is so completely transparent in its pathetic attempt to rally current social radicalized niches against one-another instead of just being a great, well written show with a great lead and some great support cast too.

Huge disappointment, and I blame almost all issues on the pathetic writing team. Someone please fire them all and ban them from ever writing again. I heard McDonalds is hiring?

I have to say that as a real fan of the comic books and particularly all of the Batman "family" this show is a real let down. Couldn't they find a decent actor for the title role? Generally, this is part of the Arrowverse. What makes this show differ from the others is that It's definitely the darkest and most violent. Seriously, it has THE darkest episodes in the Arrowverse. This is also a show that heavily emphasizes story. The writers had a vision and I appreciated that they went all in.

However, like most of the Arrowverse shows, a hammer is taken to real world logic and consequences in order to get to where the writers want. Batwoman is the most egregious of all the shows when it comes to it. The show tries to be serious, but it's hard to take it so when it's so cartoonish with it's logic.

Standalone stories are hit and miss. There are some pretty good ones. They do a better job with with the Executioner's origins than the entire long setup done in Gotham. Others are half-baked. A couple antagonists' first live-action depictions don't do them justice.

The cast is mostly good. Ruby Rose is fine as Kate Kane/Batwoman. The supporting characters Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson), Batwoman's "guy-in-the-chair," and Mary Hamilton (Nicole Kang), Kate's step-sister, become likable, but it takes the writers half a season to really find them. Luke, though likable and well acted by Johnson, suffers from being a completely stereotypical superhero tech guy. Probably the strongest character in this is the main villain White Alice. Rachel Skarstein delivers a hell of a performance, and the character has a hell of a backstory. Admittedly, her habit of quoting lines from "Alice in Wonderland" gets old.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 caused the show to end before all episodes were filmed. Expect a less satisfying conclusion to what should've been a self-contained season.

Overall, I recommend this. Batwoman is an entertaining show, which does manage to feel different from the other CW superhero shows. If you like them in general, you should give this a shot. I just hope the story to be a little less soapy next season.

OK...It's...not too bad as everyone's saying, but it does have MANY flaws. Some acting is poor, the story is also fairly one-dimensional compared to the other CW DC shows, and yes, there is a good deal of feminism. It's still pretty action-packed and we got a fairly interesting approach to a main villain. I do hope this gets better throughout the rest of the season. (Review posted October 6th)

Ruby is incredible, Rachel's performance gives me the creeps and yet I somehow already L O V E Alice and can't get her rhymes out of my head.
Of course, the reveal of Kate Kane and Alice's sisterhood could've been saved for later in the season but I am not mad at it.

intriguing series, intersely find out how everything will develop. Ruby is not the best actress of course, but I want to give her a chance.

Batwoman is one of my top 10 favorite new shows of 2019, one of my top 5 favorite superhero shows, my 2nd favorite DC Comics show, and one of my favorite shows of all time. The acting is outstanding especially from Rachel Skarsten and Ruby Rose. Nicole Kang also gave a terrific performance. The stunts are awesome and very well executed. The costumes were stupendous especially the ones that Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Elizabeth Anweis, Meagan Tandy, and Kayla Ewell wore. The makeup and hairstyling was excellent especially on Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Kayla Ewell, and Nicole Kang. The writing and storylines are superb, I love the alternate Earth sister storyline. An A+ first season to me. Expand

Batwoman, the actor, is cast well. The rest are not. The plot is incredibly predictable. There are inconsistencies and actions by characters which are nonsensical. A cookie cutter superhero show which will only be enjoyably to those too young or too recluse to have seen any other superhero show. Too bad.

Really bad acting and writing. I'm not sure how shows this bad are given the greenlight by any network even if it is on the cw.

It's bad. Nothing original and somewhat boring. Could easily be at least average, but it's not.

As a lesbian who respects herself, i have to say i have been a fan of Batwoman since the early 2000s. This TV series version could have been so much more but it's hurting me to say, it failed me. I was expecting at least some of the darkness and the controversy of the comic character. Nope. I didnt feel it.

I was super-excited with Ruby Rose when i read she was picked. Turns out she has a pretty face, a badass look but she doesnt convince me with her acting. There is something missing.
So now I'm stuck; on the one hand i dont want the show to get cut off coz of the terrible reviews (including mine) thus its rare to actually get a lesbian leading character and a superhero. On the other hand, i find myself not eager to see the next episode.

I'm dumbfounded as to how this show and The Flash can exist in the same universe. Even if this wasn't a comicbook show it has the worst writing and plots I've ever seen in a TV show that lasted more than 6 episodes.

I don't like much of the writing, some acting feels off for me, and I just am not engaged with Kate Kane and what she's doing. Once season 2 is over I will review it once I am done watching it, because so far I prefer the second season.

Everyone involved, of course, might fare better if they had a decent script, proper lighting, well-choreographed fight scenes and sets that didn’t look as if they had been nailed together from whatever was left after Michael Keaton left the building in 1989. ... For now, though, pure and perfect trash is what we need – and Batwoman provides.
  2. The show doesn’t seem to know how to handle Bruce’s absence, so he’s mentioned at every turn, making Kate feel less like a person with her own story than someone grafted onto his. ... The visual palette is all muddled grays or treacly, warmly lit flashbacks. The fight scenes lack tension and dynamism, relying on quick cuts and multiple angles to manufacture a false sense of energy. There’s also a missing spark of chemistry among the cast.

Batwoman has a welcome amount of openness and information sharing from the get-go. The series also does surprisingly well with establishing several key supporting characters. ... Around Kate Kane and Rose, there's a question mark. The camera is intrigued, gravitating toward her angular features, spiky hair and convincing swagger. I'm not sure she's as good at conveying the required authority or enigmatic mystery.
