Director Jonathan Krisel makes them seamless – and fun. ... Clearly, this is a vanity project but it has worth beyond its fun factor. Krisel goes deeper on some of the family issues and lets Martha reveal personality beyond contempt.

The characters appear to have become unstuck. The show is as funny and heartfelt as ever, but appears to have hopped onto the bullet train of hope along with Chip. This sad clown may find happiness after all.

Comedically, Baskets has basically remained the same, minus some of its more abrasive shades exhibited early on. ... Baskets has always been comfortable playing itself as an unfussy drama, often privileging melancholic portraiture over punchlines. However, this season trades in depression for self-improvement, and the results are more poignant than ever before.
