This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The jump into the future was a clumsy move IMO, but the series was still a joy to have for four seasons. I hope Hader keeps writing and does another series. Expand

One of those shows, which doesn't comply with algorithms aiming for something new and fresh. Even in the fourth season, which is difficult. But it's good that's the last season, looking forward for some closure before it goes downhill.

Still it has dark humor, great acting, sharply written. A treat!

They took everything that was special and enjoyable about Barry and turned it on it's head. Powerful? sure. Something I enjoyed or would even care to remember? No. This whole season was like the Sopranos boardwalk episode(s) but supposedly happened? Eh. I'll count 1-3 as canon.

Honestly the progression of all these characters, all of them, it's so profound. The performances are absolutely incredible and though I know it must end, it will be a melancholy moment. I never would have expected the roller coaster this show has given. Brilliant comedy giving way to award winning performances and gripping drama. Thanks for giving us this guys, master class.

Only two episodes in, and Barry continues to amaze. Its balancing of the comedic and dramatic tones are always perfectly pitched, and Bill Hader continues to amaze in his acting and wonderful directing. His prison scene with the guard, a prime example. Hader's Barry can be heartbreaking one second and scary as hell the next, and yet we never forget what a broken person he is. Special shout out to Stephen Root and, of course, Henry Winkler, who have their own agendas with Barry. Can't wait to see this final season to play out. Expand

I can’t help but feel that Barry tried to mimic the final season of Twin Peaks, but fell so, so short. It’s like anything abstract or nuanced got thrown out the window this season, in favor of hammering home one or two ideas ad nauseam. Characters become alarmingly one-dimensional, and Barry himself acts like an unironic caricature.

Season 4 ruined everything, it was like someone else created it and intentionally destroyed it

A disappointing finish to what had otherwise been a great comedy drama series. Season four continues the precipitous decline of quality that was only glimpsed at on season three's somber tone. Without its balance of humor and drama it becomes self serious and stiff. The plots take half assed turns and undermine itself. Frankly I dont care about it which is unfortunate because this had the potential to be so much more Expand

You know, the last scene of the first episode where Barry goes mcahine mode and just headshots the thugs on the street hooked me, but to be painfully honest, it's never gotten as good as that since. All the Hollywood inside baseball stuff is interesting but just that and nothing more, the cast is outstanding but the writting and story have left me cold more often than not. Reading the inane dithyrambic adulations in the comment section for a show that has turned into a full-blown cartoon with ridiculous plot twists and thinking how a few month later the fanboys will turn against it is what justifies the existence overrated shows. 'member Lost? Game of Thrones? Star **** Wars? Where are they now!

I haven't seen a good dark comedy balance on the line of serious and comedic this well in years. Bill Hader needs to win awards for this and so does NoHo Hank. The series closed out perfectly and some may not like the ending but i thought it was the perfect.

    Go watch this now.

An incredible ended to an incredible show. The easy road is never taken. There is so much going on in the symbolism and themes here. Loved it.

There is certainly a relentless darkness about Barry that gets even darker in its final season. But Hader and Berg still throw in enough absurd moments and character-based humor to keep things from careening into full-on drama. But we’re definitely expecting the final season to be heavily dramatic, and we’re on board for it.

Barry season 4 is Hader's pièce de résistance. There's simply nothing like it.
