    Ballers went from a somewhat funny sendup focused on the issues in, and around, football that opted for more partying than plot in the firstBallers went from a somewhat funny sendup focused on the issues in, and around, football that opted for more partying than plot in the first season to a quality program in which we rooted for Spencer in season two as the characters and storylines evolved. Season three played on the reality of bringing a football team to Vegas, which was a bit over the top and while Spencer became more self-absorbed and much less likeable, there was still some sense of the original football storyline.

    Season four, however, has evolved into a total mess, bringing in the highly overrated Russell Brand, to dazzle us with his British accent, and forcing us into the world of X-sports - even Spencer acknowledged that this was not their world - well what do you think those of us trying to watch this at home felt about it? A comedy about football is now an unfunny, confusing mish mash of business dealings that is neither entertaining or even well written - it's time to punt this one into the TV wasteland.    … Full Review »

    Ballers leans more into the drama side (rather than the upbeat, comedic side) of the show in season four and it works sometimes and doesn'tBallers leans more into the drama side (rather than the upbeat, comedic side) of the show in season four and it works sometimes and doesn't work at all at other times. Spencer slowly becomes a character that is frustrating to watch over the course of the season, but he's been on this trajectory since the first season so it's not super surprising. This is definitely the most inconsistent season yet. When it's good, it's pretty good, but when it's not it's just not very entertaining. Personally, I hope that they lean more towards the comedic side of the show for season five.… Full Review »
