Awkward is still as bitingly sharp as ever. [18/25 Apr 2014, p.100]

For the moment, though, Jenna’s awkwardness remains our pleasure.

None of the new storylines or characters introduced are taking the series into a more meaningful or funnier direction.

É importante referir que o final desta temporada foi muito fraco, o que pode ter influenciado a decisão de muitas pessoas sobre a visualização da quinta temporada. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. After watching this season, the show felt different because it had different showrunners this season. I am not sure if I see this as a good thing or a bad thing.

This season is split into two arcs so I will talk about each arc in this review.

The first arc of the season was really good. I loved how the shady character Eva was used and that her presence affected everyone in the show. Elizabeth Whitson did a good job portraying her. The character development was great all because of Eva basically.

The second arc of the season was well, meh. It felt like the characters had been downgraded. My biggest problem is how Matty and Jenna still had “feelings” with each other. Their relationship is becoming toxic. It felt like it’s an obvious fan service for the Matt and Jenna shippers. The only characters that had very good and interesting character developments were Lacey (Jenna’s mom) and Lissa. It’s too bad that this second half of this season felt like the show was dumbed-down for the demographic.

Even though the show still had the Jenna voiceovers in the background, the show felt like it forgotten about Jenna’s blogs that made Jenna talk over in the background in the first place. I do hope the writers remember that Jenna has a blog next season.

I am not so sure about where this show is headed but I am glad to see that this show will be concluded on the next season so I will be sure to tune in. But I do hope the writers re-capture what made Awkward so great from its previous seasons on the final season.

This final season is “meh” at its best despite how great its first half of the season was.
