It's an excellent show, solid character development and incorporates characters from the The Last Air Bender very well. Also, most of the "bad" reviews are from insecure right-wing man children.

It is a very interesting sequel to the last airbender that takes a look at how the avatar fits into a world of advancing technology, and how she seeks to balance the spirit and physical worlds despite humanity moving towards a secular future. Great and creative combat like the original. I love the 1940's narrator as well as the steampunk aesthetic. Despite many reviewers commenting that Korra is boring due to having more knowledge than Aang at the start and therefore not being a complete rehash of the original, cough. The thing is Korra is noticeably less skilled in combat than Aang is. She struggles regularly whereas most of Aang's difficulties in combat arose from the fragility of his allies. If you enjoyed the last airbender I highly recommend this one. I'd love to see one of the past avatars way back when next... If they make anothet series. Expand

It's an amazing sequel to The Last Airbender that deserves more love.
If you go into LOK expecting the last airbender, you will be sorely dissapointed as it's completely different in how it does things.

If you want to enjoy it more, just watch it, like you are watching a new show.

Don't put expectations of which directions you want the show to go through as it's most likely going to go another direction than that.

70 years have passed and aang brought peace to the world so you're following completely different characters in situations that are not similar at all.

It's like avatar was star wars rebels with a group hiding from the empire (fire nation) while korra is clone wars where life is more peaceful with seasonal threats and more mature themes. It's a spin off sequel so just don't expect anything from what you watched in avatar, expect something completely different.

Just watch it like you watched avatar the last airbender for the first time, not knowing what awaits you and letting the story and world immerse you. Just don't expect the story to go somewhere beforehand.

Why am I telling you all this?

Because this show deserves your full immersion.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra is a worthy successor to Avatar Aang. With her obvious focus on the children who grew up with Avatar Aang (and, therefore, presenting a more adult series), Korra manages to amazingly expand this wonderful universe

But if we look at what it could have and should have been, this is a really big dissapointment. The main problem is Korra. I know she needs to learn and become more wise as the episodes go on, but 12 year old Aang was more wise then this late teenager avatar. She makes so many dumb decisions, and acts like she has never been under pressure. I just can't relate to a character that acts so dumb so many times. A great example is a scene early in the first season where she challenged the uprising leader to a 1v1 duel, even though like 4 scenes before, she was having nightmares about this guy. This just isn't believable writing. Its an ok show but just don't think too much about what is happening, and why it's happening. The animation is of course great but that's pretty much all.

The show was ok, but still really dissapointing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. General Review:
Having only recently watching, and loving, Avatar: The Last Air Bender (ATLAB), I was excited to watch the sequel series and see how they expanded on the original show and overall I was not disappointed. I had read online comments that the creators had ruined the show by forcing in political correctness but after watched the entire series I have no idea what they were upset by.
When compared to ATLAB Korra falls a little short of the original but is by no means a bad show. If judged on its own merits it is a very solid watching suitable for all ages, with many jokes aimed at younger viewers but also some more mature concepts like Korra’s PTSD in the last season.

The Good:
The animation is great and very consistent throughout the entire series. I thoroughly enjoyed the clean art style and anyone who is a fan of anime will appreciate the artwork and animation.
Barring season one the consequences of the decision and actions made by Korra in each season flowed into the next season and continued the story in a way where it felt like one story and not 4 separate stories which was fantastic to see (unlike some shows – looking at you Dragon Ball Super).
Apart from the titular Korra the show had a strong host of characters that were part of the main cast that all get their time to shine; help forward the storyline in a meaningful way; each have their own weaknesses and strengths and their interactions with each other feel natural and relatable for the most part.
The extension of the lore was excellent. It was great to see how the Avatar became to be, where it gets its power from. We also get to see how ancient humans used to live and how the lion turtles that were pivotal to the plot of ATLAB fit into the history of humans and also the Avatar.

The Bad:
MEELO. This character is my most hated character from a show in a long time. I am not trying to say I am too mature to enjoy a fart joke (I hope I never reach that age) but when a character’s entire personality is just fart jokes it becomes old very fast.
I felt at times the show had some issue with pacing, especially when compared to ATLAB. In ATLAB all four seasons were about Aang mastering the four elements and preparing for a final battle with one big baddie who was super powered by a cosmical event. There were other villains along the way however the final battle had, by far, the biggest consequences. In the legend of Korra there was a different villain in each season and the one that seemed to have the biggest consequence was in season two, where Korra faced off against a super powered Dark Avatar that threatened to destroy the entire universe, after that the stakes seemed to decrease significantly with season three’s villains being a group of normal benders who just wanted to create anarchy and chaos and destroy the established power hierarchy and the final boss from season 4 was a would-be tyrant who wanted to take over the world and rule with an iron fist. Despite both the villains in season 3 and 4 being despicable and unlikable they pale in comparison to an all powerful spirit that threatens to plunge all of existence into darkness and destruction for 10,000 years.

Lack of explanation for lava bending and Amon’s ability to remove others’ bending powers:
In ATLAB Aang defeats the fire lord by using spirit bending to remove his fire bending abilities permanently, it was established that this is a very difficult thing to accomplish, especially against powerful foes, and has dire consequences if failed to be used correctly. In The Legend of Korra the first villain Amon also has this ability but it is no longer via spirit bending but rather an extension of his blood bending (which is itself an extension of water bending). It is never explained how blood bending can remove others’ bending powers or how Amon learnt this ability in the first place. After it was such a pivotal moment in the final fight of ATLAB and shown to be a huge risk it was a bit disappointing to see some random guy can now do the same to anyone (including the Avatar) with seemingly no risks. Again in ATLAB the newly discovered ability of metal bending was explained and we got to see how Toph learnt the ability which was great to see how the previously established powers could be built upon, we also saw a similar in-show explanation on how blood bending worked as an extension of water bending. In the Legend of Korra we also learn of a new power called lava bending, but unlike other newly introduced powers this is never explained. Lava bending is an extension of earth bending but that is all the information we are provided. It would have been nice to learn how this power was discovered and to know how it works.

Final Thoughts:
If you enjoyed Avatar: The Last Airbender I highly recommend watching The Legend of Korra, although it is not quite as good as the original series it is a very good follow up and enjoyable on its own merits.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you appreciated everything that avatar the last airbender was, legend of korra destroys it. It feels almost disrespectful to Aang and the history of the past. Not only that, but by episode 4 they develope a love triangle between the main characters. Korra is very unlikeable and often rude. The best episodes are the ones about the original first avatar, and they don't even take place during Korra. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very good series, alghough it needs to be more epic. Season 1 disappointed me with its endindg. This season has a good conflict and a great villain, but all that for what?, so that Amon would not cause any consequences in the story and everyone would end up happy. In conclusion, they wasted the potential that the season had.

Another point that i did not like was the fact that there are too many comic and partly stupid characters (Wu, Bumi, Varrick and Bolin). From the above, as much as they try to the funny, they do not succeed. It is not that it is wrong that they use this resource, but in the series they over-exploit .

This is my order from the best to the worst season: 3, 2, 4 and 1.

They did not take as much time to develop the friendships between the main characters as much as Avatar: The Last Airbender for it, which was a mistake. But, at its best, this series does start to reach ATLA levels.

The first season is a mixed bag of good ideas that don't all work together, resulting in some tonal problems but a decent overall story. I would give it probably a 7 out of 10.

The second season is pretty much completely irredeemable in my opinion, and I would recommend just skipping it. You won't miss much. I would give it like a 2 out of 10.

The second season is worth it, though, for the third season, which is the high point. The third season builds and builds to an extremely satisfying conclusion, setting up for a great last season. I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.

The fourth season has a lot of great ideas on how to for how to follow up on the third season, but again sometimes they don't focus enough on those ideas and instead split time with other, less interesting plot lines. I would give the final season an 8 out of 10.

Overall, if you love Avatar, I think this series is worth watching for the third and fourth seasons. Unfortunately, I can't escape the feeling that this could have been so much better. I really hope that they make another series in this universe.

Well no **** it's different, it's also complete trash "compared" to the "standard" that was set by Avatar: The Last Airbender. There are momentary lapses in this 'sequel' at just about every corner that make no sense at all, like her supposed 'popularity rating' to be at like 9% because apparently she's involved in politics (contradiction to the entire purpose of the show) and like the Avatar struggling in a fight in her AVATAR STATE against a rather weak adversary who only knows 1 element, but she can defeat rather powerful adversaries earlier on where she was less experienced. There are moments where rather weak characters suddenly have extremely rare unlocked skills, right at a time where its needed most, like where a character suddenly knows how to "lava bend" - so all of a sudden new bending is mastered by complete rookies completely defying thousands of years of Avatar lore. There are times when the master airbender explains how difficult it is to master a bison, yet a kid suddenly masters it seconds later. The entire show feels incredibly rushed and cuts corners and bends the narrative as it pleases, it begins to sap the essence out of the Avatar name. The original show was a masterpiece all round, but this 'sequel' was a cash grab, no more no less. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no knowlege of the Avatar beyond the live action movie. My take on TLOK is more of a preview than a review. I watched all of book one and enjoyed it. Korra is powerful, but not all powerful. She tries and fails and tries and fails again. Learns from and needs help from her old mentor and new friends. Her romantic conflict, heroes journey and spritiutal arc seem all done in book one that I hazard to go beyond book one. On the techincal side the animation was fun and exciting to watch. The shows rating did hold in back somewhat for me as an adult, but hey this is one more for the kids right? I got it for the kids, but they passed on it (fronite/apex is king). So I thought I would give it a try and was pleasntly surprised so far.

Update: Oh whoa Korra is for some reason in a later season a bi-sexual and falls for a women she showed no interest in season one? Did Korra get a new avatar power? "Sexuality Bending" or something mid seasons? She was all the dudes in season one, wtf lol? Glad I stopped at season one then when it all made kind of sense story and plot wise.

Its lessons are far-reaching and poignant, and it arguably even outshines the prequel at key moments.

As stated earlier, this show has a few hiccups: Bo Lin can sometimes be a frustrating character to endure, and the show's ending feels quite abrupt. But despite those minor nitpicks, the show starts off strong in its first season, and mostly keeps that pace going (though not completely) in its 2nd and 3rd seasons. And controversial as it may seem, the show's 4th season shows some of its strongest characterization for Korra.

Overall, the Legend of Korra humanizes a hero, and her struggles, for the most part, induce so many powerful emotions. While arguably not the juggernaut its predecessor was, the series truly shines in unique and powerful ways that the Last Airbender could not.

When i started watching i was a bit skeptical, (bc my friends said it was bad) but it changed shortly after, and here's why:

To enjoy TLOK you have to understand every Avatar was different, so was the environment they were born and so was the world they lived in. In Korra's lifetime we meet with progress (like tech, democracy, new ways to use bending, etc) and you also witness where society is still very flawed after Aang's actions to restore peace. The Avatar is the bridge between worlds but also a person figuring out it's place in the world like us, with tremendous expectations from the others, like they are the key to solve every problem, when they are also learning about life. Aang didn't wanted to be the Avatar, Korra embraced it since a child. Korra's story tells us more about the emotional weight of being the Avatar and what's their place in the world as an individual and the struggle to try to save everything, but you forget about yourself while meeting others expectations and the Avatar's duties. This series doesn't give you a the ''expected hero'', but someone who has growth to do and no one else can solve it but themselves, and making mistakes is what brings that growth. Korra ends up being much more relatable than Aang, because she has much to grow as an individual, Aang who was born a monk, and therefore he had another mindset, who was quite mature for a 14 year old, peaceful, unassertive and still had his childish fun side. Korra was impulsive there by didn't hide her true feelings, much stronger, independent, sarcastic and assertive with admirable compassion, devotion and loyalty. Aang and Korra are the opposites of each other in personality and this is what many people dont like, cuz the Avatar is supposed to be the hero everyone wishes to see, someone that knows what's doing for the greater good without causalities in the middle. Another thing is the antagonists where you can also relate with some of their causes but probably not their choices, and that is important too. They are characters that seek ways to make the world better and more balanced without the Avatar, when that is supposed to be the Avatar's duties. Is not the cliche of wanting power for the sake of it like the previous firelords.

Is not a perfect series but it shows much more than just ''good'' against ''evil'' and who wins and who loses. Many of korra's causalities brought something new to the world where we can make things work, and as individuals we must adapt and evolve with it too to make it better despise the obstacles.
