I was highly disappointed with the treatment of this classic. Political agendas and modern ideaologies are apparently more important to the director than the plot. While, I found the aesthetic value of this season intriguing, I was disappointed with the insertion of contemporary agendas and ideas. It makes the series feel cheap and corny.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 1 was wonderful but season 2 was a hot mess. The characters became dark, the plots was heavy and the once family friendly kid friendly show was turned into a lesson about homosexuality and sex. So many things went off the cliff. The flirty teacher and the student who clearly in season 1 were crazy about each other leaving no doubt they would marry some day unfolded in season 2 strangely leaving thoughts of, “did I miss something in season 1?” The Teacher turned from annoying in season 1 to down right cruel and hateful in season 2. And what in the world happened to Matthews fearlessness? He fought to keep Anne but season 2 left him broken. Besides the cross dressing men, blatant in your face lessons in homosexuality (if it feels good do it) and lack of kid friendly material, I did appreciate how Marilla came around both with Anne and standing up for herself. If only producers could stick with the original Anne, the one that children and families fell in love with. Leave it to Hollywood to smear innocence with darkness and perversion. The lesson of, “if it feels good do it.” Think of yourself and it’s all about what makes you happy regardless of who or what you leave behind. It was easy for Cole to give up and abandon his family in order to “be himself.” Expand

The acting is very good. The scripts this season are terrible. The entire season has revolved into PC. They have been successful in turning a interesting show into a predictable, boring, and illogical mess. Season 1 was wonderful. Season 2 was terrible. We will not be watching season 3.

Loved season 1! Couldn't wait for season 2! Very disappointed with season 2 beginning with episode 7, and it immediately lost my interest. Not sure why writers/producers feel the need (or pressure) to introduce homosexual topics and try to make a political statement. Great actors, cinematography and music. Wish they'd kept it light and enjoyable. When willLoved season 1! Couldn't wait for season 2! Very disappointed with season 2 beginning with episode 7, and it immediately lost my interest. While Season 1 was fantastic, Season 2 truly disappoints. I cannot recommend it sadly. It completely gets away from the children's book and has terrible plot and writing particularly later episodes in the season.

CAN ANYONE SAY SOAP OPERA? Anne with an E was, for part of season 1, like re-uniting with an old friend. In season 2, however, the writers are up to their old tricks teaching the viewers untruths designed to DE-sensitize an already sick minded infatuation driven world. Anne with an E was, for part of season 1, like re-uniting with an old friend. In season 2, however, the writers are up to their old tricks teaching the viewers untruths designed to DE-sensitize an already sick minded infatuation driven world. Anne of Green Gables was a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, set in the late 19th century, a time of righteous living, religious standards and relative social purity for the majority of honest hard working folks, but now the writers want to scandalize even this cleaner social time period so that it looks to be like today's wicked standards of filth. Anne, in season 1 was a bit too saucy for a youngster in the late 1800's, always sounding like she's reading from a prose and poetry book, but in this version, is an annoying know-it-all girl with indecent thoughts who 'teaches' everyone around her that it's OK to be a little wicked as long as it's done with her ridiculous sounding 'romantical' thoughts, meaning sexually motivated.
Also in season 2, apparently, several 'good folk' are involved with gratuitous homosexual thoughts. There go the writers making their political views! Maybe in season 3 we'll get to meet a farm hand deeply in 'love' with his horse. Yes, there were homosexual persons back then as well, but the writers are giving the viewers the distinct impression that this was the norm, but people were ashamed to 'come out'. No, this was NOT the norm back then as it is today, the writers are simply implying this; teaching people how to rebel and usher in a freewheeling anarchistic society where no one is governed by rules in the least. These very writers who claim that society is too judgmental are themselves left-wing socialists using judgment in a wild and wicked way. Please do NOT allow your children to watch this show; it does not embrace godly values; it's just another show that attempts to teach immorality wrapped up in a warm fuzzy 'olde world' type-cast setting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After watching Season 1, I was looking forward to the second season. I am sad to say that season 2 was VERY disappointing. The plot was quite awful and moved away from being child-friendly as the season progressed.

For me there were two large disappointments. First, Matthew's character was devolved into a man who did not get over his childhood fears. This stands in great contrast to the person who, in Season 1, moved heaven and earth to find Anne and bring her back to Green Gables.

The second disappointment lies in the movie's final message. The new season introduces a new character by the name of Cole. During the season we learn that he is the only boy in the family (and has four sisters - three which are below school age ). The oldest sister is not sent to school. She stays at home to help with the younger children and chores. During the season we learn that Cole is needed at home to help with the work of the farm, but his family sacrifices itself so that he can attend school.

In the end, Cole chooses to abandon his family because he wants to be "himself". What a message of SELFISHNESS - expressing oneself is more important than looking out for the welfare of ones family. His mother, sisters (remember that three are below school age), and father can starve, but Cole cannot sacrifice his self expression.

The way they managed to put diversity, was so simple but so profoundly, simply incredible. The touch in every emotional scene, the line the story followed, it was really perfect and we got to knew more from more caractheres. I'm thrilled that we can get a series with such heart and soul in a kind and warming way. Anne is inspiration.

With season 2 of Anne with an E I have found my new all-time favorite television series. The way each and every character came to multi-dimensional life in this story was also achieved so amazingly. The best! Expand

Anne likes playing the role of a boy. Her male friend is gay. Her other male friend brings a black man into the farms and a whole plot revolves just around his skin colour. Her female friend's aunt has lived as a lesbian all her life and had a lesbian lover.

This is so upsetting because the show is shot so well, the actors were selected so well and in all those moments when the show isn't attempting to be all social justice all over the place, it is so endearing! But it is social justice all over the place. I actually ended up liking Season 1, even though I didn't like the ending. I despise season 2.

Despite the periods of melancholy and turmoil, this season feels more energetic and subsequently lighter because of the faster pace. It also is more comfortable in its skin and handles humor in its everyday situations deftly while also poking fun at itself.

More of the same: superb visual vistas; darkly gothic plotlines that show a baffling disregard for the homespun charm of L.M. Montgomery's books. [6 Jul 2018, p.45]
