With both Angel and Cordelia still missing, Fred, Gunn and Connor try to keep Angel Investigations running whilst they search for the missing Angel and Cordelia.

There were undoubtedly still some bright spots during Angel’s fourth season, with episodes like ‘Spin the Bottle’ still capturing the unique humour of this and its parent show, but overall it’s hard to view this as anything

There were undoubtedly still some bright spots during Angel’s fourth season, with episodes like ‘Spin the Bottle’ still capturing the unique humour of this and its parent show, but overall it’s hard to view this as anything other than a disappointment. Angel’s son Connor is arguably the most irritating character to appear in any Josh Whedon show, and the way Cordelia (who had by this point become a fan favourite) was unceremoniously changed and then written out made you feel that something must have gone on behind the scenes. If you’ve been a fan up to this point it’s still worth a watch, but this is not a show anywhere near its best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A strong story arch makes this season a little more interesting than previous seasons (though not as good as the last season). All the romantic tension is sometimes great, sometimes grating. Expand

The best season so far. This time we get an incredible main story arc, garnished with twists, revelations and character development / interactions. The bad guys here are so good that it is a shame that I cant talk about them. I consider spoilers here even worse. There will be a lot of shocking twist and reveals. Also the moral ambiguity. I am not sure who is right at the end. It is maybeThe best season so far. This time we get an incredible main story arc, garnished with twists, revelations and character development / interactions. I am not sure who is right at the end. It is maybe the best we as humanity could get and Wolfram & Hart has their own opinion but I will stop here. Lets say you get a lot of stuff for discussions about philosophies and the price of peace, safety and freedom. The character arcs are also top notch. Wesley and Lilah development feels natural. Connor is better in this season. His struggles made him more sympathetic or you can at least understand his motives. He is after all a tortured soul. Cordelia, Gunn and Fred have also good arcs with Cordelia as clear winner. Lorne is always good and slowly becomes a favourite character for many. Angel has a phenomenal arc and a related character comes back. We get Faith back in action who has an even better chemistry with Angel than before. With Gwen we got an interesting side character with an ability that is a bless and a curse at the same time. All characters deliver and we got the best interactions so far. I will praise the whole cast and writers. If there is a negative point than it is that this season split the audience. Many consider this season as disappointment while other praise this as pure awesomeness. I was amazed about the ideas and many things from previous seasons that had a hidden meaning. There are a lot of favorite episodes here: Deep Down is a fitting start and solves the cliffhanger from last seasons ending. Supersymmetry deals with Freds past and changes relationships. Spin the bottle has a hilarious curse and so much humor. Apocalypse Nowish and Habeas Corpus has many highlights, twists and shocking moments. It is even better in hindsight when you know the hidden agendas. Awakening brings back a favorite bad guy and plays with expectations for a while. Cavalry has the most shocking reveal in the series. Anyone who predicted that has my respect. Salvage and Release add Faith to the mix and are the next highlight. Orpheus gives us a lot of insights into Angel and his past. Sacrifice and Peace Out deliver the awesome final battle. But the last episode Home is even better. The crew gets an offer they cant reject. It is so surprising and fitting. This is maybe an even greater twist and creates the groundwork for the best and final season. Overall this was the most intense and best season so far. It gave me a lot to enjoy and think about. Also the ending of this season , so great ;-). Expand
