Angel’s second season is simply fantastically entertaining television combining drama and comedy in the way that only Josh Whedon can, and with the introduction of Lorne and the lovely Fred it has one of the best supporting casts you’ll find anywhere, If you enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer and/or Angel’s first season you’re sure to love this.

The second season added an overarching story arc. It is the about Angels past in a time with Darla and Drusilla as it becomes relevant again, about his resolve and the dark path he has chosen to fight for the greater good. Also it is about what the other characters add to Angel. Like Batman needs a Robin to save him from slipping into darkness he needs Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn to to the same. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and small step after step or compromise after compromise can take you there. For new characters we get Lorne who adds a lot to this show. He is the demon host of a karaoke bar, a talented singer with some special talents and a counterpart to the dark broody Angel. Pretty late we got (Wini)Fred. A really bad thing happen to her and she will become one of the best characters of the show. We got villains from Angels past that can hurt him physically and emotional and of cause more from our favourite devilish law firm Wolfram & Hart. Lindsey and Lilah are again at their best. Gavin was introduced and I like his rivalry with Lilah. There are a lot of good episodes: Judgement is a subtle start that foreshadows some events and a small guest appearance of Faith. Untouched shows a bit of Lilah and her role in Wolfram & Hart with good exchanges with Angel in a matured story. The Trial shows Angels resolve and will shock you. Reunion is a game changer and will even shock you more. Blood Money has the interesting character Boone (A shame that they did not more with him) and Angel plotting. Reprise is another game changer as Wolfram & Hart gets an inspection by the higher ups. Lets say the headcount decreased significant the last time this was done. The ending is a shocker that is fitting with the theme. The last 3-4 episodes deal with Pylea, a parallel dimension where Lorne comes from. It is as much entertaining as it can get. Disharmony gets a guest appearance from Harmony and tells about the dangers of a snow ball system;-). Overall they get an intense and meaningful story arc filled with seriousness and great humour. The character development and interactions are improving this a lot and it is easily a 10/10. Expand
