The characters are somewhat interesting, the story is coherent but slow, the dialogue is alright, and the effects are fine. Nothing stands out as being particularly strong or weak. Overall, it's just okay.

Disney corporation keeps putting out series and movies under the premise that more is better but it is tiresome and quality pays dearly. This show is less childish than the rest but it is still a "family" thing like all things streaming these days.

So... 5 episodes into Andor and I'm still wondering if anything is going to happen.

I'm not sure why there's a following for this show.

The production is good, overall, but the writing is pretty terrible. The visuals, cinematography and score are pretty great. It feels like you're watching a movie. The dialogue is written well, but it's much to do about nothing... the acting is fine, but the characters are taking us nowhere fast. The sub-plots/side stories are pretty meaningless.

If not for the name of the show, I wouldn't even know this was Star Wars. It feels more like Krypton, but with less action... which is not a good thing. Krypton drudged along at a snail's pace with equally meaningless drivel, but at least there was a story that moved forward with action sequences and conflicts that meant something.

I think I've seen maybe 3 droids, 2 aliens, and zero alien creatures. How is this Star Wars and how is it remotely entertaining for people?

Look at the poster... looks pretty exciting right? It's not. Bait and switch.

Why the good reviews, then?

I think some have been beaten down with so much **** material, over the last few years, that they'll just accept anything that has good production value and zero wokeness as "good."

Andor isn't good. It suffers from weak writing, sub-plots that lead nowhere and provides zero reason for anyone new to Star Wars or Andor to remain engaged. I can't get the comparison of this to Krypton out of my head, because the two shows are very similar.

If you have to say "it's slow, but it's building up to something big" or "it's a slow burn, but it's good," or something along those lines, then it's not a good show. A good show shouldn't seem like a slow burn, or that it's building up to something big... it should give you a reason to become engaged and hang on. Even Star Trek or Babylon 5 could do that in 1-2 episodes... We're 5 episodes into Andor and nothing's happened.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Boring. Boring. Boring. I'm four episodes into this series and all I know is that dude's name is Cassian Andor and that he's Kelarian, and looking for his sister, but then it turned into him trying to sell an innocuous stolen ship part for money, and now he's joining the rebels to steal Empire money and forgetting about the sister. Every line of dialogue with every character is "Who are you?", "Why is he joining us?", "You're a Klerian?", "That's not the plan", "That's not what I was told", "Give me money", and "Who are you?", and nothing that gives us any insight to the plot. All the leaders are female and overly questioning/distrusting of Cassian's existence in every scene. Look, you are either need him or you kill him if you're that suspicious. But why him? Why Cassian Andor? He's literally every generic background character on these planets. Apparently he's Kelarian, which is a noticeable trait. A flashback showed Andor's childhood as a Klerian, and they are actually a child tribal race that has zero technology, no civilization. Even the Ewoks on Endor had buildings. They fight using blow darts, BLOW DARTS! Against actual weapons. They don't even have spears or knives. And of course, its led by alpha girl-boss teenage girls, the boys just simply fall in line behind them. An imperial ship crashes and a basic soldier is able to take out members of this Klerian tribe, while 30-40 of these Klerian kids shoot blow darts at him which takes forever to take him out. And the Empire comes and takes out all the Klerian with no resistance. Andor is saved by some old **** named Maarva who spent her life keeping his Klerian identity a secret, why? Klerians are no threat to anyone. They have no abilities and no technology like a Mandalorian or even Mon Calamari. Like every modern Star Wars antagonist Andor lives a predictable rough life with no parents, and gets by stealing ship parts for money. Apparently, the Empire thinks very highly of this basic component which Andor later says becomes useless if it's plugged in or used. So then we change the stakes to Andor being recruited by some old dude who tells Andor "I know who you are Cassian Andor" and doesn't tell us anything else. And like every other male in the cast he answers to a woman. Expand

This series was never going to be vital watching in the Star Wars canon, but it seems the creators are more than content to make a meaningless piece of backstory as there is no real interesting hook or twist to make viewers care. Andor himself just kind of gets thrown into the story and goes along with it. The antagonists are just about as wooden and generic as you can get in Star Wars. I don't care about them and don't care about how Andor holds up against them. We all know exactly how this story ends so they might have done more to make us interested in what is happening right now. But everything is done with such a dreary tone it has missed a lot of what makes Star Wars fun and exciting. Sure, Rogue One was a more serious and dark Star Wars story, but it also did a great job connecting to A New Hope with some fan favorite characters and intersecting plot. Andor has none of that, and if you did not know his character from Rogue One there is little connection to the larger Star Wars universe for fans to sink their teeth into. All of this would be fine if it was telling an interesting original story with characters we cared about, but sadly that is not the case. This does not feel like a good Star Wars story or a good story on its own right, and Andor is certainly not a strong enough character to carry a bland and meaningless story like this on his own. This isMature doesn't need to be boring, but Andor tries as HARD as possible to bore the absolute **** out of the audience, with 7 of the 8 current episodes ending on flat notes, devoid of any legitimate curiosity for the next installment. This is as forgettable as it gets; the writers and the directors don't have a clue about Star Wars. George Lucas, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson, Irvin Kirshner, Richard Marquand; these guys followed Lucas' vision of a rich galaxy, full of wizardry, adventure, battles amongst the stars, alien planets with ACTUAL aliens, and entertaining droids abound. None of that will be found here, as most of the so-called spectacle of this series centers around a bunch of talking heads, speaking in the extremely condescending, yet unrealistic, cryptic ways, to one another. If you all want mature, mysterious, brooding, thrilling, yet something that still gets a laugh often (this show hasn't an inkling of humor in it), then watch something like... Twin Peaks, but leave Andor to the trash compactor of the Death Star, where it belongs. Expand

All they have to doI don't know what it is, modern feminists or woke equity politics, but how do you do such a bad job with something so easy. The source material has already established a massive fan base, and the story is already written. All they have to do is transcribe it from book to screen, and you'd have the best show of the decade. It's so simple. You have to be a extremely bad writer/director/producer to make something so great so bad. It's also extremely unethical to take someone's life's work and change the source material with such disrespect. Then, just to make everything so much worse, you add on top of that fan baiting. Fan Baiting is done on purpose to not only stir up controversy for publicity but also serves as a barrier to real criticism and ensures that the show will succeed because if anyone has a different opinion, they will just be labeled as a "racist/sexist/transphobe/etc." and their opinion is ignored. It's a method to make everyone think you're virtuous when really you're just a horrible person spreading hate with anyone who has a different opinion than your own. You act like you're fighting fascism by spreading and using fascism. It's hypocrisy in action. Expand

I just finished the season finally as it was a busy fall but I had to come here and discuss this amazing show.

I was a huge fan of Rogue One and was excited when I heard that this show wasn't using the volume (I think it's cool but I think Disney doubled down on it too much).

Episode 10 was some of my favorite Star Wars content I've EVER seen and after finishing the season without a doubt this is the best Disney+ Star Wars or Marvel show to date and I think is up there for me with Severance for my favorite shows of 2022!

I hope that Disney recognizes how successful this show was and can bring similar aspects to their other Disney+ properties.

The closes we got before this was Rouge One. So when this show was announced to star one of the main characters from Rouge One along with the same director, It seemed their was a possibility of a mature Star Wars. This shows accomplishes that. However, that is also it's problem. Now I am glad we got this and this is a great series. But if you really want to see Star Wars familiar tropes, well don't expect it here. It did even put me off a little at points. It's biggest problem is also it's biggest strength. It's is a slow series. I can't help but feels like this 12 episodes series could have reduced to 10. But where it makes up for that is the climax of each event. The reason for the slow build up was so that the climax of each story is more satisfying when it finally comes. But what really does not help is that their are just so many subplots with other characters. Some of which doesn't really affect anything. Some episodes have some many subplots that Andor seems barely in that episode. This issues kind of mean to me that Andor, despite being great, is a very one and done series. You watch it once and really enjoy it, but you don't really want to rewatch it. With also being a few weeks pasted it's finally episodes, I have to say that I really don't miss it too much. But I will be excited to see what Season 2 will bring. Expand

It creates a tense thriller in a dense atmosphere full of interesting characters that viewers without much knowledge of Star Wars can enjoy just the same as long time fans. I really enjoyed Star Wars: Rogue One. The more gritty take on Star Wars with a focus on non-Jedi, regular people was a great part of that movie.

However, I never cared for a prequel on the character of Cassian Andor from that movie. I liked the character in the movie but I didn't love him as much as Obi-Wan or Boba Fett.

To my surprise, his show is probably one of the best Star Wars shows so far. I love the darker and more mature storytelling of Andor. There are no jokes at all in this show. The struggles of the Rebels against the empire are gripping. The visuals and practical set are terrific. The acting is phenomenal and the characters are all interesting.

This feels like a Star Wars aimed at adults and I love it! Looking forward to season 2 and hopefully more Star Wars content of similar quality!

It uses the star wars lore as a setting rather than fan service form the movies. It starts out a bit bland and takes it time for the better, but it's easy to fall off from the first few episodes. Enjoyed it more than the middling rogue one or brain dead episode 9 of the sequel trilogy.

That being said it's a Disney plus show so set your expectations appropriately. It's a pretty good show with a few excellent episodes. A lot of the hype it's getting is likely because most of the marvel and star wars shows have not exactly been consistent masterpieces.

Finally, a Star Wars spin off for adults.

Well written, well acted. No stupid jokes or nods to children Disney, create more shows like this and less like Boba Fett.

Enjoyed it very much. Please make more series like this, not like the bad Obi Wan series. We also need more movies like SW Rogue One.

The best thing ever produced in the Star Wars universe. Thoughtful, political (without being overbearing) and well crafted.

Up to now almost every modern film and series (bar a couple) felt like a soulless cash out with no intention beyond continuing the status quo. This is a fantastic show disregarding it’s franchise but also a fantastic stars wars story that actually contributes and adds to the world. The plot is tight, the characters are all extremely interesting and the direction has style and integrity to it. Intriguing and compelling tv that justifies it’s slower pace. Expand

Best live action Star Wars since OT. It's adult and very different from the rest of the SW universe but that is what makes this show so good. Very well written, great acting.

No llega al nivel de The Mandalorian pero se come a Obi Wan Kenobi en casi todo. Me ha gustado cómo ha ido evolucionando y generando su propia personalidad hasta dar con un producto bastante sólido y creo que la segunda temporada promete.

This is a great show (especially if you are a fan of Rogue One) that happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. Although held back by some slow, unneeded back-story, it is full of fantastic story-telling and visuals.

TV is so fast paced these days, it's refreshing to have a chance to digest what they are giving to us. I am also not feeling desperate to watch the next episode, which is a good thing. after watching an episode, I feel satisfied and content. I will certainly watch the next episode, but not because I have to, because I want to. Expand

Everything from the characters, to the score, to the writing, to the production value... Everything about this show is amazing. It simultaneously presents the Empire at its most horrific, and also at its most human. It shows the Rebellion not just as the righteous group of heroes, but as a ragged group of people trying to do the right thing, who have to make incredibly difficult choices for the greater good. And that final episode... Oh, my gosh, that final episode... I'm tearing up just thinking about this show. If you haven't watched this show, or stopped after the first few episodes... I implore you. Watch it. Try it again. This show is a masterpiece.

Considering what else Disney has done to the Star Wars IP, this is a welcome entry. As The Little Platoon has observed, "Andor is by far the most intelligent entry into the Star Wars canon in the Disney era. Some of the concepts it deploys and philosophical inspirations it takes make it one of the most intelligent shows on TV generally. Problems with pacing regrettably turned a good many people off, but it doesn't change the fact that Andor is a much better show than you've been led to believe." Expand

I watched the full season and I'll watch any additional seasons. However, my fundamental complaint about the show can be seen in the first two scenes. It's what's wrong with all of the SW stories right now, imo.
Scene 1 - cold blood murder a trumped-up security guard so as not to leave a witness behind. Holy crap! This is hard core!
Scene 2 - space dogs run up and pee on a robot. What?!? Is this the same show? Two different writers with different ideas on what this show is about? After murdering someone it's important to have a slapstick stupid comedy bit for the kids?
Sigh... come on writers... give us an adult star wars story that doesn't need silly-stupid to be on-brand.
