Very good.
It is a different take on Star Wars universe, with tones and thematic similar to a ww2 resistance movie or a cold-war spy novel.
Adult situations, blurred morals, good fx, good action scenes, meaningful dramas. Touching dialogues that represents the flaws in both rebel and empire beliefs, describing the sadness of a conflict; creating a thoughtful way to engage with star wars world.

I watched the full season and I'll watch any additional seasons. However, my fundamental complaint about the show can be seen in the first two scenes. It's what's wrong with all of the SW stories right now, imo.
Scene 1 - cold blood murder a trumped-up security guard so as not to leave a witness behind. Holy crap! This is hard core!
Scene 2 - space dogs run up and pee on a robot. What?!? Is this the same show? Two different writers with different ideas on what this show is about? After murdering someone it's important to have a slapstick stupid comedy bit for the kids?
Sigh... come on writers... give us an adult star wars story that doesn't need silly-stupid to be on-brand.

Everything from the characters, to the score, to the writing, to the production value... Everything about this show is amazing. It simultaneously presents the Empire at its most horrific, and also at its most human. It shows the Rebellion not just as the righteous group of heroes, but as a ragged group of people trying to do the right thing, who have to make incredibly difficult choices for the greater good. And that final episode... Oh, my gosh, that final episode... I'm tearing up just thinking about this show. If you haven't watched this show, or stopped after the first few episodes... I implore you. Watch it. Try it again. This show is a masterpiece.

Considering what else Disney has done to the Star Wars IP, this is a welcome entry. As The Little Platoon has observed, "Andor is by far the most intelligent entry into the Star Wars canon in the Disney era. Some of the concepts it deploys and philosophical inspirations it takes make it one of the most intelligent shows on TV generally. Problems with pacing regrettably turned a good many people off, but it doesn't change the fact that Andor is a much better show than you've been led to believe." Expand

All they have to doI don't know what it is, modern feminists or woke equity politics, but how do you do such a bad job with something so easy. The source material has already established a massive fan base, and the story is already written. All they have to do is transcribe it from book to screen, and you'd have the best show of the decade. It's so simple. You have to be a extremely bad writer/director/producer to make something so great so bad. It's also extremely unethical to take someone's life's work and change the source material with such disrespect. Then, just to make everything so much worse, you add on top of that fan baiting. Fan Baiting is done on purpose to not only stir up controversy for publicity but also serves as a barrier to real criticism and ensures that the show will succeed because if anyone has a different opinion, they will just be labeled as a "racist/sexist/transphobe/etc." and their opinion is ignored. It's a method to make everyone think you're virtuous when really you're just a horrible person spreading hate with anyone who has a different opinion than your own. You act like you're fighting fascism by spreading and using fascism. It's hypocrisy in action. Expand

I really enjoyed Star Wars: Rogue One. The more gritty take on Star Wars with a focus on non-Jedi, regular people was a great part of that movie.

However, I never cared for a prequel on the character of Cassian Andor from that movie. I liked the character in the movie but I didn't love him as much as Obi-Wan or Boba Fett.

To my surprise, his show is probably one of the best Star Wars shows so far. I love the darker and more mature storytelling of Andor. There are no jokes at all in this show. The struggles of the Rebels against the empire are gripping. The visuals and practical set are terrific. The acting is phenomenal and the characters are all interesting.

This feels like a Star Wars aimed at adults and I love it! Looking forward to season 2 and hopefully more Star Wars content of similar quality!

This isMature doesn't need to be boring, but Andor tries as HARD as possible to bore the absolute **** out of the audience, with 7 of the 8 current episodes ending on flat notes, devoid of any legitimate curiosity for the next installment. This is as forgettable as it gets; the writers and the directors don't have a clue about Star Wars. George Lucas, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson, Irvin Kirshner, Richard Marquand; these guys followed Lucas' vision of a rich galaxy, full of wizardry, adventure, battles amongst the stars, alien planets with ACTUAL aliens, and entertaining droids abound. None of that will be found here, as most of the so-called spectacle of this series centers around a bunch of talking heads, speaking in the extremely condescending, yet unrealistic, cryptic ways, to one another. If you all want mature, mysterious, brooding, thrilling, yet something that still gets a laugh often (this show hasn't an inkling of humor in it), then watch something like... Twin Peaks, but leave Andor to the trash compactor of the Death Star, where it belongs. Expand

While the beginning is a little slow and less flashy than what we're used to from this franchise it only gets better with every episode. This show which is basically the spin-off of a spin-off accomplishes something phenomenal. It creates a tense thriller in a dense atmosphere full of interesting characters that viewers without much knowledge of Star Wars can enjoy just the same as long time fans. Yet even though it works excellent as a stand alone show without tons of Star Wars references and fan service it still recontextualizes the original trilogy by showing us the real face of the empire. It uses the star wars lore as a setting rather than fan service form the movies. It starts out a bit bland and takes it time for the better, but it's easy to fall off from the first few episodes. Enjoyed it more than the middling rogue one or brain dead episode 9 of the sequel trilogy.

That being said it's a Disney plus show so set your expectations appropriately. It's a pretty good show with a few excellent episodes. A lot of the hype it's getting is likely because most of the marvel and star wars shows have not exactly been consistent masterpieces.

I just finished the season finally as it was a busy fall but I had to come here and discuss this amazing show.

I was a huge fan of Rogue One and was excited when I heard that this show wasn't using the volume (I think it's cool but I think Disney doubled down on it too much).

Episode 10 was some of my favorite Star Wars content I've EVER seen and after finishing the season without a doubt this is the best Disney+ Star Wars or Marvel show to date and I think is up there for me with Severance for my favorite shows of 2022!

I hope that Disney recognizes how successful this show was and can bring similar aspects to their other Disney+ properties.

The closes we got before this was Rouge One. So when this show was announced to star one of the main characters from Rouge One along with the same director, It seemed their was a possibility of a mature Star Wars. This shows accomplishes that. However, that is also it's problem. Now I am glad we got this and this is a great series. But if you really want to see Star Wars familiar tropes, well don't expect it here. It did even put me off a little at points. It's biggest problem is also it's biggest strength. It's is a slow series. I can't help but feels like this 12 episodes series could have reduced to 10. But where it makes up for that is the climax of each event. The reason for the slow build up was so that the climax of each story is more satisfying when it finally comes. But what really does not help is that their are just so many subplots with other characters. Some of which doesn't really affect anything. Some episodes have some many subplots that Andor seems barely in that episode. This issues kind of mean to me that Andor, despite being great, is a very one and done series. You watch it once and really enjoy it, but you don't really want to rewatch it. With also being a few weeks pasted it's finally episodes, I have to say that I really don't miss it too much. But I will be excited to see what Season 2 will bring. Expand

This is a grown-up version of Star Wars we've never seen before, and the quiet interludes and deep characterization development are just unexpected, but very welcome. Definitely far better than the Boba Fett and Obi Wan shows. Sadly only a few people watched it and Disney even fears they destroyed the franchise by driving fans into apathy. Not an unreasonable assumption by the way. Like the name suggest it is the backstory of Cassian Andor from Rouge One. If I have to describe it it is the start of the serious and united rebellion against the empire and escalation of the conflict by both sides where Cassian is drawn into mostly unwillingly. Also it is more the story of little or normal people who struggle under the Empire. It shows consequences on the character level and bigger scale. I like that they show also the price people pay for being a rebel leader. But I have also to war you too. The pacing is a bit slow but leads to good pay offs and some say it feels a bit off of Star Wars which I mostly disagree. It has no Jedi, big space battles or many established characters. It has however good characters, highlights and growth on the story and personal scale. Also a good heist and smart prison system. The characters won me over. Diego Luna as Cassian fully delivered. He is not the character from Rouge One (meant positive here) and makes / starts his journey to the man he will become. Also impressive were Andy Serkis, Forest Whitaker, Faye Marsay, Stellan Skarsgard and Cinta Kaz. The cast, writers and team delivers something great. The look and settings were great too. They nailed the gritty look, grim situations and increased the immersion. Overall this will be a show that does not reach the audience, success and praise it deserves. We will see if Star Wars survives as franchise which was unthinkable years ago. There is too much burned ground, bad decisions and ignorance at Disney. Expand

The writing interesting and coherent, the actors are skilled and take their roles seriously, and the directors demonstrate creativity and competence in the way scenes unfold. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Andor is the best thing that happened to Star Wars since Rogue One. Maybe the best thing, period.
The writing is absolutely phenomenal and is careful to respect the mythology of SW without falling into the common traps, such as good vs evil. It manages to be very realistic while not sacrificing the fantasy. No "Make Numenor Great Again" scene in this. Just a very universal message that gets across, no matter your cultural background. The Empire is both terrifying and pathetic, while the rebellion does not rise from pure heroism but from the failings of fascism.
Andor is as interesting as ever and meets a gallery of fascinating characters, all written with care. The dialogs are also great, with some pure moments of greatness. The final episode had me in tears at one point, so powerful was one particular speech. Oh and I can't not mention The Eye. Probably the most amazing thing I've seen in a SW product. For once the buildup did not lie. It was one of the most amazing events in the galaxy.

After they butchered and massacred the entire franchise (except The Mandalorian). Finally a good star wars show, with believable cast, acting and story. Its not prefect by any means, the show's lack of proper pacing is big problem. There are episodes in which nothing happens and are filler, but despite that it manages to achieve good world building. For the first time we see inner workings of the empire and find out that they are not entirely incompetent idiots as always portrayed. The visuals are great and well done, doesn't seem fake. There is tension in the show and we get to see how rebellions are born (not just pew pew lasers). I'll recommend this show with the hopes that Disney doesn't flush this down the toilet too. Expand

Expand

Andor is a thrilling spy and war series set in a crucial time period leading up to the devastating heroic sacrifices of Rogue One. Many disavow this series due to a lack of lightsaber battles, laser blaster chases and alien goofiness - that is a narrow interpretation of Star Wars, which is a richer universe. I think we have had enough of the disappointing Skywalkers for a bit. This series beautifully focuses on each significant character's inner conflicts and forging, instead of rushed phoned-in development. Indeed, the arc of Cassian Andor, played effectively by the ever-capable Diego Luna, is the central theme and focus of the series. It is sad to see the real-life impact on people living in the Empire, previous Star Wars treatments took a hands-off approach. The supporting cast of this series is magnificent. Of course, the maestro, Stellan Skarsgard, towers over all others with the depth, complexity and richness of his fluidic shadow puppeteer character. The ethereally beautiful Adria Arjona and Genevieve O’Reilly both play their parts well. Rebellions are born from a synchronous conclave of triggers, seemingly unconnected but when suddenly co-existing and simultaneously triggered, can render an existential threat to the most sophisticated autocratic dictatorship. This has been a repeated rinse cycle of history, and Andor brilliantly shows how certain spiders can create vast webs and trigger tremors across a galaxy. Sometimes goading the enemy into intolerable oppression is the necessary impetus to inspire the forces of good, despite the sacrifice of innocents. The set pieces and locations of this series are so meticulously done. The towering, glittering spires of Coruscant, all the way down to the shaded underbelly, provided my favourite location. Many Star Wars opt for plain interiors, but the rich tapestry of Mon Mothma’s quarters was a sight to behold. The soundtrack is equally immersive and well-composed. Ferrix serves as an accurate representation of the daily toil of common folks, eking out a living under the boot of the empire, a dry tinder box ready for the inevitable spark. Expand

And as long as you approach it that way, with patience, it becomes engrossing. The eventual climaxes are made all the better by the slow rising actions. I think maybe some people raised on social media and instant dopamine hits aren't even familiar with this style of storytelling. I do sympathize in the sense that, you meet Andor and start rooting for him to take action, but he's still hesitant. So there's a tension there. But that's also part of what makes it work.

The plot is steady and makes sense. The acting is mostly top notch. The cinematography, sets, overall design and special effects are all spot on. My only real complaint is that Disney releases episodes weekly. It's the obvious move from a business perspective. People will renew their monthly subscription to keep watching their hit show. I did. But for me, after a week goes by, I've lost some of the feel from the last episode. I would have been glorious to binge the whole thing non stop for the first watch.

Let's give credit where credit is due to the directors, Toby Haynes, Benjamin Caron and Susanna White. And Writers Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon and Stephen Schiff.

Built from the ground up by the creative minds behind Rogue One, (arguably the best new Star Wars film to date), Andor is a triumph the likes of which we have seldom seen in the franchise. Where it's predecessors in the Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan have failed, Andor succeeds by taking a thankfully different approach to the formula. One only needs to look at the creative team and aspects of the production to find the genius beneath the surface. Showrunners Tony Gilroy and Stephen Schiff (of the Bourne universe and FX's The Americans lauded fame), bring a welcome espionage color to the series. Gilroy, and House of Cards writing alum Beau Willimon collectively plot out the story with the hands of true craftsmen. Andor delights with a tight narrative with overarching plot-lines told in two twelve episode seasons. Plot and narrative are honed and focused in exquisitely well written characters that develop masterfully from episode to episode. A lived in, practical production of sets instead of lieu of the ever overused Volume setup provide a welcome reprieve from the franchises overuse of digital effects. The show seems tailored to an adult audience as well and dips its toes into themes not seen in a Star Wars property. All of the first seasons parts are woven together masterfully. This show will stand tall from the pack of its lesser peers for years to come. One can only hope that Disney will invest in the precedent Andor's style creates. Expand

The writing, the lines, the character depth of Andor -- they probably could have saved Rings of Power from doom and even do a better House of Dragons, I suppose, though HoD is quite good already. What I'm trying to say is: Disney, kick those **** writers and creators behind She-Hulk, Kenobi, Boba Fett, and Ms Marvel out, and give Andor's team new opportunities. There is some real talent involved here. Expand
