Cole is good — he never overdoes a florid role. And [Lucas] Black is even better — a fine child actor capable of conveying difficult emotions like shame and scorn. But the show itself is just Twin Peaks without conviction — lots of ominous music in the background, lots of toned-down horror-movie effects in the foreground.
