AJ and the Queen has promise from looking at the trailer. I’ve watched pretty much ever series of Drag Race and in all honestly any hype for this new show is quite undeserved. I can’t tell if RuPaul can act or not, and I’m sure the kid who plays AJ is talented in another else but damn this is a complete train wreck.

AJ is the most irritating character I’ve came across on Television, the sad thing is it’s the why the character is written more than anything - bratty and constantly displaying angst and attitude, it gets REAL tired after the first episode.

The plot is basic and predictable, in all honestly the relationship between AJ and RuPaul is completely unbelievable. Let’s hope Netflix cancels this after this season. I have no idea why shows like the OA get cancelled and the likes of AJ and the Queen get the green light

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The spoiler is RuPaul is not nearly good enough at acting to pull off even the limited requirements of his part in this poorly written, bungled attempt to cash in on his limited appeal as a social media star. I don't know why I even tried this out. Expand

Shocked at how bad this is. I'm a Rupaul fan so was excited to see this, but he's just not a good actor, that kid is terrible and their introduction is stupid. You would expect it to be zippy and funny, but it all feels forced and cheaply done.

Terrible and hard to watch because of the acting and a terrible plot with a terrible script. I love RuPaul deeply, but this is just sad

I am a huge fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race and was really excited to see the arrival of AJ and the Queen on Netflix. Unfortunately, my excitement didn’t last long, for a myriad of reasons. First, the acting was way over the top at some points and completely flat at others. I’m sure that Izzy G is a nice little kid and all but her acting was like fingernails on a chalkboard...painful. I found the acting of much of the rest of the cast pretty bad too, including RuPaul himself, which surprised me. I assumed that, with his years in the entertainment industry, he would be a fairly seasoned actor. Next, the storyline was just ridiculous! The writing team tried to cram way too much in and it just became too outrageous at times and left plot line gaps in other places. So much so that, what could have been quite funny just fell flat on its face. The only true enjoyment I got from this show was spotting and identifying the Queens from RPDR. Such a disappointment! Finished the season and I enjoyed it. The child actor is really over-bearing though and not in a good way (honestly I want to climb into the TV and give her a good clout). Could they have not found a better child actor than this one? If you can get past the child's terrible overacting, it's a rather sweet series with some wonderful life lessons baked into it. It's not going to win any awards but I don't need to watch award winning TV every time I switch the tellie on. Sometimes I just want to kick back and relax and not have to think too much about plot and this show serves that purpose perfectly. Expand

Hilarious and refreshing. I’ll admit the first episode almost stopped me from continuing but the cast found their chemistry and really shine.

People are disappointed just because its something different from drag race and that's why I love it. Drag race fans are the worse. The series are great, I had a really good time watching it.

I loved this show so much and I’m honestly don’t get all of the hate. The Caracters are so amazing, I mean yeah Aj can be a bit annoying some time but I think it doesn’t matter.

Full of heart, campy, funny, moving, good performances (even if Izzy G can do too much sometimes) bingeable in a day. The episodes went by quickly, I truely liked it!

I loved this show - it was fun, the characters drew me in and RuPaul is phenomenal and so fun to watch. Sure it is a bit over the top in places, a bit far-fetched, but it's heart is Drag!! Who doesn't love a bit of camp, tongue-in-cheek and over-the-top-ness?? I am rooting for a second season with more Drag Race veterans gracing the stage. Sometimes corny, sometimes non-sensical, sometimes plain dumb, but always consistent fun.

Plain bad. Terrible acting from everybody in the cast. Simple and boring story. Maybe it could work as a TV movie, but it was an awful idea to stretch it to ten hour-long episodes. You can see all twists coming a mile off. AJ is a totally annoying character that doesn't get better or more interesting throughout the season. Campiness factor is through the roof of course, so at least that's a plus. Overall I kinda enjoyed watching this for all wrong reasons, because "it's-so-bad-it's-good". But it was excruciating. The first few episodes are not superb, but they were good enough to make me keep watching, despite some terrible scenes (like AJ floating with a breastpad). It made me burst out laughing more than once thanks to the terrible, terrible decisions that were made. I genuinely lost any interest for the series after I watched it. I just skipped to the final scene in the last episode, and was I glad I did that. The ending is as terrible as episode 5 is. I don't want to go back and watch the other episodes, at all. Expand

We binge watched and enjoyed the series. I can understand those who felt that installments drew out the story too thin. The subplots could use more development but the series was worth the watch

Great show. I hope they renew for another season. Rupaul is always fun to watch and the little girl has a great presence.

There are moments that are absolutely transcendently funny. ... But the series is riddled with scripting snags, potentially by virtue of trying to balance camp and commentary in hour-long episodes. There are attempts at wordplay that just do not land, leaving viewers cringing. Meanwhile, Robert is charmingly unflappable, bordering on wry in his best moments, for much of the series. His introspective moments — in which he ponders aging, love, and identity — knit the series together.

The half-hour-per-episode version of this show might have ultimately been stronger, even though many episodes don’t feel overlong. Beyond those moments, there are so many freewheeling touches over the course of the season that keep the fun alive.
