Really fantastic again from the BBC natural history department. These shows are so fascinating to me as it directly links to my background. I have a degree in Zoology and am currently part of a bat conservation group. These shows are so vital for both demonstrating the wonder of nature and why it is so vital to preserve the natural world through conservation. I have a degree in Zoology and am currently part of a bat conservation group. These shows are so vital for both demonstrating the wonder of nature and why it is so vital to preserve the natural world through conservation. I try to have these conversations in everyday life but the mass appeal of a show like this is so important. It hits many of the same beats as many other Sir David Attenborough and BBC Natural History unit shows however, this is far from a bad thing as the BBC are the standard for shows like this. I'm extremely glad that a whole episode was dedicated to humans too. By showing both our sins and our successes I really really hope that people pressure corporations and make individual changes to try to undo the damage to our planet. Nature is so wonderful and shows like this reinforce my respect and appreciation of it. Major props to the BBC natural history unit for consitently putting out visually impressive, highly engaging and massively important and educative content just like this. Expand

The quality of the photography was so exquisite, and the narration so spare and intelligent, that it was still required viewing. And the perspective of this series was something new. It explores the great forces of nature that enable life on Earth.

It was stunning though, wasn't it? The flamingo migration scenes alone were a work of art; shown from above they looked like the whirl on top of a latte. Quite magnificent. Breathtaking also were the vampire finches that seemed to have conned boobies into believing that when they suck their blood they are doing them a favour.

The cinematography is as awesome in scale and majesty as anything that has gone before, capturing both vast panoramas of tropical atolls and the tiniest wrinkly detail of a giant tortoise’s backside. The theme of the series is clever and novel, each episode analysing one of the great forces of nature that have created “the only planet in the universe, so far as we know, where there is life” – the sun, weather, oceans and so on.
