    Whatever political statement Ayer intended to make with his Gulf War veteran turned human time bomb is swamped by the movie's obnoxious badass envy, and Bale's gloating display of American-psycho fireworks, the kind of vein-popping show-boating that might as well be performed in a mirror.

    It's not a very well-made movie, but Stella's many limitations will probably be a side issue among its target audience, irrelevant next to those repeating images of Angela being so rich and beautiful and black.
  2. Waters's far-from-phallocratic sexual democracy is not so much hilarious as goofy and more rousing than arousing.
  3. Even if actorliness sometimes invades the tired faux-doc form, Unscrewed is, in the end, a likable, wrinkly taint of a movie.

    Choreographer Corey Yuen's use of a fire hose is far more creative than anything in the stale kidnapper plot.
