  1. The look is mid-period Transformers. The dramatic tension non-existent. And the performances uniformly weak. This is top-dollar tedium.
  2. A witty premise and a muscular cast are cruelly betrayed by this flaccid Tinseltown satire that features Robert De Niro delivering one of the most wretchedly cartoonish performances of his career.
  3. Building a whole movie around leaden, titter-inducing chunks of ersatz anti-drama is madness.
  4. The entire film is like this. Random and unfocused. Bit of this. Bit of that. Lots of charm. See how you go. There are great lines hidden in the mulch, mostly delivered by Fellows.
  5. You really could not make any of this up.
  6. Insolia and Riondino, meanwhile, are quite perfectly cast. Their characters have soul chemistry and their scenes together are the film’s best.

Solid on research, weaker on analysis, this is an affectionate celebration that keeps the northern soul campfires burning nicely.
