  1. This is the kind of movie that isn't even worth renting when it comes out on video because, with the possible exception of Michael Lerner and Omar Epps dancing to show tunes, you've seen it all before.
  2. Unfortunately, much of the skill and craft evident during the first hour evaporate during the second, when mayhem and bloodshed supplant legitimate scares and intelligent writing.
  3. Aside from the likable performers, Forces of Nature's greatest strength is that it flouts several established conventions of the genre.
  4. Has the potential to be a truly memorable film, and, for more than three-quarters of its running time, it is poised to live up to that potential. But then there are the final twenty minutes.
  5. Unappealing for children and adults alike, The King and I will likely bring families together in their mutual boredom.
  6. Paced more like an action movie than a drama, and, when a pause finally occurs at the end credits, we realize that it hasn't been an altogether satisfying ride.
  7. It's a muddled, meandering affair without a thesis or a point to prove.
  8. Fox should be paying potential viewers not to walk out of this turkey. The plot has all the depth and originality of a video game without the fun of the interactivity.
  9. Formulated on an idiotic idea and develops a predictably lackluster motion picture from it.
  10. I have never been a fan of the original Carrie, but, despite the different slant offered by The Rage, there's not enough new material here for me to like the sequel any better.
  11. An interesting plot element or two and a stylish visual approach can't save James Foley's The Corruptor from coming across as a run-of-the-mill cop movie.
  12. Frequently funny and occasionally hilarious.
  13. No amount of youthful charisma can alter the fact that, in the light of "Dangerous Liaisons", Cruel Intentions is a feeble and dissatisfying shadow.
  14. It's a superior thriller made with the guts and gusto that too many recycled entries into the genre fail to exhibit.
  15. A tepid affair, distinguished by bland character development, uninspired and insipid dialogue, and a nonexistent plot.
  16. Would probably have been more enjoyable if Berkowitz was less irritating. As a character, his only redeeming quality is his self-deprecating humor.
  17. This is a film to be enjoyed on a psychological level for its keen understanding of the contradictory impulses that drive sexual and social intercourse.
  18. 8MM
The result, while not entirely devoid of entertainment value, doesn't work as a whole.
  19. Two agonizing hours of lifeless, mind-numbing hogwash.
  20. It fails to sustain its comic momentum or high energy level. The first half is fresh and funny, but it doesn't last.
  21. With its lack of car chases, fist fights, and over-the-top melodrama, the film has to rely on solid acting, an intelligent script, and capable directing.
  22. Like the candy from which it gets its name, Jawbreaker is fun at the start, but can turn into a chore to complete.
  23. As a date movie or for a solo night out, Blast from the Past offers more than standard romantic comedy fare.
  24. It's not a great film, but it succeeds in being both tender and cathartic.
  25. The movie is pretty much what you might expect from a big-screen adaptation of a once-popular '60s TV series: good-natured, appealing, and sophomoric.
  26. The result is sometimes enchanting, but, more often than not, it's frustrating, because the disparate elements of the plot never quite gel.
  27. While there's quite a bit more graphic bloodshed and brutality here than in any of the late screen icon's vehicles, Payback is a worthy '90s successor to his kind of movie.
  28. Despite being largely uninspired, the dialogue is peppered with enough profanity and salacious comments to keep the undiscriminating interested.
  29. Just because it's not boring, that doesn't mean it's worth plunking down the price of admission.
  30. The movie is consistently well-acted and features a gallery of characters so affable that it's difficult to actively dislike any of them, or, for that matter, the film as a whole.
