Although the time-bending-feature isn’t as game-defining as it seems (at least for now), Chrysalis is a great first look into the world of Life is Strange. Only time – and future episodes – will tell if the story is strong enough to make the game as a whole worthwhile. But for now, thanks to an intriguing mystery plot and clever dialogue fans of adventure games can’t go wrong.

Dying Light 2 is an ambitious sequel that puts a lot of emphasis on story and decisions. Paired with fun parkour mechanics and visceral combat, the game raises huge expectations in its opening chapters. However, it starts to get a little repetitive after a while. There is just not enough weapon variety and meaningful loot, and the story suffers from a lame villain and an overall unsatisfying ending. It's still a good game all things considered, but certainly not the masterpiece we all hoped it would be.

Outstanding visual design, a unique fantasy setting and intense first person combat are reason enough to pick up this exceptional action game. I only wished there was some kind of exploration and puzzle elements to it. And if the short play time of about 5 hours turns you off, think of the fair price - it is a pretty good deal after all.

After starting the game, we soon felt disillusioned. The structure of the missions nevery changes and there isn‘t really a story to the campaign. The are Billions shines the most when playing outside the boundaries of the campaign, especially when playing on high difficulty.

Left 4 Dead top down! Alien Swarm is fast-paced, alien-filled fun that demands cooperative gaming and delivers cleverly directed missions that stay challenging from beginning to the end. The upgrade systems serves as a motivator and the match making is quite good. Physics, sound and lighting convey a spooky atmosphere. Although there is only one campaign at release, Alien Swarm delivers more fun than most full-price games.

A deeply relaxing city-building game with a beautiful medieval atmosphere but limited complexity – ideal for unwinding.

Despite the small problems, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD gives you a good opportunity to catch up on the 3DS classic on the Switch. If you've already played the original, you shouldn't expect any changes from the remaster other than a graphic polish and adjusted controls.

Humankind is one elegant strategy opus that successfully balances mechanics from Endless Legend and Civilization 6, but does not have the same level of quality and polish like the Firaxis original. Some good ideas, a beautiful map and a nice game flow more than make up for its shortcomings, some of which might be ironed out by future updates or expansions. As of now, Humankind is a good game and it will satisfy your 4X cravings, but there is no denying that is has not reached its full potential yet.

Even tough Islets was developed by only one person, it’s definitely a well-rounded and surprisingly extensive Metroidvania. The developer clearly has a lot of love for the genre and implemented varied and challenging boss fights, a well thought level design and interesting skills. Some minor bugs, for example too far away teleport points and rough animations show that this game is made by only one person. But that shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying this very hard, but rewarding game. Definitely not the sweet, carefree island adventure it looks like on first sight.

Fallen God is a good and lenghty standalone expansion to Spellforce 3, but it does not have the same impact as Soul Harvest did. The new troll faction is somewhat of a mixed bag, the dialogues drag out too much and the rts elements can feel a little undercooked. But Spellforce has always been more than the sum of its parts and if you loved the two previous games in the series, there is a good chance you will love Fallen God as well.

Blasphemous combines extreme difficulty, some religious elements and a beautiful pixel-art-world in a truly fascinating way. Recommended for everybody who does not only want to be entertained, but also challenged.

Neocore hasn't changed the formula much since the surprise hit that was the first The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing and why should they? Part 2 offers loads of low-priced fun for the hack 'n' slash fan who has (played) everything else. It doesn't offer the addicting loot runs of Torchlight 2 or Diablo 3, but Van Helsing 2 is a well crafted monster slaying experience in its own right with some fun ideas like the tower defense bits and the chimera pet.

Hell is Us impresses with its symbolism, its dark world, and its free exploration, but it still has a lot of room for improvement in terms of optimization and enemy design.

Child of Light doesn’t try to be the most challenging game ever, and it doesn’t have to. Instead, it wittingly places its emphasis on accessibility and the conveyance of a strong atmosphere. Looked at in that light, it does very little wrong.

A smart blend of features that successfully captures the tension and style of the incredible TV show. But once you finished a few runs, it becomes pretty evident that the game lacks the necessary depth, speed and variety for a strategy game that aims to be highly replayable. It's not a bad game, for sure, but not a great one either.

A delightful open-world playground with terrific graphics, lots of activities and brilliant hacking gameplay. Poor plotting and the lack of a more courageous treatment of its up-to-date scenario keeps Watch Dogs from playing in the same league as Rockstar's masterpieces.

For me, the new gameplay approach was interesting because I am also a big Diablo fan and was curious how the developers implement this in the Darksiders universe. The answer is: not very thoughtful.

Titled as an action-adventure, this game is not typical. The best way to describe it, is like a modern art picture. You’ll find bizarre and beautiful elements and it his hard to understand, what the game is telling the player. The plot takes place between life and death and the melancholical spoken dialogues are good performed. So if u like to play around with uncommon gameplay, the void is a nice try.

Lara is back to her roots. The focus on adventure instead of endless fighting is fantastic and the gameplay has been evolved for the better again. On top of that Tomb Raider never did look so good.

2D retro games by small indie studios are a dime a dozen nowadays and compared to others, Olija looks pretty outdated. However, its focus on fluid action, combat and atmosphere are redeeming qualities that give the game a straightforward direction that many modern games are missing.

Even though it lacks fresh ideas, Spellforce: Conquest of Eo offers hours of fun with its rock-solid gameplay loop. The turn-based combat is accessible and fast, there are plenty of spells to research and things to do in every round. Just don't expect a game that you will keep revisiting for a very long time.

While the Switch version lacks some visual fidelity, the gameplay is every bit as fun as on the other platforms. Steamworld Build is a short, highly approachable city builder with polished mechanics and charming ideas. It might be too simple for expert players, but offers a great entry point for newcomers.

Revelations hits a lot of right chords with long-time Resident Evil fans who pine for a return to the good old survival horror days of the franchise. But technical flaws, clumsy controls and too much action in the second half of its campaign ultimately prevent it being an excellent horror game, instead rendering it simply a fun ride with lots of minor issues.

A great adventure game in the style of the Indiana-Jones-action-movies. The story about nazis searching for the secret kingdom of shambala and it's huge powers is thrilling and directed with lots of great cutscenes and detailed graphics. The game contains lot's of dialogues, some of them are very long though. The Puzzles are mostly fair but to easy to solve for genre veterans. If you liked the Secret Files-series, you'll have to play Lost Horizon!

Tindalos Interactive did a good job of injecting atmosphere and setting from the fine tabletop-game into a great visual and entertaining RTS on PC. There are tons of options to develop your Battlefleet in the Warhammer 40k-Gothic-Universe. The campaign’s plot is a nice adaption of the 12th Black Crusade and the battles are based on tactical decisions. Unfortunately there is lack of mission-variety and often the time-limits during the missions can be frustrating. Units/Factions are not well balanced so far, so you often have no idea, why you win or lose a battle. Skirmish and Multiplayer is quite entertaining for a while, but it offers not that many options and only the same scenarios as in the campaign mode.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is a very good detective game. It gives us the illusion of being a true master detective. The game world is a great alternative to London. Sadly, there’s one serious flaw: Chapter One is too easy with barely any real puzzles around. However, it’s still a must-have for any fan of Sherlock Holmes, if only to see how the young Holmes became the Detective we all love.

At the end of the test, I had the impression that Firaxis wanted to quickly publish something to stand up to Microsoft's Gears Tactics. In my opinion, it didn't really work.
