Gears is sawing in the right direction now. Gears of War 4 disappointed a bit, the new Gears studio was under a lot of (time) pressure. This time The Coalition surprised positively. Gears 5 offers more variety than previous Gears and, thanks to Jack, gives real strategic skills for the first time. I also like the longer, atmospheric story sections. Fortunately, the storyline with Kait offers suspense, as the story about the Hammer of Dawn doesn't exactly sparkle with ingenuity. Thanks to The Coalition for the three-player co-op mode as well as for the escape mode. All in all, Gears 5 convinced me.

An enchanting adventure that lacks nothing except a little more playtime.

A fast and aesthetic action-adventure, that easily overcomes its monotony and lack of challenge due to responsive controls, two heart-warming heroes and the sheer beauty of its visual design.

Wargroove knows how to entice the player with a cute pixel art style, loveable characters, well written dialogue and a strategy experience that will satisfy newcomers as well as seasoned veterans. The story is simple, yet enjoyable ,and the editor - in which you can design you’re own campaigns –, whilst extensive, could be more enhanced on a technical level. A charming Indie-Strategy-Game that leaves room for improvement, but still manages to be a lot of fun.

An innovative genre mix that excels in both the rice-simulation as well as in the fast-paced 2D combat. The real time aspect can be a little pressuring, but the charming presentation and a surprisingly high level of complexity make Sakuna a game worth your time.

Although Prey never rises to the first Bioshock for me anyway, but it does not have to be: If you are looking for a game in the style of a System Shock and do not expect an exceptionally good shooter, you'll get an exciting, comprehensive and challenging Sci- Survival adventure.

With reviewing remakes, I always tend to find myself in a bit of a bind: should I judge the original game by today’s standards or not? Maybe I should only look at the quality of the remake/remaster itself? But because Resident Evil HD Remaster is - in this version – a first time ever release on PC, and the original game is banned in Germany, I can wholeheartedly recommend the game to everyone who hasn’t been able to play the first Resident Evil yet. Personally, I really wouldn’t want to miss all the technical improvements. Though I do wish, they had also improved upon loading times and the inventory-system.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a fantastic role-playing game with action-packed battles, lots of exploration potential, great characters, an incredible amount of lore and epic stories.

4A Games created an excellent, apocalyptic setting with Metro: Last Light. You’ll be confronted with scary monsters and many details in the game offer a great atmosphere. Though, interaction with characters and the world itself in the game is limited. The AI doesn’t perform very cleverly, even on hardcore-mode.

Players who liked the Kingdom series of games and Slay the Spire will also find a lot to love in Ratropolis. It mixes new ideas with satisfying gameplay and thus creates something very unique. After a while, progression tends to get a bit samey, but until then, Ratropolis is a lot of fun.

HD remakes of two of the best role-playing games of the PlayStation era, created with great care, passion and respect. Clearly the best way to catch up on the memorable originals and get back at Luca Blight. It's just a shame that you have to buy the two games as a package and can't buy them individually digitally.

Short, charming, sweet as pie and overall, just an absolutely wholesome experience: A Short Hike may not bring with it big set pieces, a complex story or a whole lot of gameplay systems. But it has more heart than a lot of other games combined, which makes it something truly special.

All in all, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has sadly been a frustrating experience for me. World design and presentation, with John William's classic score and the beautiful graphics, are top notch, but the gameplay and quest design got redundant only after few hours.

The first chapter is a charming adventure game, featuring a short, but interesting story, great voice actors and a beautiful soundtrack. The puzzles however are too simplistic and most of the side characters get brushed aside too soon. It's still fun, for sure, and some of these issues might be fixed in the second chapter, but so far Broken Age is not the classic we hoped for.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is a really smart horror game in disguise. The visual novel plays with your expectations, your knowledge of video games and the standards of the genre. Every player who loves well written stories should give the game a chance, although it starts really slow and you have to click through a lot of very boring dialogue before it really begins. But don’t have any expectations for the additional content in the Plus! version. The prequel chapters are pretty dull and add nothing interesting to the main story.

A delightfully weird and extremely well-written RPG that strikes all the same chords as Planescape: Torment. But beware: InXile still has some bugs to squash and patches to release before the game truly lives up to its masterful namesake.

Quake Remastered does the cult classic justice by offering the player not only the base game and all it's add-ons but also two bonus episodes, one of which is brand new. Coupled with 4K graphics, a slick menu and some nice extras it's a great package for fans. You can't deny it's age though - this is still a 25-year-old shooter.

The bottom line is that Assassin's Creed Shadows is not a bad game, but unfortunately it is not really outstanding either. I had more fun with Naoe and Yaskue in feudal Japan than I had with Eivor in England back then. But it doesn't come close to Kassandra's adventure in Greece, for example. The design weaknesses mentioned are too obvious for that. Here, the game unfortunately wastes a lot of potential. And yet I will keep my adventure in Shadows in good memory.

A well-made shooter that successfully reinvents the Wolfenstein formula with bloody action, lots of atmosphere and surprisingly solid stealth mechanics. The story features interesting characters and a high quality presentation, but the game becomes too erratic and ridiculous towards the end.

Life is Strange: True Colors is the newest addition to the Life is Strange universe. This time, the special power of main character Alex is her talent to sense the emotions of others. The presentation is quite charming, the characters are well-written and the story is exciting, if not predictable. Unfortunately, the gameplay is quite boring and we encountered some technical problems.

GTA 5 is still a masterpiece. The open world is fantastic, the presentation is brilliant, the characters are well-written and the varied gameplay is still a lot of fun. Thanks to the technical improvements of the remastered version for PS5 the game still feels fresh and the gameplay is even better because of up to 60 fps in the two performance modes.
