  1. An effective and well-wrought drama, with enough cinematic flair and energy to paper over some of its more obvious faults.
  2. Layering such unnatural proceedings into the family-drama format only intensifies both story angles when you do it right. And Cassidy has, with strong casting, solid structure and a fine feel for what's most frightening.
  3. Congenial.
  4. The pilot serves up flashy ooh-ah instead of anything tangible to wrap our arms around.
  5. Could... become a very pleasant surprise.

  6. Anyone who wants to take a walk on the wild side and lose an appetite in the process, your show has arrived.
  7. If you expect the worst, your expectations will probably be met.
  8. The first hour manages to feel both mechanical and manipulative, without feeling truly exciting or even grounded anyplace.
  9. Too many moments feel false, overblown or contrived.
  10. It's as if we've all passed this way (many times) before and could write the dialogue, act the scenes, predict the outcome all in our sleep.
  11. It's a romp and a half.
  12. It's one tasty piece of lunacy.

This handsome, moodily shot movie liberates the play from the confines of the tiny apartment with almost too many scenes on the bus, in a bar and, most chilling, in the back room of a beauty shop where the neighborhood abortionist boils forceps.
  13. This is a hit, and has been carefully crafted by Disney to become one. The formula may be as old as pop culture itself, but (again) who really cares?
  14. The Tenth Inning is dutiful, sober and thoughtful. No spitballs are thrown. No banned substances have been added to bloat it up to obscene, grotesque proportions. What is missing in at least tonight's installment is surprise, or the pleasant shock of learning something brand new or unexpected.
