Outlast is an horror game with the great virtue of creating fear and terror with simple but highly effective weapons like dark, scary sounds, desperate escape from mad psychos and perfect locations for the purpose, but lacks a little bit in gameplay variety.

A very interesting piece of software that really has something to say. But beware: if you judge it only in terms of gameplay and pure fun, it can result in pretty boring time.

The new first-person shooter from City Interactive is not that bad for fans of old-style FPS, but the linear levels, the limited variety of the locations and the average enemy intelligence are not flaws to be underestimated.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate doesn't add too much to the original game, which is now one year old. It's a good edition for a very good fighting game, but it comes maybe a little bit late to the party.

Steamworld Dig is a great game, a tiny masterpiece, with a sublime gameplay which works perfectly, thanks to an intuitive and extremely fluid control system. One of the best for the eShop.

Rayman Legends on PSVita is a solid conversion, marginally plagued by some minor problems. But still: if you're looking for an enjoyable platforming experience on the go, look no further.

Once again Rovio manages to tweak the original formula of Angry Birds in order to assure a lot of fun to its fans. We are aware that Phantom Menace is not A New Hope, but Angry Birds Star Wars II can make enjoyable the use of Jar Jar Binks, and that's a win.

A breath of fresh air for fans of Kingdom Hearts and a great way to revisit the past of the series while waiting for its future to unfold.

Another great set of compelling levels and two new adorable skin make Pac-Man CE DX+ a must have for every Pac-Man addict. And, also, for anyone who simply is looking for something simple, classy and deep. Hands down one of the best puzzle game of this generation.

Armored Core: Verdict Day is a deep and rich experience, with some technical flaws, but a wonderful dark atmosphere. Online mode is full of potential and the single-player campaign will last long enough to catch user's attention. If you love mechs, you can't go wrong with it.

With its double football/JRPG nature, Inazuma Eleven 3 is another great title in the franchise, even with its story surplus and a non-cutting edge graphics.

If you like to explore a randomly generated world, mine and harvest everything your eyes can see and build any type of weird structures, Terraria is the right game for you. If you loved the PC version you will love the iOS version too, despite the lack of multiplayer and the size of the map.

It might try to represent a simpler alternative to the other MOBA games, and it succeeds to a certain degree, but Guardians of Middle-Earth lacks the quality and the depth that make this genre so interesting and addictive.

The final chapter of the saga is also the best so far. Chair managed to transform Infinity Blade in a huge adventure, maintaining combat system fun and easy to master. Nevertheless it's time for the best good looking game on iOS to evolve its formula and improve the gameplay.

While lacking a true single player component (at least for the moment) and with some bugs and glitches still to patch, the new war simulator by Bohemia Interactive will capture hardcore gamers with a massive, vast, complex and layered new episode.

Call of Duty Strike Team is the final demonstration touch games grew up: combining FPS and simple touch strategy, it deserves to be installed on your iPad.

All the highs and lows of the series are still there, for a final chapter that doesn't disappoint and introduces a couple of very nice new ideas. Puzzles are strong, narration is a bit cheesy, but generally speaking Cognition is worth playing.

Electronic Arts keeps polishing the best soccer game on the planet: FIFA 14 is a predictable but outstanding achievement. Its matches show a thoughtful pace and the new ball protection mechanics fit perfectly in the formula. Simply put it's a must buy for every soccer enthusiast out there.

The new Fox Engine gives birth to a deep and engrossing soccer game. This is the best PES ever, but it still suffers from the comparison to its arch-rival FIFA in terms of licensing and options.

Quite simplistic and a little bit boring, Foul Play is a second-choice in comparison to Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim VS The World. Its nice setting and peculiar visual style may be enough reasons for giving it a try, yet do not expect an outstanding brawler. Also, not supporting four players is a very bad choice.

Despite some limitations in party managing and world interactions, Cyanide has made ​​its best title ever. Aarklash Legacy is a good example of tactical GdR with an isometric view and many hardcore gamers will love it.

The quality of GTA V puts to shame 99% of triple A productions. The story is beautiful, the graphics are unbelievable for the old hardware they run on, and most importantly the gameplay is fun and smooth. GTA V is not afraid to show it is a videogame, and has the guts to trade some of its realism for the sake of fun.

Mirror Moon EP is more about art than about gameplay and it's meant for people who can appreciate the pleasure of exploration, discovery and bizarre graphic style. While interesting and surprising, the game shows many highs and lows, and could become easily boring if you're don't bite into its strange nature.

Short, disgraceful and terribly unfun: it's hard to recommend this game (even to diehard TMNT fans). No, definitely not Cowabunga at all.

Castle of Illusion is a surprisingly good platform game, with a distinctive and dreamy art direction. It's a pity that the frame rate affects so badly the gameplay and that it run off of levels in a matter of hours.

Puppeteer is an extreme accessible, brilliant and ironic platform that would seem most next-gen of the next-gen, or beautiful, if you prefer. A masterpiece of rare and exceptional beauty, suitable for young and old gamers. It does not matter how easy or difficult is: the last swan's song of the PlayStation 3 entitled Puppeteer, and does not cost too much either.

Another great and extremely deep strategy game from Paradox, Europa Universalis IV is better than the previous installment in every single aspect and it's got enough content to go on playing for years.

There's some fun in multiplayer, but Pokémon Rumble U is a pretty limited game, with not much depth and a lot of button mashing. Even worse: we still don't have the NFC toys in Italy.

The fourth chapter represents an evolution for the Etrian Odyssey saga, being able to be more accessible and fun right away. Unfortunately, the difficulty of the game is not balanced from beginning to end, with a challenging first part of the adventure and a second too easy.

There's just one reason to avoid Dragon's Crown: you hate old-school side scrolling beat'em ups. If you don't, you just can't miss Vanillaware masterpiece, a game built on a solid and deep combat system and George Kamitani's beautiful graphics.

Focusing on the urge to survive into the emptiness of darkness, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs truly understands the meaning of fear. Even if it lasts only four hours, you'll get everything you want and need, from a rich, tasteful and clever horror story.

Square Enix did it. They took a mediocre game called Final Fantasy XIV and turned in a fun MMO with a stunning character's progression system that cuddle the player far beyond the level cap. Eorzea is a vibrant and vivid world in which is way too easy get lost, and for this we have to thanks Yoshida and his team, that gave to use a game that is both modern and linked to a glorious past.

A simple, but quite hard 2D game, deep as the cave the player has to explore. Spelunky is not for every one, and can be frustrating at times, but has a lot to give and rewards the player for his efforts.

Killzone: Mercenary is the first FPS which is worth playing on a portable console. PS Vita is finally worth using now that you can take full advantage of its dual analogue sticks and powerful graphics.

Diablo III is the best journey Blizzard has ever made in the world of console gaming. The control system is perfect and the flavour of slaying monsters on your sofa, with a joypad in your hands, is sometimes better than the one you feel with your PC. Graphics, though, remain better on a good computer.

Even if the quest for user-friendliness comes with a measure of dumbing down, Total War: Rome II still has enough depth to appeal to long-standing fans of the series. Stellar graphics and well-honed mechanics makes for a great game.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition has not aged at all in the last three years and the graphic update is solid and well made, despite a little disappointment for textures and animated cut-scenes.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist combines elements of the last episode with the series' original features, and a tough as nails Sam Fisher. The end result is not perfect, but good enough for longtime fans.

The "usual" Suda51 game: you can love it or hate it. This time, though, there's a lot of substance under the great style and the not-so-great tech. Killer is Dead is a solid and rewarding action game, especially if you dare trying the harder difficulty levels.

DuckTales Remastered has the courage to be difficult, and proves itself both fun and respectful to the original. It's a very good remake and a sight to behold. Its difficulty is not for the faint of heart, but it will highly reward those who have the perseverance to keep playing. We couldn't ask much more from a remake.

There is nothing of Ultima's original spirit in this Quest For Avatar. If you can survive to a (light) pay-to-win economy, network problems and technical issues, you may find a good RPG which can be played alone or with your friends.

After all the problems, changes and delays in recent years, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified could have been much (much) worse. The result however is decent for the most parts mostly thanks to the intriguing and tactical combat system.

An half-developed remake, Flashback manages to conjure memories of the original 1992 game wasting them with lots of shortcomings and not-well-implemented ideas.

Payday 2 is currently the best co-op experience of the year and a great sequel too. However, if you plan to play it just offline, you'll be disappointed.

A great platformer, with beautiful graphics, excellent music and an inspired level design. The Murfy levels use all the potential of the GamePad, unraveling new and exciting perspectives in the genre. If you own a Wii U, this one's a no-brainer.

Deep, rewarding, frantic and truly unique: The Wonderful 101 is nothing but an instant classic, something so pure and fun that represents the joy of playing videogames. You gotta be thankful to Platinum Games and Nintendo for this one, Kamiya surely did it again!

A great co-op platform game that requires some strong platforming skill but is largely based on terrific puzzles. Artistic direction is great and challenge is very high (especially if you're aiming at 100% completion). There are some minor issues, mechanics are pretty simple and there basically is no single player, but it's still a great game.

Larian Studios did a really good job in making a RTS-tactical-managerial hybrid full of things to do, well balanced, technically up to raids and even action oriented, especially in online battles.

Mikey Hooks is a really good game, based on a solid gameplay and a really precise control system. It could instead have been a great game, but it's too short and easy, and even if the Race Mode adds some fun, it's simply not enough to make the final step to greatness.

Another great DLC, with three interesting missions, two new locations with a lot of stuff to do, an interesting storyline with deep connections to the original game and also a new, almost survival horror, general feel. If you're a fan of Dishonored, you cannot miss it.

Saints Row IV doesn't excel in terms of gameplay, but it hits a home run in terms of fun and laughter. The plot is both absurd and beautiful and the activities are so varied that one can easily forgive its faults. If you want a sandbox and you don't take yourself too seriously, Saints Row IV is a game you don't want to miss.

A splendid port for one of the best tower defense titles of all time. If you already have played the game in its previous incarnations, though, be aware: apart from the trophy list and the unnecessary touch controls, there's nothing really new here.

A very good first episode, with great atmosphere and a very nice and “realistic” approach to puzzle solving. It's not a triple A title, but it's got a very nice visual stile, some great music and a lovable “old school movies” feel.

Futuridium EP is an extremely challenging and very rewarding shoot'em up, or an addictive space jukebox, if you will. The risk is to hurl the iPad to the ground: play with it moderately.

Lums is a fine physics-based puzzle that brings some light in a crowded genre. It's derivative for sure, but nevertheless it's funny to approach the "physics based puzzle game" in a new light. It's short, though: the 48 levels can last for just three hours, if you don't want to catch all the stars.

A lovely fairy tale, told using the very strengths of gameplay and interaction. It's got some small issues and if you're looking for a complex and long action adventure it's not for you, but it's a very strong experience that touches themes you rarely see in videogames.

Tales of Xillia is an engaging, enjoyable and lengthy game. Though the story may seem like too traditional, it strays away from stereotypes as the narrative progresses, and leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. Unbalanced difficulty and other issues concerning the combat system cast a shadow on the game, reducing its value.

To beat Teleglitch: Die More Edition you need a lot of patience and resilience, this game can be hard and cruel sometimes. Behind the lo-fi presentation, there's a wonderful shoot'em up, with a rogue like soul and a touch of horror. You'll get scared a lot. And you're gonna love it.

This remake operation by Interceptor and Apogee contains many flaws that undermine its overall success; autosaves are too infrequent, frustrating platform sections, as well as a game formula that is so naive and "harmless" (splatter included) that will hardly find proselytes out of the retrogamers circle.

Dota 2 is an excellent game, complex and filled with surprises and rewards for all those patient enough to endure its very steep learning curve.

Attack of the Friday Monsters is more of an interactive story than a videogame. It's short on game mechanics, but the rest is very enjoyable: the tone, the passion and that strange feeling of nostalgic magic that Ayabe and his team could infuse in this delicate story.

Hardcore gaming in its purest form, Cloudberry Kingdom is an homage to the best platform games out there. A good game that needs just a little bit of personality to stand out among the several others platform games available today.

Droidscape: Basilica is indeed a quite unique puzzle game, with a deep background story. But it also has various flaws, specially the not always accurate control system.

One of the best ways to offer a free to play game, without harassing the gamer asking money and money to be competitive. The RPG elements are interesting and offer a new way to live the Tekken experience, but maybe series' old fans are not inclined to accept them.

Star Wars Pinball for Wii U is a flipper masterpiece, packed with content to keep you pounding away for hours. If you have already purchased the game on other platforms, you may re-evaluate the purchase just for the multiplayer options and the more generous dimensions of the GamePad.

Prince of Persia The Shadow and the Flame is a poor platform game, with an inaccurate control system that has nothing to do with the original game.

Turn-based tactical combat, skills, spells and upgrades, thick and well-written dialogues, great cyberpunk atmosphere, good longevity and a powerful level and campaign editor.

Don't worry about the free to play model business or the lack of night levels: Plants Versus Zombies 2 is exactly the game you were looking for. New plants and Plant Food add a new level of strategy, as well as the peculiar gameplay of the different worlds. Every single fan of the original game should give a chance to this sequel.

Pacific Rim is the usual useless and badly developed tie-in; everything, from the graphics to the combat-system, leaves much to be desired and the pushy in game purchases are the classic final blow on a game that no one frankly was missing.

Pikmin 3 is the best game in the series, but that's not enough to define it as a masterpiece. Game mechanics are effective and funny, thank to a flawless control system, but the absence of a true online mode and the lack of real new features don't help to differentiate the game from its predecessors. Anyway, this is a game that every Wii U owner should at least try, and the proof that Nintendo still is the master in terms of game design.

Aqua Moto Racing 3D suffers from a number of technical problems. Much better to choose to the iOS version, rather than spending ten Euros in a racing game floundering in the waves.

The lack of polishing is the main problem of a game with a lot of wasted potential. Clunky controls, bad A.I. and tiny production values condemn Dark to mediocrity. Only for hardcore stealth fans with a lot of patience.

Urban Trials Freestyle is no Trials by RedLynx, but it's a competent clone: fun and challenging game perfectly, suitable for Nintendo 3DS, with easy-to-pickup-and-play nature and a fair amount of challenges.

A derivative and mediocre game with not a single fresh idea and just the budget pricing and a decent co-op mode to make it mildly interesting, if you're into that kind of multiplayer experience.

Deus Ex: The Fall is a great example of how today, with a few euros, you can have a "console" title even on a smartphone and a tablet. There are some flaws (touch controls are not perfect, gunplay is inaccurate, enemy AI is very weak), but there are many values too as great graphics, exploration, plot and deep stealth sections.

Engaging and entertaining, Rogue Legacy is a solid remix of classic arcade cliches bend together with a pair of original twists. The result is a solid action game which will keep you playing for a long time.

Beside the “gore-galore” there's a solid beat'em up, charming and fun. If you're a Mortal Kombat addicted you'll get tons of fun, but beware: searching for online players can be painful and the net-code is ugly. Stick to the traditional head to head and everything will be fine.

Mario & Luigi Bros. Dream Team is a true masterpiece, the best of the four role-playing games developed by AlphaDream for DS. It's the most psychedelic, chock full of things to do and boss fight at every turn, it's filled with dry humor and the standard gameplay is originally supplemented with a 2D world.

Nothing really new under the sun of TrackMania 2, just an artificial Stadium of arcade precision and a natural Valley of dirty driving. After Canyon, two extra physical environments and different driving styles to race offline and online.

Step by step, Duels of the Planeswalkers becomes better and better with every edition. The addition of a bit more of deck-building in this 2014 release is a solid step towards a full-fledged Magic: The Gathering experience.

Another lovely platform/puzzle game, with an adorable visual style, an engaging soundtrack, tight controls and some very good level design. It has its charm, but there's too much “more of the same” and if you're not into Time Attack it's pretty short. Fans of the Mighty series should love it, though.

As an updated remake, Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded is a good example of improved graphics and the new game section is not bad. This revival operation works less well considering the modest longevity, low difficulty of the puzzles and scaffolding narrative that, despite all the good will, has no longer the sexy and funny appeal of 26 years ago.

Project X Zone is a repetitive and boring tactical RPG that survives to itself only thanks to the charisma of its historic characters, who come from some of the most famous video games sagas created by SEGA, Namco Bandai and Capcom.

Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger offers both action and tower defense, and the result is a deep but immediate game. It also has a very good art direction that is rare to find in a budget game.

Do not miss this collection of amazing examples of "auteur games": the world would surely be a better place if everybody had the chance to play these games and live these breathtaking experiences.

A huge expansion, which manages to give the fans countless hours of new strategic fun, without breaking the core balance of the game. Even though it's time for a new installment, Brave New World will be very hard to pass for all the Civ fanatics out there.

Capsized is a linear, hectic, tight action game with a strong eighties/nineties vibe and a very unique visual style. If you're not looking for the depth and the exploration of a "Metroidvania", you will not be disappointed.

The console version of Le Tour De France 2013 tries to simplify gameplay too much by cutting away almost any managerial aspect and has some annoying technical issues, especially in terms of frame rate. It's a mediocre game, plain and simple.

400 Days doesn't innovate with incredible new ideas, but it's a nice "bridge" between the first and second season of The Walking Dead. Narration is effective as usual, with strong emotions and an interesting twist in the non linear timeline of events. If you loved Season 1, you will probably love this DLC.

Thanks to the charming personality and the insane amount of humour, you'll really, really want to love Deadpool. Yet this will feel like a huge wasted opportunity, with the greatness of the main character crushed underneath the inconsistency of the gameplay and the low-budget feel.

With an excellent combat system and a good work on the source material, Neverwinter could be one of the best MMORPGs out there. Too bad the end-game and the group mechanics tend to be so repetitive.

This is how DLCs or sequels should be made: by avoiding the "more of the same" formula. No sameness here, it's a great addition, with a lot of humour and unique gameplay. One of the greatest DLCs in recent years.

This is a big DLC. It's so big that, graphics aside, it could very well be a standalone platform game. The price isn't cheap, but there is a lot of high quality content. Nintendo's level design is inspired and there's a lot to chew for hardcore platform fans.

Milestone brings back the real MotoGP experience, unfortunately with many technical issues (graphics engine limps and suffers in the most hectic situations). Once again, it's a starting point to create, someday, the perfect hybrid between MotoGP 08 and GP500, but it's not the game that many fans have been waiting from Milestone.

Game & Wario is the worst WarioWare game ever. A predictable and sometimes irksome experience that found itself overthrown by the freshness and style of Nintendoland. Only a couple of minigames prove to be funny to some extent.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is inevitably affected by the nine years passed since the first episode and its expansion, but those who really appreciate this kind of FPS can count on one of the best old-school franchises along with Serious Sam.

To get in touch with Element4l you have to open your mind, thinking outside the rules of the platform genre. If you do so, you'll find a place to heal your eyes and your soul, but beware: this paradise can be cruel sometimes. If you dare to take the challenge, you'll be truly rewarded.

An excellent RTS with great online challenges, co-op, war scenarios and a long-lived and extremely varied single campaign. Maybe Relic didn't insert many changes from the first episode, but the game structure works perfectly and strategic depth, both in single as in online challenges, will not disappoint fans of the genre.
