Honestly, the replay value can be forgiven; Disney Fish Hooks succeeds in just about everything it set out to do. It provides a quality product that extends the Disney name, it's faithful to the show, and it's completely free.

In spite of these issues, my biggest problem with the game is that there isn't more of it. I'm having a blast playing Madcoaster, and I keep going back to try and get just a bit further. It's a ton of fun, and the rollercoaster tie-in (while making zero sense) is awesome. Please give us more Madcoaster, Chillingo! Post haste!

It’s amazing how much of a difference knowing how to play properly can make. After my initial attempt I was ready to write A Planet of Mine off as a frustrating mess. Now that I’ve finally gotten the hang of it (no thanks to the tutorial) I actually kind of love it. If you like your spacefaring empire expansion simulations cute and (relatively) accessible, it’s absolutely worth checking out. Maybe even a purchase.

Minor difficulties and annoyances aside, The Drop Out is a serious contender for best physics puzzler on the iPhone. It's enjoyable, challenging, and most of all, fun.

Despite its sometimes-slow battles (which honestly do speed up a bit once you gain a few levels and learn how to use your skills efficiently), Attack the Light is a solid, budget-priced RPG that gets by on its own merits regardless of how much you know about Steven Universe.

Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores dishes up tons of behemoth-shooting action. It’s an easy game to enjoy.

Even with its room for improvement, Snowball! is a frosty treat for fans of pinball and pixel art. For those who don’t want to venture out into the cold, Snowball! will evoke the spirit of winter without the seasonal side-effects.

If you've utterly had it with endless runners, Team Awesome might not help you change your mind. You're still essentially running on a single path and sticking it to bad guys and objects. But if you just want to play a game that does something interesting and fun with the genre, go ahead and pull on your tights.

If you’ve had a tough day, and the soup on the stove still has a while to go, then give Anomaly Agent a shot – and lose yourself in a simpler world. For a little while, at least.

Feeling like a premium experience at a free-to-play price, Rogue Wizards is an excellent conversion of a PC based roguelike. Ideal for dipping into, it’ll scratch that itch on the commute while also fulfilling your needs when you want a longer session in the evening.

Too easy, but still highly engaging.

The micro-games do get pretty hectic as you progress but never to the point of feeling impossible.

Sable Maze: Forbidden Garden has a lot of strong points without any glaring flaws. The story is a little predictable, but you really won’t mind as you stumble through the richly detailed scenes solving puzzles with an inventory full of items. Plenty of fun and plenty of challenge, just don’t tell your mom how useful she would be if she were an ermine.

Charming and refreshing.

The only other thing with Food Processing is there should be more of it. It's not the most original title in the App Store, but it sure is well-made, and most importantly, fun.

I'm still sitting here bleary-eyed, blister on my finger, totally satisfied for having played this game way past the time I should be in bed.

Just be warned when you go in that Yankai’s Peak is the sort of peak that will happily throw you off its summit, and you’ll be better placed to enjoy everything that this slightly mind-bending literal shape-shifter has to offer.

Like the best shoot-em-ups, play here is about fine margins and non-stop action, and once the onslaught begins, it's especially hard to stop the beat running away with you.

Yet it's not hard to see plenty of people attempting to help Crimson cut a path of destruction all the way to the emperor, because the production values and action are really good hooks. Blood & Glory: Legend doesn't deviate much from a tried-and-true formula, but that's because it's one that works.

Rebuild started life as a flash game, and can still be played in browser. I will say, though, that they did a great job of translating the game to the touch screen, and it's a much better experience there. Rebuild isn't especially deep or long winded, but it's pretty engaging and will easily provide zombie fans with a taste for simulation a satisfying experience.

A pretty addictive puzzle/platformer title that contains some delightfully fast-paced gameplay and is honestly pretty addictive. The tilt controls leave a bit to be desired, and there are occasional issues with in-game objects getting in the way of the camera, but overall this is a great game.

I was amazed at how quickly I was sucked into the Shadow Era world.

It’s the perfect one-minute, pick-up-and-play game, except we’ve been playing it all day.

Overall, however, Pocket God vs Desert Ashes is a very decent Advance Wars mimic, and fans of the franchise will have a good time — especially since there are no quick wins via in-app purchases.

It doesn’t revolutionize it, and it’s not trying to. Regardless, Adventure Xpress is still plenty entertaining for fans of the genre.

Ultimately, there’s a lot in Hello Hero: Epic Battle that you’re likely to have seen before, and if you’re burned out on mobile RPGs you may fail to be won round by its charms. But if you’re only looking for a change from genre cliches like dragons and magic, you’ll appreciate the effort that Fincon has gone to to create a fresh, imaginative, and polished world.

Overall, we’re really quite taken with Warriors of Waterdeep. It’s not going to compete with the best of the SRPGs out there but if you were looking for a mobile RPG that offers very snappy gameplay without the usual autoplay, gacha, or IAPs that infest these types of games you really can’t go wrong.

It will appeal to anybody looking for a punky presentational style, a deeply silly story, casual gameplay, and lots of risque imagery and innuendo. If you’re not already a fan of gacha-RPGs on mobile, this won’t be the game that changes your mind. But it’s a solid addition to the genre.

Overall, we feel pretty positive towards Disney Mirrorverse. Despite the flaws inherent with the genre, this is bristling with high production value and varies up the gameplay nicely. It’s also, honestly, just a joy to see collect your favourite Disney heroes and watch them fight alongside each other.

With cool additional elements like Game Center achievements, leaderboards and the enticing Hall of Aliens, Alien Hive becomes one of the cooler puzzle games available on iOS.

I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Lifeline: Whiteout is an interactive story, but it’s not hugely interactive. Regardless, the storyline is genuinely appealing.

If you’re any kind of fan of the original SongPop, and / or if you’re just in the mood to bring your epic knowledge of cool music down on your friends’ heads, SongPop 2 is a worthwhile musical journey.

Traffix isn’t a hugely expansive experience – there’s no two player mode for example, and it’s perhaps a little too slight for some – but it’s a undeniably satisfying action puzzler that’s perfect for short bursts of play.

Chameleon Run has more depth than it has any right to offer, and you’ll soon be itching to nail all the objectives along the way.

If you’re a fan of the strategy offered by Clash Royale and on the hunt for something a little different, Spellbinders is an easy recommendation to make.

Despite sometimes being a little more frustrating than fun, Leap Day is still an incredibly well crafted platformer. You have to be willing to suffer through some BS at times, but the sense of accomplishment might just be worth it.

Having spent my time with a good number of HOG's, I can honestly say this is the one I could return to every once in a while and enjoy for quite some time. With the ability to load my own images, it guarantees I'll always have new content to explore and new things to find. An excellent choice for hidden object fans on the go.

A pretty repetitive game, and you get tired of flinging and smiting before very long. Don't be surprised if you return, though. Velocirapture isn't a very diverse distraction, but it still works well for bite-sized play sessions.

Practice is important, because the controls in Skee-Ball Arcade take a little getting used to. You can manipulate the direction of your shot by tiling your device to the side, but it takes a while to get the hang of, especially since there's no calibration option.

With an engaging story, great visuals, and a user-friendly mindset, Radiation Island is certainly a game that those intrigued by the genre – veterans or not – should check out.

This collection on iOS is already pretty solid at its foundation, and even at its worst, is still playable and enjoyable, if a bit distracting due to some sloppiness at times. It's definitely worth looking at, and with any luck, perhaps Capcom will "Wright" what few wrongs there are to be found here in short order.

If you’re looking for something a little different in the falling blocks category, or just want to see what comes after the brilliance that was Pair Solitaire, Domino Drop is an easy recommendation.

Cartoon Network and Grumpyface made a good call here, helping to put together a game and a design tool that go together like Fiona and Cake.

Pinball Arcade collects a few of the best known pinball tables of old and brings them back to life in a stunning manner.

Pinpoint aiming and strategic terrain manipulation can remedy disparages a bit, and you can always grind to earn up currency to buy more firepower. Overall, the game is well worth a download for fans of the Worms franchise, and serves as a simple introduction to the genre for those still yet uninitiated.

Song Pop is the perfect game for the music obsessed, but not to the point where it alienates those who don't fit that bill.

Not every title from the early 2000s has stood the test of time, but Max Payne Mobile's fantastic presentation and storytelling keep it a must-have for action junkies looking for a serious game on iOS. It might not look or control as well as it did over a decade ago, but much like the hundreds of mobsters and bullet wounds you'll encounter over your 10 to 15 hour adventure, it won't stop Max Payne from emerging successful.

I don't think there's anything in Soccer Superstars 2012 that will make a non-fan into a true believer, but as full-featured soccer sims you can carry in your pocket go, this is a really good one. Footie fans should definitely give it a kick, not a pass.

The Phantom PI: Mission Apparition is the first in what I hope is a series of sequels that adopt the same look and casual yet intelligent attitude toward adventure games.

Much in the same way as the lightweight strategy suits the platform, there just aren’t all that many engaging civ-lite games on mobile devices, making Legion strangely appealing in spite of its faults. It’s very much a game on the right platform at a lucky moment.

As a fun, charming, respectable little card game, however, it's equal to or greater than the money you can put into it.

Other people who are not quite so fond of horses might find that the game falls short in terms of deep gameplay. However, there isn't much out there in terms of horse games on the App Store, and My Horse is a beautifully detailed and welcomed addition that will more than appeal to its targeted horse loving demographic.

The fast-paced nature and communal moments between rounds just thrilled us in a way that the usually sedate Auto Chess gameplay doesn’t. We’d encourage everyone to give this a go – even if you really don’t like the genre. This is a fantastic jumping off point, at the very least, so you might just end up enjoying it anyway. We sure as heck did.

Whether you’re a shameless Foursaken fan like myself or have never heard of them, Adventure Company is worth a look. It’s accessible but not too simple, free-to-play but not overbearing with it, and it’s just an all-around good time.

So, while I’d love to see some more value added for the player who has maxed out everything, Deep Loot is a really fun dive up until that point. Upgrading items is satisfying, finding special treasures is exciting, and the quest to do both is a great driving factor for a long period of time.

Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers isn’t a perfect game, but it offers a good deal of solid content for its asking price.

It's dripping with retro goodness but doesn't bank on nostalgia to provide a compelling experience. An all around excellent game.

The verdict here is that if you’ve always been intrigued by Blood Bowl and never had the experience of having a Troll throw a Goblin and the ball together into the end zone, this is probably the best gateway into that world that’s ever existed. For hardcore fans, it’s only going to serve as an appetizer until the next main course comes along in a few months.

While the lack of Game Center multiplayer support is devastating, the core game and modes will last your average word nerd for hours on end. The Domination mode will always give you something to shoot for, while the Daily Challenge will give your brain a taxing workout.

In truth, that's perhaps what I enjoyed most about About Love, Hate, and the other things: the fact that - despite its flaws - it remains an artfully assembled, surprisingly emotive puzzler that aims for something better than "addictiveness." Rather, this is an experience designed to feel wonderful while it lasts.

Icycle: On Thin Ice is well worth a pop, with varied, exciting, clever gameplay the dish of the day. If the sound of dressing a naked guy up in just a monocle and riding him through icy backdrops on a penny farthing is your idea of a good time, you need to grab this - and let's be honest, who would turn that down?

Overall, Digit & Dash is a solid, challenging, reflex-based game that is sure to challenge players of all experience levels.

Race the Sun is a surprising little racing game that will sink its hook in you for quite some time.

Less a game about running a pet shop than it is about taking care of the monsters that dwell within. But that's just fine with us. There are few better mobile pet simulators out there, and there are even fewer that give you the pleasure of raising a slimy one-eyed octopus.

If you’re looking for a tense game that’s heavy on storytelling (and an absolute treat for you eyes), Lost Within is an easy recommendation — especially for gamers who like a good fright.

A great iPhone game with plenty to offer most mobile gamers. Despite a few setbacks in variety, the game still manages to be plenty of fun in short bursts, which is just about all I could ask of an iPhone game.

With a bunch of different unlockables (players and vanity items like jerseys) and different leagues of varying difficulties, not to mention tournaments, Dice Soccer really does offer a decent amount of content. Once you get past the goofy idea and put some time in, the game opens up and really presents a nice experience.

It’s a shame, really, because with a proper interface a board game should work as well if not better on a mobile device than on a PC. And if they’d taken more care over the port, then Space Hulk would have been one the finest board game adaptations to grace the iPad: tense, demanding, and frequently thrilling.

If you’re up for a challenge and like cute, bouncing cats, Nekosan is worth a download. The monetization system is fair and will allow for a lot of free play, as long as you’re willing to watch some ads or replay some levels. The one-tap mechanic and the portrait orientation will also make it appealing for commuters, though the resulting cursing in frustration might not be ideal for public transportation.

True Axis likely has another hit on its hands. True Skate makes you feel like you can really skate, and at least for this writer, that's quite the accomplishment.

So while Men vs. Machines is a really good game, I just feel the need to steer big fans of Gun Bros. away unless you want to start all over and re-level, or pay into a game that's exactly the same as the one you just walked away from.

Visually, Starfront is pretty stunning.

Plays remarkably like its predecessor, only scaled back. The gameplay is nearly identical, as are the bright and colorful visuals (though the characters look a bit jagged at times).

Everlove: Rose is a little cheesy (as might be expected from a romance novel), but it also involves intriguing characters and an addictive story. May your medieval love never suffer the same inevitable decay as the teeth in your jaw.

There are only sixteen levels available right now, with another eight coming soon, but they are each packed with plenty of things to do, see, and bounce on. Square Planet certainly isn't flat.

In fact, Words on Tour in its entirety is a fun game to come back to when you have a few minutes to kill. The game is challenging, though not unfairly so.

If you like your trivia funny, challenging, and a little risqué, there's simply no better choice on the App Store. Now let's just hope they can keep churning out new episodes as quickly as I can keep playing them.

The Sandbox Evolution is a step up from an already beloved game, and I can only imagine how it’s going to improve even more over time.

Overall, JellyCar 3 is a very fun iPhone game that just about anyone could enjoy. Although it is missing a few features that seem like no-brainers at this point in the series, JellyCar 3 manages to deliver more of what fans love about the franchise.

Tilt to Live 2: Redonkulous is just as much fun as its predecessor, and that’s all you need to know. If you’re looking for tilty, frantic, arcade fun – just like the first game – this is a must buy.

Gear.Club isn’t perfect then, but it is highly enjoyable. A further step towards a more sim like experience, its wealth of driving aids means it’ll appeal to all car fans. While there’s room for improvement, it’s great to find an adequate replacement to Real Racing 3. It might have taken a while to get there, but there’s plenty going on within Gear.Club to keep you hooked.

Annoying Orange Kitchen Carnage may be a bit of a cash-in while the YouTube show is still hot, it's at least a cash-in that gamers can have a lot of fun with.

As far as fast-paced, death-at-every-corner survival games go, The Blocks Cometh easily ranks up there with the best of the best. It's tough as nails, but if you're even tougher this is a challenge you'll absolutely want to face.

Even without its “HeadTwister” technology, Droidscape: Basilica is a unique experience that maintains momentum from its beginning to whenever the actual end comes.

Soctics League is the kind of game that's a blast to play a few times a day, especially when you have a friend or two playing as well.

Maybe staking out the middle ground between arcade simplicity and stats-based realism leaves out baseball fans on the fringes, but for a free mobile take on baseball, everyone in the middle is going to find something to like.

Despite potential frustration, however, SMILE Inc. is really pretty fun. It taps into that mobile gaming joy of simply diving into a game for a few minutes, yet still achieving something in that time. With a regular supply of missions and new characters to unlock, it’s sure to stick around on your phone for a while, too. Your high score may never be particularly huge, but you’ll still appreciate chipping away at it, and watching as the nastiness of office work really shines through.

But in the end, I found myself not really being too bothered by the excessive wait times or the accompanying difficulty spikes, as Tank Nation is just an incredibly fun game to play, and the amount of blood, sweat, and artillery shells that went into the making of this title can be felt around every bend in the destructible terrain.

As far as sequels go, Angry Birds Space straddles that fine line between familiarity and progress exceptionally well – but there's no question that it leans more in the direction of the former than the latter. If you're already a fan of the series (and who isn't?), picking up Rovio's latest release is a no brainer.

Tempting as it is to instantly dismiss Block Fortress: War as unfair, it grows on you the longer you plug at it.

Star Knight is a cool action-platformer that’s definitely worth a look.

Despite dishing out small helpings of frustration here and there, The Secret of Raven Rock is a good-looking adventure title with solid gameplay.

That moment of cynicism aside, and Best Fiends Forever is a lot of fun. It grabs a tired genre and spruces it up in a way that makes it feel fresh and nearly new. Don’t be surprised when you lose a ton of free time to it. It does a great job of making you feel like you’re achieving a lot quickly.

Big Action Mega Fight! is one of those games that's not going to appeal to a huge audience. Beat ‘em ups are hardly the center of the gaming world. However, players who love the classics owe it to themselves to try this out. The obvious arcade influence is a nice way to put a smile on your face and get the adrenaline pumping.

Spellwood doesn't break a whole lot of new ground, but instead refines Scrabble-style gameplay into a fresh and engaging single-player experience. It's a bit one-dimensional, but if you like word games or just want to tune up your vocabulary a bit without turning your brain numb with boredom, it's definitely worth a look.

Disney Illusion Island might not appeal to those who want non-stop hardcore platforming thrills, but there’s more than enough challenge here for those who look for it.

Cooped Up is simple, addictive, weird, and kind of creepy for all its bright colors and well-animated fowl.
